Chronicles I 11

1 And all Israel came to David in Chebron, saying, Behold, we [are] your bones and your flesh.

Tout Israël s’assembla donc près de David à Hébron, disant: Nous sommes votre os et votre chair.

2 And heretofore when Saul was king, you were he that led Israel in and out, and the Lord of Israel said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be for a ruler over Israel.

Hier même et avant-hier, lorsque Saül régnait encore, vous étiez celui qui menait Israël au combat et le ramenait; car c’est à vous que le Seigneur votre Dieu a dit: C’est toi qui seras le pasteur de mon peuple Israël, et c’est toi qui seras son prince.

3 And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Chebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Chebron before the Lord: and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

Tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent donc vers le roi à Hébron; et David fit avec eux alliance devant le Seigneur; et ils l’oignirent roi sur Israël, selon la parole que le Seigneur avait dite par l’entremise de Samuel.

4 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem, this [is] Jebus; and there the Jebusites the inhabitants of the land said to David,

Et David alla, et tout Israël, à Jérusalem, c’est-à-dire Jébus, où se trouvaient les Jébuséens, habitants du pays.

5 You shall not enter in hither. But he took the strong hold of Sion: this [is] the city of David.

Et ceux qui habitaient dans Jébus dirent à David: Vous n’entrerez pas ici. Mais David prit la citadelle de Sion, qui est la cité de David,

6 And David said, Whoever first smites the Jebusite, even he shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Saruia went up first, and became chief.

Et il dit: Quiconque frappera le premier un Jébuséen sera prince et chef de l’armée. Joab, fils de Sarvia, monta donc le premier, et il fut fait prince.

7 And David lived in the strong hold; therefore he called it the city of David.

Or David habita dans la citadelle, et c’est pourquoi elle fut appelée la cité de David.

8 And he fortified the city round about.

Et il bâtit la ville autour, depuis Mello jusqu’à l’enceinte; et Joab répara le reste de la ville.

9 And David continued to increase, and the Lord Almighty [was] with him.

Et David avançait, allant et croissant; et le Seigneur des armées était avec lui.

10 And these [are] the chiefs of the mighty men, whom David had, who strengthened [themselves] with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.

Voici les premiers des hommes braves de David qui l’ont aidé à se faire roi sur tout Israël, selon la parole que le Seigneur avait dite à Israël;

11 And this [is] the list of the mighty [men] of David; Jesebada, son of Achaman, first of the thirty: he drew his sword once against three hundred whom he killed at one time.

Et voici le nombre des hommes vigoureux de David: Jesbaam, fils d’Hachamoni, le premier entre les trente; c’est lui qui leva sa lance sur trois cents ennemis qu’il blessa en une seule fois.

12 And after him Eleazar son of Dodai, the Achochite: he was amongst the three mighty men.

Et après lui, Eléazar l’Ahohite, fils de son oncle, était entre les trois puissants.

13 He was with David in Phasodamin, and the Philistines were gathered there to battle, and [there was] a portion of the field full of barley; and the people fled before the Philistines.

C’est lui qui se trouva avec David à Phesdomim, quand les Philistins s’assemblèrent en ce lieu pour le combat: or la campagne de cette contrée était pleine d’orge, et le peuple s’était enfui devant les Philistins.

14 And he stood in the midst of the portion, and rescued it, and struck the Philistines; and the Lord wrought a great deliverance.

Mais eux s’arrêtèrent au milieu du champ, et le défendirent; et, lorsqu’ils eurent frappé les Philistins, Dieu donna une grande victoire à son peuple.

15 And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Odollam, and the camp of the Philistines [was] in the giants' valley.

Ainsi trois d’entre les trente princes vinrent au rocher sur lequel était David, à la caverne d’Odollam, quand les Philistins eurent campé dans la vallée de Raphaïm.

16 And David [was] then in the hold, and the garrison of the Philistines [was] then in Bethleem.

Or David était dans la forteresse, et une garnison de Philistins à Bethléhem.

17 And David longed, and said, Who will give me water to drink of the well of Bethleem, that is in the gate?

David donc forma un souhait et dit: Ô si quelqu’un me donnait de l’eau de la citerne de Béthléhem, qui est à la porte!

18 And the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water out of the well that was in Bethleem, which was in the gate, and they took it, and came to David: but David would not drink it, and poured it out to the Lord, and said,

Ainsi ces trois hommes passèrent par le milieu du camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l’eau à la citerne de Béthléhem, laquelle était à la porte, et l’apportèrent à David, afin qu’il bût; mais il ne voulut pas, et il l’offrit volontiers au Seigneur,

19 God forbid that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men with their lives? for with [the peril of] their lives they brought it. So he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty [men].

Disant: Loin de moi que je fasse cela en la présence de Dieu, et que je boive le sang de ces hommes! parce que c’est au péril de leurs âmes qu’ils ont apporté cette eau. Et, pour ce motif, il ne voulut point boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois hommes très vigoureux.

20 And Abisa the brother of Joab, he was chief of three: he drew his sword against three hundred slain at one time, and he had a name amongst the [second] three.

Abisaï aussi, frère de Joab, était lui-même le premier des trois: c’est lui qui leva sa lance contre trois cents ennemis qu’il blessa, et lui qui était le plus renommé entre les trois,

21 He was more famous than the two [others] of the three, and he was chief [over] them; yet he reached not to the [first] three.

Illustre entre ces trois seconds, et chef: cependant il n’atteignait pas les trois premiers.

22 And Banaia the son of Jodae was the son of a mighty man: many [were] his acts for Cabasael: he struck two lion-like men of Moab, and he went down and struck a lion in a pit on a snowy day.

Banaïas de Cabséel, fils de Joïada, était un homme très vigoureux, qui avait fait beaucoup d’exploits: c’est lui qui tua les deux Ariel de Moab: et lui qui descendit et tua le lion au milieu de la citerne au temps de la neige.

23 And he struck an Egyptian, a wonderful man five cubits [high]; and in the hand of the Egyptian [there was] a spear like a weavers' beam; and Banaia went down to him with a staff, and took the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and killed him with his own spear.

C’est lui aussi qui tua l’Egyptien dont la stature était de cinq coudées, et qui avait une lance comme une ensouple de tisserands; il descendit donc vers lui avec sa verge, et il lui arracha la lance qu’il tenait en sa main, et il le tua de sa lance.

24 These things did Banaia son of Jodae, and his name [was] amongst the three mighties.

Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada, qui était très renommé entre les trois guerriers vigoureux,

25 He was distinguished beyond the thirty, yet he reached not to the [first] three: and David set him over his family.

Et le premier entre les trente: cependant il n’atteignait pas les trois premiers. Or David le mit près de son oreille.

26 And the mighty [men] of the forces [were], Asael the brother of Joab, Eleanan the son of Dodoe of Bethleem,

Mais les hommes les plus vaillants dans l’armée étaient Asaël, frère de Joab, et Elchanan, fils de son oncle paternel de Béthléhem,

27 Samaoth the Arorite, Chelles the Phelonite,

Sammoth, l’Arorite, et Hellès, le Phalonite,

28 Ora the son of Ekkis the Thecoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,

Ira, le Thécuite, fils d’Accès; Abiézer d’Anathoth,

29 Sobochai the Usathite, Eli the Achonite,

Sobbochaï, l’Husathite, Haï, l’Ahohite,

30 Marai the Netophathite, Chthaod the son of Nooza the Netophathite,

Maharaï, le Nétophathite, Héled, fils de Baana, le Nétophathite,

31 Airi the son of Rebie of the hill of Benjamin, Banaias the Pharathonite,

Ethaï, fils de Ribaï, de Gabaath, des fils de Benjamin; Banaïa, le Pharatonite,

32 Uri of Nachali Gaas, Abiel the Garabaethite,

34 the son of Asam the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Sola the Ararite,

Ahiam, fils de Sachar, l’Ararite,

35 Achim the son of Achar the Ararite, Elphat the son of Thyrophar

Eliphal, fils d’Ur;

36 the Mechorathrite, Achia the Phellonite,

Hépher, le Méchérathite, Ahia, le Phélonite,

37 Esere the Charmadaite, Naarai the son of Azobai,

Hesro, du Carmel, Naaraï, fils d’Asbaï,

38 Joel the son of Nathan, Mebaal son of Agari,
