Proverbs 24
1 [My] son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.
Non portare invidia agli uomini malvagi, E non desiderare di esser con loro.
2 For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.
Perciocchè il cuor loro macchina rapina, E le lor labbra parlano d'iniquità.
3 A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.
La casa sarà edificata per sapienza, E sarà stabilita per prudenza.
4 By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.
E per conoscimento le camere saranno ripiene Di beni preziosi e dilettevoli, d'ogni maniera.
5 A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.
L'uomo savio [è] forte; E l'uomo intendente è possente di forza.
6 War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.
Perciocchè con prudenti consigli tu farai la guerra; E la salute [è posta] in moltitudine di consiglieri.
7 Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,
Le sapienze [son] troppo alte per lo stolto; Egli non aprirà la bocca nella porta.
8 but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed [men].
Chi divisa far male Sarà chiamato uomo malizioso.
9 The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness [attaches] to a pestilent man.
Il pensiero di stoltizia [è] peccato; E lo schernitore [è] l'abbominio degli uomini.
10 He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.
[Se] tu ti rallenti nel giorno della distretta, Le tue forze [saranno] corte.
11 Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not [thy help].
Se tu ti rattieni dal riscuoter quelli che son tratti alla morte, E quelli che stanno in forse di essere uccisi,
12 But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.
Dicendo: Ecco noi non ne sappiamo nulla; Colui che pesa i cuori non [vi] porrà egli mente? E il guardiano dell'anima tua [non] lo conoscerà egli, E non renderà egli a ciascuno secondo le sue opere?
13 [My] son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that thy throat may be sweetened.
Figliuol mio, mangia pure del miele; Perciocchè [egli è] buono; E del favo [del miele, che è] dolce al tuo palato;
14 Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul: for if thou find it, thine end shall be good, and hope shall not fail thee.
Tal [sarà] la conoscenza della sapienza all'anima tua, Quando tu l'avrai trovata; e vi sarà premio, E la tua speranza non sarà troncata.
15 Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.
O empio, non insidiar l'abitacolo del giusto, Non guastare il suo ricetto.
16 For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise [again]: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.
Perciocchè il giusto cade sette volte, e si rileva; Ma gli empi ruinano nel male.
17 If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.
Non rallegrarti, quando il tuo nemico sarà caduto; E quando egli sarà ruinato, il cuor tuo non [ne] gioisca;
18 For the Lord will see [it], and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.
Che talora il Signore nol vegga, e che [ciò] non gli dispiaccia, E ch'egli non istorni l'ira sua d'addosso a lui.
19 Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.
Non adirarti per li maligni; Non portare invidia agli empi.
20 For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.
Perciocchè non vi sarà premio alcuno per lo malvagio; La lampana degli empi sarà spenta.
21 [My] son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.
Figliuol mio, temi il Signore e il re; Non rimescolarti co' rapportatori.
22 For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance [inflicted] by both?
Perciocchè in un momento sorgerà la loro calamità; E chi conosce la ruina [procedente] d'amendue loro?
23 And this thing I say to you that are wise [for you] to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
Queste cose ancora [son] per li Savi. Ei non [è] bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.
24 He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations.
I popoli malediranno, [e] le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all'empio: Tu [sei] giusto.
25 But they that reprove [him] shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;
Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.
26 and [men] will kiss lips that answer well.
Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra.
27 Prepare thy works for [thy] going forth, and prepare thyself for the field; and come after me, and thou shalt rebuild thine house.
Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne' tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa.
28 Be not a false witness against thy [fellow] citizen, neither exaggerate with thy lips.
Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?
29 Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.
Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l'opera sua.
30 A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.
Io passai [già] presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell'uomo scemo di senno;
31 If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.
Ed ecco, [amendue] erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.
32 Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.
Ed io, riguardando [ciò, vi] posi mente; Veduto[lo, ne] presi ammaestramento.
33 [The sluggard says, ]I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across [my] breast.
Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;
34 But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier.
La tua povertà verrà [come] un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere.
