Psalms 104
1 [A Psalm] of David. Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou hast clothed thyself with praise and honour:
Psaume de David. O mon âme, bénis le Seigneur; Seigneur, ô mon Dieu, tu es très grand, tu es revêtu de gloire et de beauté.
2 who dost robe thyself with light as with a garment; spreading out the heaven as a curtain.
Tu es enveloppé de lumière comme d'un manteau; tu as tendu le ciel comme un tabernacle.
3 Who covers his chambers with waters; who makes the clouds his chariot; who walks on the wings of the wind.
Il a fait des eaux le toit de ses plus hautes demeures; il a posé les nuées pour être son char; il marche sur les ailes des vents.
4 Who makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a flaming fire.
Des esprits il fait ses anges, et ses serviteurs sont un feu ardent.
5 Who establishes the earth on her sure foundation: it shall not be moved for ever.
Il fonde la terre sur son axe; elle ne déviera pas dans les siècles des siècles.
6 The deep, as it were a garment, is his covering: the waters shall stand on the hills.
L'abîme, comme un vêtement, est son manteau, et les eaux s'arrêteront au- dessus des montagnes.
7 At thy rebuke they shall flee; at the voice of thy thunder they shall be alarmed.
Elles s'enfuiront, Seigneur, à tes reproches; elles auront peur, à la voix de ton tonnerre.
8 They go up to the mountains, and down to the plains, to the place which thou hast founded for them.
Les montagnes sont montées et les plaines sont descendues au lieu que tu leur avais marqué.
9 Thou hast set a bound which they shall not pass, neither shall they turn again to cover the earth.
Tu as posé des limites que les eaux ne passeront pas; elles ne reviendront plus couvrir la terre.
10 He sends forth his fountains among the valleys: the waters shall run between the mountains.
Le Seigneur a fait jaillir des sources dans les vallées; les eaux couleront entre les montagnes.
11 They shall give drink to all the wild beasts of the field: the wild asses shall take [of them] to [quench] their thirst.
Elles abreuveront toutes les bêtes fauves des champs; les onagres les chercheront pour apaiser leur soif.
12 By them shall the birds of the sky lodge: they shall utter a voice out of the midst of the rocks.
Au-dessus d'elles, les oiseaux du ciel feront leur nid; ils feront entendre leur chant du milieu des rochers.
13 He waters the mountains from his chambers: the earth shall be satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
Des lieux supérieurs, Dieu arrose les monts; la terre se rassasiera, Seigneur, du fruit de tes œuvres.
14 He makes grass to grow for the cattle, and green herb for the service of men, to bring bread out of the earth;
Tu fais pousser l'herbe pour le bétail, et le fourrage pour le service des hommes, afin qu'ils en fassent sortir le blé de la terre.
15 and wine makes glad the heart of man, to make his face cheerful with oil: and bread strengthens man's heart.
Et le vin réjouit le cœur de l'homme; l'huile égaie son visage; le pain fortifie son cœur.
16 The trees of the plain shall be full [of sap]; [even] the cedars of Libanus which he has planted.
Les arbres des champs seront nourris de ces pluies, ainsi que les cèdres du Liban, qu'il a plantés.
17 There the sparrows will build their nests; and the house of the heron takes the lead among them.
C'est là que les passereaux feront leur nid, et la famille du héron, qui les surpasse de la tête.
18 The high mountains are a refuge for the stags, [and] the rock for the rabbits.
Les hauteurs des monts seront la demeure des cerfs, et les rochers l'asile du hérisson.
19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knows his going down.
Dieu a créé la lune pour marquer le temps; le soleil sait où il doit se coucher.
20 Thou didst make darkness, and it was night; in it all the wild beasts of the forest will be abroad:
Tu as fait les ténèbres, et la nuit est venue; c'est l'heure où toutes les bêtes fauves traversent la forêt.
21 [even] young lions roaring for prey, and to seek meat for themselves from God.
Les lionceaux rugissent après leur proie, et cherchent les aliments que Dieu leur a donnés.
22 The sun arises, and they shall be gathered together, and shall lie down in their dens.
Mais le soleil se lève; et ils se réunissent, et ils vont dormir dans leur antre.
23 Man shall go forth to his work, and to his labour till evening.
Et l'homme s'en va à son travail, et il travaille jusqu'au soir.
24 How great are thy works, O Lord! in wisdom hast thou wrought them all: the earth is filled with thy creation.
Que tes œuvres sont grandes, Seigneur; tu as fait toutes choses avec sagesse; la terre est pleine de tes créatures.
25 [So is] this great and wide sea: there are things creeping innumerable, small animals and great.
La mer est profonde et spacieuse; des reptiles sans nombre y nagent, les petits avec les grands.
26 There go the ships; [and] this dragon whom thou hast made to play in it.
Des navires la sillonnent; et le dragon formé par vous, vient s'y jouer.
27 All wait upon thee, to give them [their] food in due season.
Tous espèrent en toi, pour que tu leur donne la nourriture au temps opportun.
28 When thou hast given [it] them, they will gather [it]; and when thou hast opened thine hand, they shall all be filled with good.
Tu la leur donne, et ils la recueillent; tu ouvre la main, et ils sont tous remplis des dons de ta bonté.
29 But when thou hast turned away thy face, they shall be troubled: thou wilt take away their breath, and they shall fail, and return to their dust.
Détournes-tu le visage, ils sont troublés; si tu leur ôtes le souffle, ils défailliront et retourneront à leur poussière.
30 Thou shalt send forth thy Spirit, and they shall be created; and thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Et si tu envoies ton Esprit, ils seront créés, et tu renouvelleras la face de la terre.
31 Let the glory of the Lord be for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works;
Que la gloire du Seigneur soit éternelle; le Seigneur se complaira dans ses œuvres.
32 who looks upon the earth, and makes it tremble; who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
Il regarde la terre, et la fait trembler; il touche les monts, et ils fument.
33 I will sing to the Lord while I live; I will sing praise to my God while I exist.
Je chanterai le Seigneur toute ma vie; je chanterai mes psaumes à Dieu, tant que j'existerai.
34 Let my meditation be sweet to him: and I will rejoice in the Lord.
Puisse ma voix lui être douce, et moi je me réjouirai dans le Seigneur.
35 Let the sinners fail from off the earth, and transgressors, so that they shall be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Puissent les pécheurs et les méchants défaillir sur la terre, et qu'ils ne soient plus! mon âme, bénis le Seigneur!
