1 Adam, Seth, Enos,
[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
2 and Cainan, Maleleel, Jared,
[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
3 Enoch, Mathusala, Lamech,
[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
4 Noe: the sons of Noe, Sem, Cham, Japheth.
[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
5 The sons of Japheth, Gamer, Magog, Madaim, Jovan, Helisa, Thobel, Mosoch, and Thiras.
The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
6 And the sons of Gamer, Aschanaz, and Riphath, and Thorgama.
The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
7 And the sons of Jovan, Helisa, and Tharsis, the Citians, and Rhodians.
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
8 And the sons of Cham, Chus, and Mesraim, Phud and Chanaan.
The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
9 And the sons of Chus, Saba, and Evila, and Sabatha, and Regma, and Sebethaca: and the sons of Regma, Saba, and Dadan.
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
10 And Chus begot Nebrod: he began to be a mighty hunter on the earth.
Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
17 The sons of Sem, Aelam, and Assur,
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
18 and Arphaxad, Sala,
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
25 Eber, Pheleg, Ragan,
Eber, Peleg, Reu,
26 Seruch, Nachor, Tharrha,
Serug, Nahor, Terah,
27 Abraam.
and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
28 And the sons of Abraam, Isaac, and Ismael.
Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
29 And these [are] their generations: the firstborn of Ismael, Nabaeoth, and Kedar, Nabdeel, Massam,
[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
30 Masma, Iduma, Masse, Chondan, Thaeman,
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
31 Jettur, Naphes, Kedma: these [are] the sons of Ismael.
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
32 And the sons of Chettura Abraam's concubine: —and she bore him Zembram, Jexan, Madiam, Madam, Sobac, Soe: and the sons of Jexan; Daedan, and Sabai;
[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
33 and the sons of Madiam; Gephar, and Opher, and Enoch, and Abida, and Eldada; all these [were] the sons of Chettura.
Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
34 And Abraam begot Isaac: and the sons of Isaac [were] Jacob, and Esau.
The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
35 The sons of Esau, Eliphaz, and Raguel, and Jeul, and Jeglom, and Core.
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
36 The sons of Eliphaz: Thaeman, and Omar, Sophar, and Gootham, and Kenez, and Thamna, and Amalec.
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
37 And the sons of Raguel, Naches, Zare, Some, and Moze.
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
38 The sons of Seir, Lotan, Sobal, Sebegon, Ana, Deson, Osar, and Disan.
[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
39 And the sons of Lotan, Chorri, and Aeman; and the sister of Lotan [was] Thamna.
Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
40 The sons of Sobal; Alon, Machanath, Taebel, Sophi, and Onan: and the sons of Sebegon; Aeth, and Sonan.
Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
41 The sons of Sonan, Daeson: and the sons of Daeson; Emeron, and Asebon, and Jethram, and Charran.
Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
42 And the sons of Hosar, Balaam, and Zucam, and Acan: the sons of Disan, Os, and Aran.
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
43 And these [are] their kings, Balac the son of Beor; and the name of his city [was] Dennaba.
[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
44 And Balac died, and Jobab the son of Zara of Bosorrha reigned in his stead.
When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
45 And Jobab died, and Asom of the land of the Thaemanites reigned in his stead.
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
46 And Asom died, and Adad the son of Barad reigned in his stead, who struck Madiam in the plain of Moab: and the name of his city [was] Gethaim.
When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
47 And Adad died, and Sebla of Masecca reigned in his stead.
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
48 And Sebla died, and Saul of Rhoboth by the river reigned in his stead.
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
49 And Saul died, and Balaennor son of Achobor reigned in his stead.
When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
50 And Balaennor died, and Adad son of Barad reigned in his stead; and the name of his city [was] Phogor.
When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
51 The princes of Edom: prince Thamna, prince Golada, prince Jether,
Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
52 prince Elibamas, prince Elas, prince Phinon,
Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
53 prince Kenez, prince Thaeman, prince Babsar, prince Magediel,
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
54 prince Zaphoin. These [are] the princes of Edom.
Magdiel, and Iram.
