< Chronicles I 14 >
1 And Chiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar timbers, and masons, and carpenters, to build a house for him.
And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers unto David, and timber of cedars, with masons and artificers, to build for him a house.
2 And David knew that the Lord [had] designed him to be king over Israel; because his kingdom was highly exalted, on account of his people Israel.
So David perceived, that Yahweh, had confirmed him, as king over Israel, —that his kingship was exalted, for the sake of his people Israel.
3 And David took more wives in Jerusalem: and there were born to David more sons and daughters.
And David took more wives, in Jerusalem, —and David begat more sons and daughters.
4 And these [are] the names of those that were born, who were [born] to him in Jerusalem; Samaa, Sobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
Now, these, are the names of them who were born, whom he had in Jerusalem, —Shammua and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon;
5 and Baar, and Elisa, and Eliphaleth,
and Ibhar and Elishua, and Elpelet;
6 and Nageth, and Naphath, and Japhie,
and Nogah and Nepheg, and Japhia;
7 and Elisamae, and Eliade, and Eliphala.
and Elishama and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8 And the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel: and all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard [it], and went out to meet them.
And, when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek to secure David, —and David, hearing, went out against them.
9 And the Philistines came and assembled together in the giants' valley.
Now, the Philistines, had come and spread themselves out, in the vale of Rephaim.
10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and will you deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to him, Go up, and I will deliver them into your hands.
Then David asked of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And Yahweh said to him, Go up, and I will deliver them into thy hand.
11 And he went up to Baal Pharasin, and David struck them there; and David said, God has broken through enemies by my hand like a breach of water: therefore he called the name of that place, the Breach of Pharasin.
So they came up in Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and David said, God hath broken forth against mine enemies by my hand, like the breaking forth of waters, —For this cause, called they the name of that place, Baal-perazim.
12 And the Philistines left their gods there; and David gave orders to burn them with fire.
And they left their gods there, —and David gave the word, and they were burned up in fire.
13 And the Philistines once more assembled themselves in the giants' valley.
And the Philistines yet again spread themselves out in the vale.
14 And David enquired of God again; and God said to him, You shall not go after them; turn away from them, and you shall come upon them near the pear trees.
So David, asked again, of God, and God said to him, Thou shalt not go up after them, —get thee round, away from them, so shalt thou come in upon them, over against the mulberry-trees;
15 And it shall be, when you shall hear the sound of their tumult in the tops of the pear trees, then you shall go into the battle: for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.
and it shall be, when thou hearest a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, then, shalt thou go forth into the battle, —for God will have gone forth before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
16 And he did as God commanded him: and he struck the army of the Philistines from Gabaon to Gazera.
So David did as God commanded him, —and they smote the host of the Philistines, from Gibeon even unto Gezer.
17 And the name of David was [famous] in all the land; and the Lord put the terror of him on all the nations.
And the name of David went forth, throughout all the lands, —and, Yahweh, put the dread of him upon all the nations.
