< Proverbs 3 >
1 [My] son, forget not my laws; but let thine heart keep my words:
Ọmọ mi, má ṣe gbàgbé ẹ̀kọ́ mi. Ṣùgbọ́n pa òfin mi mọ́ sí ọkàn rẹ.
2 for length of existence, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
Nítorí ọjọ́ gígùn, ẹ̀mí gígùn, àti àlàáfíà, ni wọn yóò fi kùn un fún ọ.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; but bind them about thy neck:
Má ṣe jẹ́ kí ìfẹ́ àti òtítọ́ ṣíṣe fi ọ́ sílẹ̀ láéláé so wọ́n mọ́ ọrùn rẹ, kọ wọ́n sí wàláà àyà rẹ.
4 so shalt thou find favour: and do thou provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.
Nígbà náà ni ìwọ yóò rí ojúrere àti orúkọ rere ní ojú Ọlọ́run àti lójú ènìyàn.
5 Trust in God with all thine heart; and be not exalted in thine own wisdom.
Gbẹ́kẹ̀lé Olúwa pẹ̀lú gbogbo ọkàn rẹ má ṣe sinmi lé òye ara à rẹ.
6 In all thy ways acquaint thyself with her, that she may rightly direct thy paths.
Mọ̀ ọ́n ní gbogbo ọ̀nà rẹ òun yóò sì máa tọ́ ipa ọ̀nà rẹ.
7 Be not wise in thine own conceit; but fear God, and depart from all evil.
Má ṣe jẹ́ ọlọ́gbọ́n lójú ara à rẹ bẹ̀rù Olúwa kí o sì kórìíra ibi.
8 Then shall there be health to thy body, and good keeping to thy bones.
Èyí yóò mú ìlera fún ara rẹ àti okun fún àwọn egungun rẹ.
9 Honour the Lord with thy just labours, and give him the first of thy fruits of righteousness:
Fi ọrọ̀ rẹ bọ̀wọ̀ fún Olúwa, pẹ̀lú àkọ́so oko rẹ,
10 that thy storehouses may be completely filled with corn, and that thy presses may burst forth with wine.
nígbà náà ni àká rẹ yóò kún àkúnya àgbá rẹ yóò kún àkúnwọ́sílẹ̀ fún wáìnì tuntun.
11 [My] son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Ọmọ mi, má ṣe kẹ́gàn ìbáwí Olúwa má sì ṣe bínú nígbà tí ó bá ń bá ọ wí,
12 for whom the Lord loves, he rebukes, and scourges every son whom he receives.
nítorí Olúwa a máa bá àwọn tí ó fẹ́ràn wí bí baba ti í bá ọmọ tí ó bá nínú dídùn sí wí.
13 Blessed is the man who has found wisdom, and the mortal who knows prudence.
Ìbùkún ni fún ẹni tí ó ní ìmọ̀, ẹni tí ó tún ní òye sí i,
14 For it is better to traffic for her, than for treasures of gold and silver.
nítorí ó ṣe èrè ju fàdákà lọ ó sì ní èrè lórí ju wúrà lọ.
15 And she is more valuable than precious stones: no evil thing shall resist her: she is well known to all that approach her, and no precious thing is equal to her in value.
Ó ṣe iyebíye ju iyùn lọ; kò sí ohunkóhun tí a lè fiwé e nínú ohun gbogbo tí ìwọ fẹ́.
16 For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left hand are wealth and glory: out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.
Ẹ̀mí gígùn ń bẹ ní ọwọ́ ọ̀tún rẹ̀; ní ọwọ́ òsì rẹ sì ni ọrọ̀ àti ọlá.
17 Her ways are good ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
Àwọn ọ̀nà rẹ jẹ́ ọ̀nà ìtura, òpópónà rẹ sì jẹ́ ti àlàáfíà.
18 She is a tree of life to all that lay hold upon her; and she is [a] secure [help] to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.
Igi ìyè ni ó jẹ́ fún gbogbo ẹni tí ó bá gbà á; àwọn tí ó bá sì dìímú yóò rí ìbùkún gbà.
19 God by wisdom founded the earth, and by prudence he prepared the heavens.
Nípa ọgbọ́n, Olúwa fi ìpìlẹ̀ ilẹ̀ ayé sọlẹ̀; nípa òye, ó fi àwọn ọ̀run sí ipò wọn;
20 By understanding were the depths broken up, and the clouds dropped water.
nípa ìmọ̀ rẹ̀ ó pín ibú omi ní yà, àwọsánmọ̀ sì ń sẹ ìrì.
21 [My] son, let [them] not pass from [thee], but keep my counsel and understanding:
Ọmọ mi, pa ọgbọ́n tí ó yè kooro àti ìmòye mọ́, má jẹ́ kí wọn lọ kúrò ní ibi tí ojú rẹ ti le tó wọn.
22 that thy soul may live, and that there may be grace round thy neck; and it shall be health to thy flesh, and safety to thy bones:
Wọn yóò jẹ́ ìyè fún ọ, àti ẹ̀ṣọ́ fún ọrùn rẹ.
23 that thou mayest go confidently in peace in all thy ways, and that thy foot may not stumble.
Nígbà náà ni ìwọ yóò bá ọ̀nà rẹ lọ ní àìléwu, ìwọ kì yóò sì kọsẹ̀.
24 For if thou rest, thou shalt be undismayed; and if thou sleep, thou shalt slumber sweetly.
Nígbà tí ìwọ bá dùbúlẹ̀, ìwọ kì yóò bẹ̀rù, nígbà tí ìwọ bá dùbúlẹ̀, oorun rẹ yóò jẹ́ oorun ayọ̀.
25 And thou shalt not be afraid of alarm coming upon thee, neither of approaching attacks of ungodly men.
Má ṣe bẹ̀rù ìdààmú òjijì, tàbí ti ìparun tí ó ń dé bá àwọn ènìyàn búburú.
26 For the Lord shall be over all thy ways, and shall establish thy foot that thou be not moved.
Nítorí Olúwa yóò jẹ́ ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé rẹ, kì yóò sì jẹ́ kí ẹsẹ̀ rẹ bọ́ sínú pàkúté.
27 Forbear not to do good to the poor, whensoever thy hand may have [power] to help [him].
Má ṣe fa ọwọ́ ìre sẹ́yìn kúrò lọ́dọ̀ àwọn tí ṣe tìrẹ, nígbà tí ó bá wà ní ìkápá rẹ láti ṣe ohun kan.
28 Say not, Come back another time, to-morrow I will give; while thou art able to do [him] good: for thou knowest not what the next day will bring forth.
Má ṣe wí fún aládùúgbò rẹ pé, “Padà wá nígbà tó ṣe díẹ̀; èmi yóò fi fún ọ ní ọ̀la,” nígbà tí o ní i pẹ̀lú rẹ nísinsin yìí.
29 Devise not evil against thy friend, living near thee and trusting in thee.
Má ṣe pète ohun búburú fún aládùúgbò rẹ, ti o gbé nítòsí rẹ, tí ó sì fọkàn tán ọ.
30 Be not ready to quarrel with a man without a cause, lest he do thee some harm.
Má ṣe fẹ̀sùn kan ènìyàn láìnídìí, nígbà tí kò ṣe ọ́ ní ibi kankan rárá.
31 Procure not the reproaches of bad men, neither do thou covet their ways.
Má ṣe ṣe ìlara ènìyàn jàgídíjàgan tàbí kí o yàn láti rìn ní ọ̀nà rẹ̀.
32 For every transgressor is unclean before the Lord; neither does he sit among the righteous.
Nítorí Olúwa kórìíra ènìyàn aláyídáyidà ṣùgbọ́n a máa fọkàn tán ẹni dídúró ṣinṣin.
33 The curse of God is in the houses of the ungodly; but the habitations of the just are blessed.
Ègún Olúwa ń bẹ lórí ilé ènìyàn búburú, ṣùgbọ́n ó bùkún fún ilé olódodo.
34 The Lord resists the proud; but he gives grace to the humble.
Ó fi àwọn ẹlẹ́yà ṣe yẹ̀yẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n ó fi oore-ọ̀fẹ́ fún onírẹ̀lẹ̀.
35 The wise shall inherit glory; but the ungodly have exalted [their own] dishonour.
Ọlọ́gbọ́n jogún iyì, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn aṣiwèrè ni yóò ru ìtìjú wọn.
