Judges 1
1 And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel enquired of the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Chananites, to fight against them?
യോശുവയുടെ മരണശേഷം, “തങ്ങളിൽ ആരാകുന്നു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്യാൻ ആദ്യം പുറപ്പെടേണ്ടത്” എന്ന് ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
2 And the Lord said, Judas shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
“യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെടട്ടെ; ഞാൻ ശേഷിക്കുന്ന ഭൂപ്രദേശം അവരുടെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
3 And Judas said to his brother Symeon, Come up with me into my lot, and let us array ourselves against the Chananites, and I also will go with thee into thy lot: and Symeon went with him.
യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാർ തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ശിമെയോന്യഗോത്രത്തോട്, “ഞങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശഭൂമിയിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്ന കനാന്യരോട് യുദ്ധംചെയ്യുന്നതിന് ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരണമേ. അതിനുപകരമായി നിങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശഭൂമി കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനു നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഞങ്ങളും വരാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശിമെയോന്യർ അവരോടുകൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.
4 And Judas went up; and the Lord delivered the Chananite and the Pherezite into their hands, and they smote them in Bezek to [the number of] ten thousand men.
അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദാ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു, യഹോവ കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും അവരുടെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു; അവർ ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ച് അവരിൽ പതിനായിരംപേരെ കൊന്നു.
5 And they overtook Adonibezek in Bezek, and fought against him; and they smote the Chananite and the Pherezite.
ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ച് അവർ അദോനീ-ബേസെക്കിനെ എതിരിട്ടു, അവനെതിരേ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും തോൽപ്പിച്ചു.
6 And Adonibezek fled, and they pursued after him, and took him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
അദോനീ-ബേസെക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോയി; എന്നാൽ അവർ അവനെ പിൻതുടർന്നുപിടിച്ചു, അവന്റെ കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
7 And Adonibezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their food] under my table: as I therefore have done, so God has recompensed me: and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
അപ്പോൾ അദോനീ-ബേസെക്ക് പറഞ്ഞു: “കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ച എഴുപതു രാജാക്കന്മാർ എന്റെ മേശയുടെ കീഴിൽനിന്ന് പെറുക്കിത്തിന്നിരുന്നു; ഞാൻ ചെയ്തതുപോലെതന്നെ ദൈവം എനിക്കുപകരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.” അവർ അവനെ ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവിടെവെച്ച് അവൻ മരിച്ചു.
8 And the children of Judas fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote with the edge of the sword, and they burnt the city with fire.
യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാർ ജെറുശലേമിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു, അതും കീഴടക്കി; അതിലെ നിവാസികളെ വാളിനിരയാക്കി നഗരം തീവെച്ചു.
9 And afterwards the children of Judas went down to fight with the Chananite dwelling in the hill country, and the south, and the plain country.
അതിനുശേഷം യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ മലനാട്ടിലും തെക്കേദേശത്തും പടിഞ്ഞാറ് കുന്നിൻപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
10 And Judas went to the Chananite who dwelt in Chebron; and Chebron came out against him; [and the name of Chebron before was Cariatharbocsepher: ] and they smote Sessi, and Achiman, and Tholmi, children of Enac.
യെഹൂദാ ഹെബ്രോനിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടും യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു—ഹെബ്രോന് പണ്ടു കിര്യത്ത്-അർബാ എന്നായിരുന്നു പേര്—അവർ ശേശായി, അഹീമാൻ, തൽമായി എന്നിവരെ തോൽപ്പിച്ചു.
11 And they went up thence to the inhabitants of Dabir; but the name of Dabir was before Cariathsepher, the city of Letters.
അവിടെനിന്ന് അവർ, ദെബീർനിവാസികൾക്കെതിരേയുള്ള യുദ്ധത്തിൽ മുന്നേറി. ദെബീറിന്റെ പഴയപേർ കിര്യത്ത്-സേഫെർ എന്നായിരുന്നു.
12 And Chaleb said, Whosoever shall smite the city of Letters, and shall first take it, I will give to him Ascha my daughter to wife.
അപ്പോൾ കാലേബ്, “കിര്യത്ത്-സേഫെർ ആക്രമിച്ചു കീഴടക്കുന്നവന് ഞാൻ എന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ വിവാഹംചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
13 And Gothoniel the younger son of Kenez the brother of Chaleb took it; and Chaleb gave him his daughter Ascha to wife.
കാലേബിന്റെ അനുജനായ കെനസിന്റെ മകൻ ഒത്നിയേൽ അതു കീഴടക്കി; കാലേബ് തന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ അവനു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.
14 And it came to pass as she went in, that Gothoniel urged her to ask a field of her father; and she murmured and cried from off her ass, Thou hast sent me forth into a south land: and Chaleb said to her, What is thy request?
അക്സ ഒത്നിയേലിനെ വിവാഹംകഴിച്ച ദിവസം, തന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ഒരു വയൽ ചോദിക്കാൻ അവൾ ഒത്നിയേലിനെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചു; അവൾ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തുനിന്നിറങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ കാലേബ് അവളോട്, “നിനക്കു ഞാൻ എന്തു ചെയ്തുതരണം?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
15 And Ascha said to him, Give me, I pray thee, a blessing, for thou hast sent me forth into a south land, and thou shalt give me the ransom of water: and Chaleb gave her according to her heart the ransom of the upper [springs] and the ransom of the low [springs].
അവൾ മറുപടിയായി: “ഒരു അനുഗ്രഹംകൂടി എനിക്കു തരണമേ; അങ്ങ് എനിക്കു തെക്കേദേശമാണല്ലോ തന്നിരിക്കുന്നത്. നീരുറവകളുംകൂടി എനിക്കു തരേണമെ” എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ട് കാലേബ് അവൾക്കു മലകളിലും താഴ്വരകളിലും നീരുറവകൾ കൊടുത്തു.
16 And the children of Jothor the Kenite the father-in-law of Moses went up from the city of palm-trees with the children of Judas, to the wilderness that is in the south of Juda, which is at the descent of Arad, and they dwelt with the people.
മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പന്റെ പിൻഗാമികളായ കേന്യർ യെഹൂദാമക്കളോടുകൂടെ ഈന്തപ്പന നഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് അതായത്, യെരീഹോനഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് തെക്കേദേശത്ത് അരാദിനു സമീപമുള്ള യെഹൂദാ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പോയി; അവിടെയുള്ള ജനത്തോടുകൂടെ താമസിച്ചു.
17 And Judas went with Symeon his brother, and smote the Chananite that inhabited Sepheth, and they utterly destroyed them; and they called the name of the city Anathema.
പിന്നെ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോന്യപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടെ സെഫാത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു; അവരെ നിശ്ശേഷം നശിപ്പിച്ചു; ആ നഗരത്തിനു ഹോർമാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
18 But Judas did not inherit Gaza nor her coasts, nor Ascalon nor her coasts, nor Accaron nor her coasts, [nor] Azotus nor the lands around it.
യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ, ഗസ്സാ, അസ്കലോൻ, എക്രോൻ എന്നീ പട്ടണങ്ങളും അതിന്റെ അതിരിനോടു ചേർന്നുള്ള ദേശങ്ങളും പിടിച്ചടക്കി.
19 And the Lord was with Judas, and he inherited the mountain; for they were not able to destroy the inhabitants of the valley, for Rechab prevented them.
യഹോവ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവർ മലനാടു കൈവശമാക്കി; എന്നാൽ താഴ്വരയിലെ നിവാസികൾക്ക് ഇരുമ്പുരഥങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
20 And they gave Chebron to Chaleb, as Moses said; and thence he inherited the three cities of the children of Enac.
മോശ വാഗ്ദത്തം ചെയ്തിരുന്നതുപോലെ അവർ കാലേബിനു ഹെബ്രോൻ കൊടുത്തു; അദ്ദേഹം അവിടെനിന്ന് അനാക്കിന്റെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
21 But the children of Benjamin did not take the inheritance of the Jebusite who dwelt in Jerusalem; and the Jebusite dwelt with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem until this day.
ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രം ജെറുശലേമിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന യെബൂസ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; യെബൂസ്യർ ഇന്നും ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടുകൂടെ ജെറുശലേമിൽ താമസിച്ചുവരുന്നു.
22 And the sons of Joseph, they also went up to Baethel; and the Lord was with them.
യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗോത്രങ്ങൾ ബേഥേലിനെതിരേ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. യഹോവ അവരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
23 And they encamped and surveyed Baethel: and the name of the city before was Luza.
അവർ ബേഥേലിൽ ചാരപ്രവർത്തകരെ അയച്ചു—ബേഥേലിനു മുമ്പ് ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരായിരുന്നു.
24 And the spies looked, and behold, a man went out of the city, and they took him; and they said to him, Shew us the way into the city, and we will deal mercifully with thee.
പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്ന ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ ചാരപ്രവർത്തകർ കണ്ടു. അവർ അവനോട്, “പട്ടണത്തിൽ കടക്കാൻ ഒരു വഴി കാണിച്ചുതരണം; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നോടു ദയ ചെയ്യും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
25 And he shewed them the way into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and his family.
അവൻ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴി അവർക്കു കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവർ പട്ടണനിവാസികളെ മുഴുവനും വാളിനിരയാക്കി. ആ മനുഷ്യനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സകലകുടുംബത്തെയും രക്ഷിച്ചു.
26 And the man went into the land of Chettin, and built there a city, and called the name of it Luza; this [is] its name until this day.
ഇതിനുശേഷം ആ മനുഷ്യൻ ഹിത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തുചെന്ന് ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു. അതിനു ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; ഇന്നും ആ പേരിൽ അത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
27 And Manasse did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Baethsan, which is a city of Scythians, nor her towns, nor her suburbs; nor Thanac, nor her towns; nor the inhabitants of Dor, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; nor the inhabitant of Balac, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; nor the inhabitants of Magedo, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; nor the inhabitants of Jeblaam, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; and the Chananite began to dwell in this land.
എന്നാൽ ബേത്-ശയാൻ, താനാക്ക്, ദോർ, യിബ്ലെയാം, മെഗിദ്ദോ എന്നീ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും അവയുടെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ മനശ്ശെഗോത്രം നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല. കനാന്യർക്ക് ആ ദേശത്തുതന്നെ തുടരാനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹം അങ്ങനെ സാധിച്ചു.
28 And it came to pass when Israel was strong, that he made the Chananite tributary, but did not utterly drive them out.
എന്നാൽ ഇസ്രായേല്യർ ശക്തരായിത്തീർന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ കനാന്യരെ മുഴുവൻ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു കഠിനവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു.
29 And Ephraim did not drive out the Chananite that dwelt in Gazer; and the Chananite dwelt in the midst of him in Gazer, and became tributary.
എഫ്രയീംഗോത്രം ഗേസെരിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യർ അവിടെ അവരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു.
30 And Zabulon did not drive out the inhabitants of Kedron, nor the inhabitants of Domana: and the Chananite dwelt in the midst of them, and became tributary to them.
സെബൂലൂൻഗോത്രം കിത്രോനിലും നഹലോലിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; അവർ സെബൂലൂൻഗോത്രത്തിന് അടിമവേലചെയ്ത് അവരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു.
31 And Aser did not drive out the inhabitants of Accho, and [that people] became tributary to him, nor the inhabitants of Dor, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor the inhabitants of Dalaph, nor Aschazi, nor Chebda, nor Nai, nor Ereo.
ആശേർഗോത്രം അക്കോവിലും സീദോനിലും അഹ്ലാബിലും അക്സീബിലും ഹെൽബയിലും അഫേക്കിലും രെഹോബിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല.
32 And Aser dwelt in the midst of the Chananite who inhabited the land, for he could not drive him out.
ആശേർഗോത്രത്തിലുള്ളർ അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെതന്നെ ആ ദേശവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു.
33 And Nephthali did not drive out the inhabitants of Baethsamys, nor the inhabitants of Baethanach; and Nephthali dwelt in the midst of the Chananite who inhabited the land: but the inhabitants of Bethsamys and of Baetheneth became tributary to them.
നഫ്താലിഗോത്രം ബേത്-ശേമെശിലും ബേത്-അനാത്തിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ആ ദേശവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു; എന്നാൽ ബേത്-ശേമെശിലെയും ബേത്-അനാത്തിലെയും നിവാസികൾ അവർക്ക് നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരായിത്തീർന്നു.
34 And the Amorite drove out the children of Dan into the mountains, for they did not suffer them to come down into the valley.
അമോര്യർ ദാൻഗോത്രത്തിലുള്ളവരെ മലനാട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ പാർക്കാൻ നിർബന്ധിതരാക്കി. താഴ്വരയിലേക്കിറങ്ങാൻ അവരെ സമ്മതിച്ചുമില്ല.
35 And the Amorite began to dwell in the mountain of shells, in which [are] bears, and foxes, in Myrsinon, and in Thalabin; and the hand of the house of Joseph was heavy upon the Amorite, and he became tributary to them.
അങ്ങനെ അമോര്യർക്കു ഹേരെസുമലയിലും അയ്യാലോനിലും ശാൽബീമിലും താമസിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹം സാധിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗോത്രങ്ങൾ ശക്തരായിത്തീർന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ അവരെയും നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരാക്കിത്തീർത്തു.
36 And the border of the Amorite [was] from the going up of Acrabin, from the rock and upwards.
അമോര്യരുടെ അതിര് അക്രബീം ചുരംമുതൽ സേലാവരെയും അതിനുമുകളിലേക്കുമായിരുന്നു.
