Psalms 89
1 [A Psalm] of instruction for Aetham the Israelite. I will sing of thy mercies, O Lord, for ever: I will declare thy truth with my mouth to all generations.

2 For thou hast said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy truth shall be established in the heavens.
Ja, jag säger: För evig tid skall nåd byggas upp; i himmelen, där befäster du din trofasthet.
3 I made a covenant with my chosen ones, I sware unto David my servant.
"Jag har slutit ett förbund med min utvalde, med ed har jag lovat min tjänare David:
4 I will establish thy seed for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. (Pause)
'Jag skall befästa din säd för evig tid och bygga din tron från släkte till släkte.'" (Sela)
5 The heavens shall declare thy wonders, O Lord; and thy truth in the assembly of the saints.
Av himlarna prisas dina under, o HERRE, och i de heligas församling din trofasthet.
6 For who in the heavens shall be compared to the Lord? and who shall be likened to the Lord among the sons of God?
Ty vilken i skyn kan liknas vid HERREN, vilken bland Guds söner kan aktas lik HERREN?
7 God is glorified in the council of the saints; great and terrible toward all that are round about him.
Ja, Gud är mycket förskräcklig i de heligas råd och fruktansvärd utöver alla som äro omkring honom.
8 O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.
HERRE, härskarornas Gud, vem är dig lik? Stark är HERREN; och din trofasthet är runt omkring dig.
9 Thou rulest the power of the sea; and thou calmest the tumult of its waves.
Du är den som råder över havets uppror; när dess böljor resa sig, stillar du dem.
10 Thou has brought down the proud as one that is slain; and with the arm of thy power thou has scattered thine enemies.
Du krossade Rahab, så att han låg lik en slagen; med din mäktiga arm förströdde du dina fiender.
11 The heavens are thine, and the earth is thine: thou hast founded the world, and the fullness of it.
Din är himmelen, din är ock jorden; du har grundat jordens krets med allt vad därpå är.
12 Thou hast created the north and the west: Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
Norr och söder, dem har du skapat; Tabor och Hermon jubla i ditt namn.
13 Thine is the mighty arm: let thy hand be strengthened, let thy right hand be exalted.
Du har en arm med hjältekraft, mäktig är din hand, hög är din högra hand.
14 Justice and judgment are the establishment of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
Rättfärdighet och rätt äro din trons fäste, nåd och sanning stå inför ditt ansikte.
15 Blessed is the people that knows the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
Saligt är det folk som vet vad jubel är, de som vandra, o HERRE, i ditt ansiktes ljus.
16 And in thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
I ditt namn fröjda de sig alltid, och genom din rättfärdighet upphöjas de.
17 For thou art the boast of their strength; and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted,
Ty du är deras starkhet och prydnad, och genom din nåd upphöjer du vårt horn.
18 for [our] help is of the Lord; and of the Holy One of Israel, our king.
Ty han som är vår sköld tillhör HERREN, vår konung tillhör Israels Helige.
19 Then thou spokest in vision to thy children, and saidst, I have laid help on a mighty one; I have exalted one chosen out of my people.
På den tiden talade du i en syn till dina fromma och sade: "Jag har lagt hjälp i en hjältes hans, jag har upphöjt en yngling ur folket.
20 I have found David my servant; I have anointed him by [my] holy mercy.
Jag har funnit min tjänare David och smort honom med min helig olja.
21 For my hand shall support him; and mine arm shall strengthen him.
Min hand skall stadigt vara med honom, och min arm skall styrka honom.
22 The enemy shall have no advantage against him; and the son of transgression shall not hurt him again.
Ingen fiende skall oförtänkt komma över honom, och ingen orättfärdig skall förtrycka honom;
23 And I will hew down his foes before him, and put to flight those that hate him.
nej, jag skall krossa hans ovänner framför honom, och jag skall hemsöka dem som hata honom.
24 But my truth and my mercy shall be with him; and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
Min trofasthet och min nåd skola vara med honom, och i mitt namn skall hans horn varda upphöjt.
25 And I will set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
Jag skall lägga havet under hans hand och strömmarna under hans högra hand.
26 He shall call upon me, [saying], Thou art my Father, my God, and the helper of my salvation.
Han skall kalla mig så: 'Du min fader, min Gud och min frälsnings klippa.'
27 And I will make him [my] first-born, higher than the kings of the earth.
Ja, jag skall göra honom till den förstfödde, till den högste bland konungarna på jorden.
28 I will keep my mercy for him for ever, and my covenant [shall be] firm with him.
Jag skall bevara min nåd åt honom evinnerligen, och mitt förbund med honom skall förbliva fast.
29 And I will establish his seed for ever and ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
Jag skall låta hans säd bestå till evig tid, och hans tron, så länge himmelen varar.
30 If his children should forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
Om hans barn övergiva min lag och icke vandra efter mina rätter,
31 if they should profane my ordinances, and not keep my commandments;
om de bryta mot mina stadgar och icke hålla mina bud,
32 I will visit their transgressions with a rod, and their sins with scourges.
då skall jag väl hemsöka deras överträdelse med ris och deras missgärning med plågor,
33 But my mercy I will not utterly remove from him, nor wrong my truth.
men min nåd skall jag ej taga ifrån honom, och jag skall icke svika i trofasthet.
34 Neither will I by any means profane my covenant; and I will not make void the things that proceed out of my lips.
Jag skall icke bryta mitt förbund, och vad mina läppar hava talat skall jag ej förändra.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie to David.
En gång har jag svurit det vid min helighet, och mitt löfte till David skall jag icke bryta.
36 His see shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me;
Hans säd skall förbliva evinnerligen och hans tron inför mig så länge som solen;
37 and as the moon [that is] established for ever, and as the faithful witness in heaven. (Pause)
såsom månen skall den bestå evinnerligen. Och trofast är vittnet i skyn." (Sela)
38 But thou hast cast off and set at nought, thou has rejected thine anointed.
Men nu har du förkastat och förskjutit din smorde och handlat i vrede mot honom.
39 Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant; thou has profaned his sanctuary, [casting it] to the ground.
Du har upplöst förbundet med din tjänare, du har oskärat hans krona och kastat den ned till jorden.
40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast made his strong holds a terror.
Du har brutit ned alla hans murar, du har gjort hans fästen till spillror.
41 All that go by the way have spoiled him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.
Alla som gå vägen fram plundra honom, han har blivit till smälek för sina grannar.
42 Thou hast exalted the right hand of his enemies; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Du har upphöjt hans ovänners högra hand och berett alla hans fiender glädje.
43 Thou hast turned back the help of his sword, and hast not helped him in the battle.
Ja, du har låtit hans svärdsegg vika tillbaka och icke hållit honom uppe i striden.
44 Thou hast deprived him of glory: thou hast broken down his throne to the ground.
Du har gjort slut på hans glans och slagit hans tron till jorden.
45 Thou hast shortened the days of his throne: thou hast poured shame upon him. (Pause)
Du har förkortat hans ungdoms dagar, du har höljt honom med skam. (Sela)
46 How long, O Lord, wilt thou turn away, for ever? shall thine anger flame out as fire?
Huru länge, o HERRE, skall du så alldeles fördölja dig? Huru länge skall din vrede brinna såsom eld?
47 Remember what my being is: for hast thou created all the sons of men in vain?
Tänk på huru kort mitt liv varar, och huru förgängliga du har skapat alla människors barn.
48 What man is there who shall live, and not see death? shall [any one] deliver his soul from the hand of Hades? (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
Ty vilken är den man som får leva och undgår att se döden? Vem räddar din själ från dödsrikets våld? (Sela) (Sheol h7585)
49 Where are thine ancient mercies, O Lord, which thou swarest to David in thy truth?
Herre, var äro din forna nådegärningar, vad du lovade David med ed i din trofasthet.
50 Remember, O Lord, the reproach of thy servants, which I have borne in my bosom, [even the reproach] of many nations;
Tänk, Herre, på dina tjänares smälek, på vad jag måste fördraga av alla de många folken;
51 wherewith thine enemies have reviled, O Lord: wherewith they have reviled the recompense of thine anointed.
tänk på huru dina fiender smäda, o HERRE, huru de smäda din smordes fotspår. ----
52 Blessed be the Lord for ever. So be it, so be it.
