Malachias 3

1 Behold, I send forth my messenger, and he shall survey the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come into his temple, even the angel of the covenant, whom ye take pleasure in: behold, he is coming, saith the Lord Almighty.

Voici, je m'en vais envoyer mon messager, et il préparera la voie devant moi, et incontinent le Seigneur que vous cherchez entrera dans son Temple, l'Ange, dis-je, de l'alliance, lequel vous souhaitez; voici, il vient, a dit l'Eternel des armées.

2 And who will abide the day of his coming? or who will withstand at his appearing? for he is coming in as the fire of a furnace and as the herb of fullers.

Mais qui pourra soutenir le jour de sa venue? et qui pourra subsister quand il paraîtra? Car il sera comme le feu de celui qui raffine, et comme le savon des foulons.

3 He shall sit to melt and purify as it were silver, and as it were gold: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver, and they shall offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Et il sera [assis] comme celui qui raffine et qui purifie l'argent; il nettoiera les fils de Lévi, il les épurera comme l'or et l'argent; et ils présenteront à l'Eternel une oblation suivant la justice.

4 And the sacrifice of Juda and Jerusalem shall be pleasing to the Lord, according to the former days, and according to the former years.

L'oblation de Juda et de Jérusalem sera agréable à l'Eternel, comme dans les jours d'autrefois, et comme dans les premières années.

5 And I will draw near to you in judgment; and I will be a sift witness against the witches, and against the adulteresses, and against them that swear falsely by my name, and against them that keep back the hireling's wages, and them that oppress the widow, and afflict orphans, and that wrest the judgment of the stranger, and fear not me, saith the Lord Almighty.

Je m'approcherai de vous pour faire jugement, et je serai témoin subit contre les enchanteurs, et contre les adultères, et contre ceux qui jurent faussement, et contre ceux qui fraudent le loyer du mercenaire, [qui oppriment] la veuve et l'orphelin, et qui font tort à l'étranger, et qui ne me craignent point, a dit l'Eternel des armées.

6 For I am the Lord your God, and I am not changed:

Parce que je [suis] l'Eternel, et que je n'ai point changé, à cause de cela, enfants de Jacob, vous n'avez point été consumés.

7 but ye, the sons of Jacob, have not refrained from the iniquities of your fathers: ye have perverted my statutes, and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, saith the Lord Almighty. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

Depuis le temps de vos pères vous vous êtes détournés de mes statuts, et ne [les] avez point gardés. Retournez-vous vers moi, et je me retournerai vers vous, a dit l'Eternel des armées. Et vous dites: En quoi nous convertirons-nous?

8 Will a man insult God? for ye insult me. But ye say, Wherein have we insulted thee? In that the tithes and first-fruits are with you [still].

L'homme pillera-t-il Dieu, que vous me pilliez? Et vous dites: En quoi t'avons-nous pillé? [Vous l'avez fait] dans les dîmes et dans les offrandes.

9 And ye do surely look off from me, and ye insult me.

Vous êtes certainement maudits, parce que vous me pillez, [vous] toute la nation.

10 The year is completed, and ye have brought all the produce into the storehouses; but there shall be the plunder thereof in its house: return now on this behalf, saith the Lord Almighty, [see] if I will not open to you the torrents of heaven, and pour out my blessing upon you, until ye are satisfied.

Apportez toutes les dîmes aux lieux ordonnés pour les garder, et qu'il y ait provision dans ma maison; et dès maintenant éprouvez-moi en ceci, a dit l'Eternel des armées, si je ne vous ouvre les canaux des cieux, et si je ne répands en votre faveur la bénédiction, en sorte que vous n'y pourrez point suffire.

11 And I will appoint food for you, and I will not destroy the fruit of your land; and your vine in the field shall not fail, saith the Lord Almighty.

Et je réprimerai pour l'amour de vous le dévorateur, et il ne vous ravagera point les fruits de la terre; et vos vignes ne seront point stériles dans la campagne, a dit l'Eternel des armées.

12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a desirable land, saith the Lord Almighty.

Toutes les nations vous diront heureux, parce que vous serez un pays souhaitable, a dit l'Eternel des armées.

13 Ye have spoken grievous words against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye said, Wherein have we spoken against thee?

Vos paroles se sont renforcées contre moi, a dit l'Eternel; et vous dites: Qu'avons-nous donc dit contre toi?

14 Ye said, He that serves God labours in vain: and what have we gained in that we have kept his ordinances, and in that we have walked as suppliants before the face of the Lord Almighty?

Vous avez dit: C'est en vain qu'on sert Dieu, et qu'avons-nous gagné d'avoir gardé ce qu'il a commandé de garder, et d'avoir marché en pauvre état pour l'amour de l'Eternel des armées?

15 And now we pronounce strangers blessed; and all they who act unlawfully are built up; and they have resisted God, and [yet] have been delivered.

Et maintenant nous tenons pour heureux les orgueilleux; et même ceux qui commettent la méchanceté, sont avancés, et s'ils ont tenté Dieu, ils ont été délivrés.

16 Thus spoke they that feared the Lord, every one to his neighbour: and the Lord gave heed, and hearkened, and he wrote a book of remembrance before him for them that feared the Lord and reverenced his name.

Alors ceux qui craignent l'Eternel ont parlé l'un à l’autre, et l'Eternel y a été attentif, et l'a ouï, et on a écrit un livre de mémoires, devant lui; pour ceux qui craignent l'Eternel, et qui pensent à son Nom.

17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord Almighty, in the day which I appoint for a peculiar possession; and I will make choice of them, as a man makes choice of his son that serves him.

Et ils seront miens, a dit l'Eternel des armées, lorsque je mettrai à part mes plus précieux joyaux, et je leur pardonnerai, ainsi que chacun pardonne à son fils qui le sert.

18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, and between him that serves God, and him that serves [him] not.

Convertissez-vous donc, et vous verrez [la différence qu'il y a] entre le juste et le méchant; entre celui qui sert Dieu et celui qui ne l'a point servi.
