Judges 5
1 And Debbora and Barac son of Abineem sang in that day, saying,
In quel giorno, Debora cantò questo cantico con Barak, figliuolo di Abinoam:
2 A revelation was made in Israel when the people were made willing: Praise ye the Lord.
“Perché dei capi si son messi alla testa del popolo in Israele, perché il popolo s’è mostrato volenteroso, benedite l’Eterno!
3 Hear, ye kings, and hearken, rulers: I will sing, it is I [who will sing] to the Lord, it is I, I will sing a psalm to the Lord the god of Israel.
Ascoltate, o re! Porgete orecchio, o principi! All’Eterno, sì, io canterò, salmeggerò all’Eterno, all’Iddio d’Israele.
4 O Lord, in thy going forth on Seir, when thou wentest forth out of the land of Edom, the earth quaked and the heaven dropped dews, and the clouds dropped water.
O Eterno, quand’uscisti da Seir, quando venisti dai campi di Edom, la terra tremò, ed anche i cieli si sciolsero, anche le nubi si sciolsero in acqua.
5 The mountains were shaken before the face of the Lord Eloi, this Sina before the face of the Lord God of Israel.
I monti furono scossi per la presenza dell’Eterno, anche il Sinai, là, fu scosso dinanzi all’Eterno, all’Iddio d’Israele.
6 In the days of Samegar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, they deserted the ways, and went in by-ways; they went in crooked paths.
Ai giorni di Shamgar, figliuolo di Anath, ai giorni di Jael, le strade erano abbandonate, e i viandanti seguivan sentieri tortuosi.
7 The mighty men in Israel failed, they failed until Debbora arose, until she arose a mother in Israel.
I capi mancavano in Israele; mancavano, finché non sorsi io, Debora, finché non sorsi io, come una madre in Israele.
8 They chose new gods; then the cities of rulers fought; there was not a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel.
Si sceglievan de’ nuovi dèi, e la guerra era alle porte. Si scorgeva forse uno scudo, una lancia, fra quaranta mila uomini d’Israele?
9 My heart [inclines] to the orders given in Israel; ye that are willing among the people, bless the Lord.
Il mio cuore va ai condottieri d’Israele! O voi che v’offriste volenterosi fra il popolo, benedite l’Eterno!
10 Ye that mount a she-ass at noon-day, ye that sit on the judgment-seat, and walk by the roads of them that sit in judgment by the way; declare
Voi che montate asine bianche, voi che sedete su ricchi tappeti, e voi che camminate per le vie, cantate!
11 [ye that are delivered] from the noise of disturbers among the drawers of water; there shall they relate righteous acts: O Lord, increase righteous acts in Israel: then the people of the Lord went down to the cities.
Lungi dalle grida degli arcieri là tra gli abbeveratoi, si celebrino gli atti di giustizia dell’Eterno, gli atti di giustizia de’ suoi capi in Israele! Allora il popolo dell’Eterno discese alle porte.
12 Awake, awake, Debbora; awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barac, and lead thy captivity captive, son of Abineem.
Dèstati, dèstati, o Debora! dèstati, dèstati, sciogli un canto! Lèvati, o Barak, e prendi i tuoi prigionieri, o figlio d’Abinoam!
13 Then went down the remnant to the strong, the people of the Lord went down for him among the mighty ones from me.
Allora scese un residuo, alla voce dei nobili scese un popolo, l’Eterno scese con me fra i prodi.
14 Ephraim rooted them out in Amalec, behind thee was Benjamin among thy people: the inhabitants of Machir came down with me searching out the enemy, and from Zabulon came they that draw with the scribe's pen of record.
Da Efraim vennero quelli che stanno sul monte Amalek; al tuo séguito venne Beniamino fra le tue genti; da Makir scesero de’ capi, e da Zabulon quelli che portano il bastone del comando.
15 And princess in Issachar were with Debbora and Barac, thus she sent Barac on his feet in the valleys into the portions of Ruben; great [pangs] reached to the heart.
I principi d’Issacar furon con Debora; quale fu Barak, tale fu Issacar, si slanciò nella valle sulle orme di lui. Presso i rivi di Ruben, grandi furon le risoluzioni del cuore!
16 Why did they sit between the sheep-folds to hear the bleating of flocks for the divisions of Ruben? [there were] great searchings of heart.
Perché sei tu rimasto fra gli ovili ad ascoltare il flauto dei pastori? Presso i rivi di Ruben, grandi furon le deliberazioni del cuore!
17 Galaad [is] on the other side of Jordan where he pitched his tents; and why does Dan remain in ships? Aser sat down on the sea-coasts, and he will tabernacle at his ports.
Galaad non ha lasciato la sua dimora di là dal Giordano; e Dan perché s’è tenuto sulle sue navi? Ascer è rimasto presso il lido del mare, e s’è riposato ne’ suoi porti.
18 The people Zabulon exposed their soul to death, and Nephthali came to the high places of their land.
Zabulon è un popolo che ha esposto la sua vita alla morte, e Neftali, anch’egli, sulle alture della campagna.
19 Kings set themselves in array, then the kings of Chanaan fought in Thanaach at the water of Mageddo; they took no gift of money.
I re vennero, pugnarono; allora pugnarono i re di Canaan a Taanac, presso le acque di Meghiddo; non ne riportarono un pezzo d’argento.
20 The stars from heaven set themselves in array, they set themselves [to fight] with Sisara out of their paths.
Dai cieli si combatté: gli astri, nel loro corso, combatteron contro Sisera.
21 The brook of Kison swept them away, the ancient brook, the brook Kison: my mighty soul will trample him down.
Il torrente di Kison li travolse, l’antico torrente, il torrente di Kison. Anima mia, avanti, con forza!
22 When the hoofs of the horse were entangled, his mighty ones earnestly hasted
Allora gli zoccoli de’ cavalli martellavano il suolo, al galoppo, al galoppo de’ lor guerrieri in fuga.
23 to curse Meroz: Curse ye [it], said the angel of the Lord; cursed [is] every one that dwells in it, because they came not to the help of the Lord, to his help among the mighty.
“Maledite Meroz”, dice l’angelo dell’Eterno; “maledite, maledite i suoi abitanti, perché non vennero in soccorso dell’Eterno, in soccorso dell’Eterno insieme coi prodi!”
24 Blessed among women be Jael wife of Chaber the Kenite; let her be blessed above women in tents.
Benedetta sia fra le donne Jael, moglie di Heber, il Keneo! Fra le donne che stan sotto le tende, sia ella benedetta!
25 He asked for water, she gave him milk in a dish; she brought butter of princes.
Egli chiese dell’acqua, ed ella gli diè del latte; in una coppa d’onore gli offerse della crema.
26 She stretched forth her left hand to the nail, and her right to the hand workman's hammer, and she smote Sisara with it, she nailed through his head and smote him; she nailed through his temples.
Con una mano, diè di piglio al piuolo; e, con la destra, al martello degli operai; colpì Sisera, gli spaccò la testa, gli fracassò, gli trapassò le tempie.
27 He rolled down between her feet; he fell and lay between her feet; he bowed and fell: where he bowed, there he fell dead.
Ai piedi d’essa ei si piegò, cadde, giacque disteso; a’ piedi d’essa si piegò, e cadde; là dove si piegò, cadde esanime.
28 The mother of Sisara looked down through the window out of the loophole, [saying], Why was his chariot ashamed? why did the wheels of his chariots tarry?
La madre di Sisera guarda per la finestra, e grida a traverso l’inferriata: “Perché il suo carro sta tanto a venire? perché son così lente le ruote de’ suoi carri?”
29 Her wise ladies answered her, and she returned answers to herself, [saying],
Le più savie delle sue dame le rispondono, ed ella pure replica a se stessa:
30 Will they not find him dividing the spoil? he will surely be gracious to every man: [there are] spoils of dyed garments for Sisara, spoils of various dyed garments, dyed embroidered garments, they [are] the spoils for his neck.
“Non trovan bottino? non se lo dividono? Una fanciulla, due fanciulle per ognuno; a Sisera un bottino di vesti variopinte; un bottino di vesti variopinte e ricamate, di vesti variopinte e ricamate d’ambo i lati per le spalle del vincitore!”
31 Thus let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: and they that love him shall be as the going forth of the sun in his strength. And the land had rest forty years.
Così periscano tutti i tuoi nemici, o Eterno! E quei che t’amano sian come il sole quando si leva in tutta la sua forza!” Ed il paese ebbe requie per quarant’anni.
