Psalms 52

1 For the end, [a Psalm] of instruction by David, when Doec the Idumean came and told Saul, and said to him, David is gone to the house of Abimelech. Why dost thou, O mighty man, boast of iniquity in [thy] mischief? All the day

Auf den Siegesspender, ein Lehrgedicht von David, als der Edomiter Doeg kam und dem Saul meldete und sprach: "David ist in Achimeleks Haus gekommen." Was rühmst du dich der Bosheit, du Gewaltmensch, als wär sie eine Gottesgnade immerdar?

2 thy tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor thou hast wrought deceit.

Du schätzest Frevel hoch, und deine Zunge gleicht einem scharfen Messer, das mit Trug arbeitet.

3 Thou hast loved wickedness more than goodness; unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. (Pause)

Du liebst das Böse mehr als Gutes und redest lieber Unwahrheit als Wahrheit. (Sela)

4 Thou has loved all words of destruction, [and] a deceitful tongue.

Du liebst die glatten Reden all und falsche Zungen.

5 Therefore may God destroy thee for ever, may he pluck thee up and utterly remove thee from [thy] dwelling, and thy root from the land of the living. (Pause)

Auch dich wirft Gott für immer nieder; er packt dich, reißt dich aus dem Zelt, entwurzelt dich aus der Lebendigen Land. (Sela)

6 And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say,

Das sehen die Gerechten voller Furcht, und sie verlachen ihn:

7 Behold the man who made not God his help; but trusted in the abundance of his wealth, and strengthened himself in his vanity.

"Da seht den Mann! Er hält nicht Gott für seine Stütze, vertraut auf seines Reichtums Fülleund pocht auf seine Bosheit."

8 But I am as a fruitful olive in the house of God: I have trusted in the mercy of God for ever, even for evermore.

Dem grünen Ölbaum in dem Gotteshause gleich, hab ich mich stets auf Gottes Huld verlassen.

9 I will give thanks to thee for ever, for thou hast done [it]: and I will wait on thy name; for [it is] good before the saints.

Ich danke Dir auf ewig, wenn Du's tust. Vor Deinen Frommen künd ich, daß so gut Dein Name ist.
