Proverbs 20
1 Wine is an intemperate thing, and strong drink full of violence: but every fool is entangled with them.
El vino hace tontos a los hombres, y la bebida fuerte hace que los hombres lleguen a los golpes; y quien entra en error por esto no es sabio.
2 The threat of a king differs not from the rage of a lion; and he that provokes him sins against his own soul.
La ira de un rey es como el fuerte grito de un león; el que lo enoja hace lo malo contra sí mismo.
3 [It is] a glory to a man to turn aside from railing; but every fool is entangled with such matters.
Es un honor para un hombre evitar pelear, pero los tontos siempre están en guerra.
4 A sluggard when reproached is not ashamed: so also he who borrows corn in harvest.
El que odia el trabajo no ara su arado debido al invierno; entonces, en el momento de cortar el grano, él estará pidiendo comida y no obtendrá nada.
5 Counsel in a man's heart is deep water; but a prudent man will draw it out.
El propósito en el corazón de un hombre es como aguas profundas, pero un hombre con buen sentido lo sacará.
6 A man is valuable, and a merciful man precious: but [it is] hard to find a faithful man.
La mayoría de los hombres no ocultan sus actos bondadosos, pero ¿dónde se puede ver a un hombre de buena fe?
7 He that walks blameless in justice, shall leave his children blessed.
Un hombre recto continúa con su justicia: ¡Felices son sus hijos después de él!
8 Whenever a righteous king sits on the throne, no evil thing can stand before his presence.
Un rey en el tribunal juzga todo el mal con sus ojos.
9 Who will boast that he has a pure heart? or who will boldly say that he is pure from sins?
¿Quién puede decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón, estoy libre de mi pecado?
10 A large and small weight, and divers measures, are even both of them unclean before the Lord; and [so is] he that makes them.
Pesas desiguales y medidas desiguales, todos son repugnantes para el Señor.
11 A youth [when in company] with a godly man, will be restrained in his devices, and [then] his way will be straight.
Incluso un niño puede ser juzgado por sus obras, si su trabajo es libre de pecado y si es correcto.
12 The ear hears, and the eye sees: even both of them are the Lord's work.
El oído que oye y el ojo que ve son igualmente obra del Señor.
13 Love not to speak ill, lest thou be cut off: open thine eyes, and be filled with bread.
No seas amante del sueño, o llegarás a ser pobre: mantén tus ojos abiertos, y tendrás suficiente pan.
Malo, muy malo, dice él que está dando dinero por bienes; pero cuando ha seguido su camino, deja en claro su orgullo por lo que compró.
Hay oro y una tienda de corales, pero los labios del conocimiento son una joya de gran precio.
Toma prenda de un hombre si se hace responsable de un hombre extraño, y toma promesa de él que da su palabra por hombres extraños.
El pan de engaño es dulce para el hombre; pero después, su boca estará llena de arena.
Todo propósito se lleva a cabo mediante la ayuda sabia: y guiando sabiamente la guerra.
El que habla acerca de los negocios de los demás revela secretos: así que no tengas nada que ver con el que tiene los labios abiertos de par en par.
20 The lamp of him that reviles father or mother shall be put out, and his eyeballs shall see darkness.
Si alguno maldice a su padre o a su madre, su luz se apagará en la noche más negra.
21 A portion hastily gotten at first shall not be blessed in the end.
Una herencia se puede obtener rápidamente al principio, pero el final no será una bendición.
22 Say not, I will avenge myself on my enemy; but wait on the Lord, that he may help thee.
No digas: Daré castigo por el mal: sigue esperando al Señor, y él será tu salvador.
23 A double weight is an abomination to the Lord; and a deceitful balance is not good in his sight.
Las pesas desiguales son repugnantes para el Señor, y las escalas falsas no son buenas.
24 A man's goings are directed of the Lord: how then can a mortal understand his ways?
Los pasos de un hombre son del Señor; ¿cómo puede entonces un hombre tener conocimiento de su camino?
25 It is a snare to a man hastily to consecrate some of his own property: for [in that case] repentance comes after vowing.
Es un peligro para un hombre decir sin pensar, es santo y, después de tomar su juramento, cuestionarse si es necesario guardarlo.
26 A wise king utterly crushes the ungodly, and will bring a wheel upon them.
Un rey sabio echa a los malhechores y hace que su maldad vuelva a ellos.
27 The spirit of man is a light of the Lord, who searches the inmost parts of the belly.
El Señor vela por el espíritu del hombre, buscando en todas las partes más profundas del cuerpo.
28 Mercy and truth are a guard to a king, and will surround his throne with righteousness.
La misericordia y la buena fe protegen al rey, y la sede de su poder se basa en actos rectos.
29 Wisdom is an ornament to young men; and grey [hairs] are the glory of old men.
La gloria de los jóvenes es su fuerza, y el honor de los viejos es su canas.
30 Bruises and contusions befall bad men; and plagues [shall come] in the inward parts of [their] belly.
Por las heridas de la vara, el mal se va, y los golpes limpian las partes más profundas del cuerpo.
