< Proverbs 24 >

1 [My] son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.
Tamikayonnaw hah nôe awh hanh, ahnimouh koehai kambawng hanh.
2 For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, rawk nahane dueng a pouk awh teh, runae kâhmo nahan dueng doeh a dei awh.
3 A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.
Lungangnae hoi im sak lah ao teh, thaipanueknae lahoi caksak lah ao.
4 By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.
Thoumthainae lahoi rakhannaw teh aphukaawm niteh ngai kaawm e hnonaw hoi a kawisak.
5 A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.
Tamilungkaang e teh a tha ao, panuenae ka tawn e ni a tha ao sak.
6 War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, lungkaangnaw hoi kâpankhai e lahoi na taran na tâ vaiteh kâpankhaikung a papnae koe hloutnae ao.
7 Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,
Lungangnae heh tamipathu hanelah teh a rasang poung dawkvah, kho longkha koe dei hane panuek hoeh.
8 but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed [men].
Thoenae sak hanelah kâcai e tami teh, thoenae khokhankung telah kaw lah ao han.
9 The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness [attaches] to a pestilent man.
Tamipathunaw e pouknae teh yonnae doeh, ayâ ka dudam e teh ayâ hanelah panuet a tho.
10 He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.
Runae na kâhmo navah na lungpout pawiteh, na tha a youn han.
11 Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not [thy help].
Due hanelah a hrawi awh e hah rungngang awh nateh, thei hanelah a hrawi awh e hah ratang awh haw.
12 But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.
Thai haw, hetteh ka panuek hoeh, na tet pawiteh, na lungthin yawcu dawk kakhingkung ni pouk mahoeh namaw. Na hringnae kountoukkung ni panuek mahoeh na maw. Tamipueng a tawk awh e patetlah patho mahoeh namaw.
13 [My] son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that thy throat may be sweetened.
Ka capa khoitui hah cat haw, bangkongtetpawiteh ahawi, ka radip e khoipha hah cat haw.
14 Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul: for if thou find it, thine end shall be good, and hope shall not fail thee.
Hot patetlah, panuenae hoi lungangnae hai na hringnae hanlah tho van seh. Hot hah na hmawt pawiteh ngaihawi hane ao teh na ngaihawinae teh ayawmyin lah awm mahoeh.
15 Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.
Oe tamikathout, tamikalan onae im hah pawm hanh, a kâhatnae hmuen hai raphoe hanh.
16 For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise [again]: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, tamikalan teh vaisari touh ka rawm nakunghai bout a thaw hah, hatei tamikathout teh rawknae koe a rawp han.
17 If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.
Na taran a rawp navah na konawm hanh, a kamthui navah na lunghawi hanh naseh.
18 For the Lord will see [it], and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.
Hatnavah, BAWIPA ni hmawt vaiteh, a lunghawi hoeh langvaih, hahoi ahni koe a lungkhueknae hai a roum sak thai.
19 Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.
Thoenae kasaknaw kecu dawk na lungpuen hanh, tamikathoutnaw hai ut hanh.
20 For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, tamikathoutnaw hanelah ngaihawinae awm hoeh, tamikathoutnaw e hmaiim teh padue pouh lah ao han.
21 [My] son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.
Ka capa, BAWIPA hoi siangpahrang teh taket haw, kaletkalang kaawm e hah kamyawngkhai hanh.
22 For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance [inflicted] by both?
Bangkongtetpawiteh, vaitahoi rawknae a pha han, ahnimouh roi e rawknae teh apinimaw a panue thai.
23 And this thing I say to you that are wise [for you] to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
Het hai tamilungkaangnaw e doeh, lawkceng nah tami kapek e teh hawi hoeh.
24 He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations.
Tamikathout koe, nang teh na lan, ka tet e teh, tamipueng ni thoebo vaiteh miphun pueng ni a panuet han.
25 But they that reprove [him] shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;
Hatei, tamikathout ka yue e teh kabawpnae a tawn han, a lathueng yawhawinae kahawi a pha han.
26 and [men] will kiss lips that answer well.
Kalan lah ka pato e pahni teh tami pueng ni a paco han.
27 Prepare thy works for [thy] going forth, and prepare thyself for the field; and come after me, and thou shalt rebuild thine house.
Alawilah na thaw hah kâcai haw, law thaw tawk hanelah kâcai haw, hathnukkhu na im hah sak.
28 Be not a false witness against thy [fellow] citizen, neither exaggerate with thy lips.
A khuekhaw awm laipalah na imri taranlahoi kapanuekkhaikung lah awm hanh, bangkongtetpawiteh na pahni hoi na dum han namaw.
29 Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.
Ahni ni kai dawk a sak e patetlah ahni dawk ka sak han, amae moi rueng ka pathung han telah tet hanh.
30 A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.
Ka pangak law ka cei teh, thaipanueknae ka tawn hoeh naw e misur takha koe ka cei.
31 If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.
Pâkhing ni king a kayo, pho king a cak, rapan koung a tip toe.
32 Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.
Ka khet teh kahawicalah ka pouk, cangkhainae ao telah ka panue.
33 [The sluggard says, ]I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across [my] breast.
Dongdeng ka yan ei nei, dongdeng ka ip ei nei, kut tapam laihoi kâhat einei na ti lahun nah,
34 But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier.
mathoenae ni imyin patetlah tho vaiteh, na voutnae teh ransa patetlah a tho han.
