Kings III 21
1 And Achaab numbered the young men the heads of the districts, and they were two hundred and thirty: and afterwards he numbered the people, [even] every man fit for war, seven thousand.
Or il arriva après ces choses, que Naboth Jizréhélite, ayant une vigne à Jizréhel, près du palais d'Achab, Roi de Samarie;
2 And he went forth at noon, an the son of Ader was drinking [and] getting drunk in Socchoth, he and the kings, [even] thirty and two kings, his allies.
Achab parla à Naboth, et lui dit: Cède-moi ta vigne, afin que j'en fasse un jardin de verdure; car elle est proche de ma maison, et je t'en donnerai pour celle-là une meilleure; ou si cela t'accommode mieux, je t'en donnerai l'argent qu'elle vaut.
3 And the young men the heads of the districts went forth first; and they send and report to the king of Syria, saying, There are men come forth out of Samaria.
Mais Naboth répondit à Achab: A Dieu ne plaise que je te cède l'héritage de mes pères!
4 And he said to them, If they come forth peaceably, take them alive; and if they come forth to war, take them alive:
Et Achab vint en sa maison tout refrogné et indigné pour la parole que lui avait dite Naboth Jizréhélite, en disant: Je ne te céderai point l'héritage de mes pères; et il se coucha sur son lit, et tourna son visage, et ne mangea rien.
5 and let not the young men the heads of the districts go forth of the city. And the force that was behind them
Alors Izebel sa femme entra vers lui, et lui dit: D'où vient que ton esprit est si triste? et pourquoi ne manges-tu point?
6 struck each one the man next to him; and each one a second time struck the man next to him: and Syria fled, and Israel pursued them; and the son of Ader, [even] the king of Syria, escapes on the horse of a horseman.
Et il lui répondit: C'est parce qu'ayant parlé à Naboth Jizréhélite, et lui ayant dit: Donne-moi ta vigne pour de l'argent, ou si tu l'aimes mieux, je te donnerai une autre vigne pour celle-là, il m'a dit: Je ne te céderai point ma vigne.
7 And the king of Israel went forth, and took all the horses and the chariots, and struck [the enemy] with a great slaughter in Syria.
Alors Izebel sa femme lui dit: Serais-tu maintenant Roi sur Israël? Lève-toi, mange quelque chose, et que ton cœur se réjouisse; je te ferai avoir la vigne de Naboth Jizréhélite.
8 And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said, Strengthen yourself, and observe, and see what you shall do; for at the return of the year the son of Ader king of Syria comes up against you.
Et elle écrivit des Lettres au nom d'Achab, les scella du sceau du Roi, et elle envoya ces Lettres aux Anciens et Magistrats qui étaient dans la ville de Naboth, et qui y demeuraient avec lui.
9 And the servants of the king of Syria, even they said, The God of Israel [is] a God of mountains, and not a God of valleys; therefore has he prevailed against us: but if we should fight against them in the plain, verily we shall prevail against them.
Et elle écrivit dans ces Lettres ce qui s'ensuit: Publiez le jeûne, et faites tenir Naboth au haut bout du peuple.
10 And do you this thing: Send away the kings, each one to his place, and set princes in their stead.
Et faites tenir deux méchants hommes vis-à-vis de lui, et qu'ils témoignent contre lui, en disant: Tu as blasphémé contre Dieu, et [mal parlé] du Roi; puis vous le mènerez dehors, et vous le lapiderez, et qu'il meure.
11 And we will give you [another] army according to the army that was destroyed, and cavalry according to the cavalry, and chariots according to the chariots, and we will fight against them in the plain, and we shall prevail against them. And he listened to their voice, and did so.
Les gens donc de la ville de Naboth, [savoir] les Anciens et les Magistrats qui demeuraient dans sa ville, firent comme Izebel leur avait mandé, [et] selon qu'il était écrit dans les Lettres qu'elle leur avait envoyées.
12 And it came to pass at the return of the year, that the son of Ader reviewed Syria, and went up to Apheca to war against Israel.
Car ils publièrent le jeûne, et firent tenir Naboth au haut bout du peuple.
13 And the children of Israel were numbered, and came to meet them: and Israel encamped before them as two little flocks of goats, but Syria filled the land.
Et deux méchants hommes entrèrent, et se tinrent vis-à-vis de lui; et ces méchants hommes témoignèrent contre Naboth en la présence du peuple, en disant: Naboth a blasphémé contre Dieu, et il a [mal parlé] du Roi; puis ils le menèrent hors de la ville, et l'assommèrent de pierres, et il mourut.
14 And there came the man of God, and said to the king of Israel, Thus says the Lord, Because Syria has said, The Lord God of Israel [is] a God of the hills, and he [is] not a God of the valleys, therefore will I give this great army into your hand, and you shall know that I [am] the Lord.
Après cela ils envoyèrent vers Izebel, pour lui dire: Naboth a été lapidé, et il est mort.
15 And they encamp one over against the other before them seven days. And it came to pass on the seventh day that the battle drew on, and Israel struck Syria, [even] a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
Et il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Izebel eut entendu que Naboth avait été lapidé, et qu'il était mort, elle dit à Achab: Lève-toi, mets-toi en possession de la vigne de Naboth Jizréhélite, qui avait refusé de te la donner pour de l'argent; car Naboth n'est plus en vie, mais il est mort.
16 And the rest fled to Apheca, into the city; and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men that were left: and the son of Ader fled, and entered into an inner chamber, into a closet.
Ainsi dès qu'Achab eut entendu que Naboth était mort, il se leva pour descendre en la vigne de Naboth Jizréhélite, et pour s'en mettre en possession.
17 And he said to his servants, I know that the kings of Israel are merciful kings: let us now put sackcloth upon our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and let us go forth to the king of Israel, if by any means he will save our souls alive.
Alors la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Elie Tisbite, en disant:
18 So they girded sackcloth upon their loins, and put ropes upon their heads, and said to the king of Israel, Your servant the son of Ader says, Let our souls live, I pray you. And he said, Does he yet live? He is my brother.
Lève-toi, descends au devant d'Achab Roi d'Israël, lorsqu'il sera à Samarie; voilà il est dans la vigne de Naboth, où il est descendu pour s'en mettre en possession.
19 And the men divined, and offered drink-offerings; and they caught the word out of his mouth, and said, Your brother the son of Ader. And he said, Go you in and fetch him. And the son of Ader went out to him, and they cause him to go up to him into the chariot.
Et tu lui parleras, en disant: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: N'as-tu pas tué, et ne t'es-tu pas même mis en possession? Puis tu lui parleras ainsi, et diras: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: Comme les chiens ont léché le sang de Naboth, les chiens lécheront aussi ton propre sang.
20 And he said to him, The cities which my father took from your father I will restore to you; and you shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made streets in Samaria; and I will let you go with a covenant. And he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
Et Achab dit à Elie: M'as-tu trouvé toi, mon ennemi? Mais il lui répondit: Oui, je t'ai trouvé, parce que tu t'es vendu pour faire ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel.
21 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbour by the word of the Lord, Strike me, I pray, And the man would not strike him.
Voici je m'en vais amener du mal sur toi, et je t'exterminerai entièrement; et depuis l'homme jusqu'à un chien, je retrancherai ce qui appartient à Achab, tant ce qui est serré, que ce qui est délaissé en Israël.
22 And he said to him, Because you have not listened to the voice of the Lord, therefore, behold, as you depart from me, a lion shall strike you: and he departed from him, and a lion found him, and struck him.
Et je mettrai ta maison au même état que j'ai mis la maison de Jéroboam fils de Nébat, et la maison de Bahasa, fils d'Ahija à cause du péché par lequel tu m'as irrité, et as fait pécher Israël.
23 And he finds another man, and says, Strike me, I pray you. And the man struck him, and in striking wounded [him].
L'Eternel parla aussi contre Izebel, disant: Les chiens mangeront Izebel près du rempart de Jizréhel.
24 And the prophet went and stood before the king of Israel by the way, and bound his eyes with a bandage.
Celui qui appartient à Achab, [et] qui mourra dans la ville, les chiens le mangeront; et celui qui mourra aux champs, les oiseaux des cieux le mangeront.
25 And it came to pass as the king passed by, that he cried aloud to the king, and said, Your servant went out to war, and, behold, a man brought [another] man to me, and said to me, Keep his man; and if he should by any means escape, then your life shall go for his life, or you shall pay a talent of silver.
En effet il n'y en avait point eu de semblable à Achab, qui se fût vendu pour faire ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, selon que sa femme Izebel l'induisait.
26 And it came to pass, that your servant looked round this way and that way, and the man was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, Behold, you have also destroyed snares [set] for me.
De sorte qu'il se rendit fort abominable, allant après les dieux de fiente, selon tout ce qu'avaient fait les Amorrhéens que l'Eternel avait chassés de devant les enfants d'Israël.
27 And he hasted, and took away the bandage from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognised him, that he was one of the prophets.
Et il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Achab eut entendu ces paroles, il déchira ses vêtements, et mit un sac sur sa chair, et jeûna, et il se tenait couché, enveloppé d'un sac, et se traînait en marchant.
28 And he said to him, Thus says the Lord, Because you have suffered to escape out of your hand a man appointed to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.
Et la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Elie Tisbite, en disant:
29 And the king of Israel departed confounded and discouraged, and came to Samaria.
N'as-tu pas vu qu'Achab s'est humilié devant moi? [Or] parce qu'il s'est humilié devant moi, je n'amènerai point ce mal en son temps, ce sera aux jours de son fils que j'amènerai ce mal sur sa maison.
