Joshua 4
1 And when the people had completely passed over Jordan, the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying,
Als nun das ganze Volk die Überschreitung des Jordan beendigt hatte, sprach Jahwe zu Josua also:
2 Take men from the people, one of each tribe,
Wählt euch aus dem Volke zwölf Männer, je einen Mann aus jedem Stamm,
3 and charge them; and ye shall take out of the midst of Jordan twelve fit stones, and having carried them across together with yourselves, place them in your camp, where ye shall encamp for the night.
und befehlt ihnen: Nehmt euch von dort, mitten aus dem Jordan, von da, wo die Füße der Priester stillstanden, zwölf Steine, tragt sie mit euch hinüber und stellt sie an dem Platze auf, wo ihr heute übernachten werdet.
4 And Joshua having called twelve men of distinction among the children of Israel, one of each tribe,
Da berief Josua die zwölf Männer, die er aus den Israeliten bestellt hatte, je einen aus jedem Stamm.
5 said to them, Advance before me in the presence of the Lord into the midst of Jordan, and each having taken up a stone from thence, let him carry it on his shoulders, according to the number of the twelve tribes of Israel:
Und Josua befahl ihnen: Geht vor der Lade Jahwes, eures Gottes, einher mitten in den Jordan hinein und nehmt ein jeder einen Stein auf die Schulter, entsprechend der Anzahl der israelitischen Stämme.
6 that these may be to you continually for an appointed sign, that when thy son asks thee in future, saying, What are these stones to us?
Diese sollen zu einem Denkmal unter euch dienen. Wenn euch dann künftig eure Söhne fragen: Was haben diese Steine für eine Bedeutung für euch?
7 then thou mayest explain to thy son, saying, The river Jordan was dried up from before the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth, when it passed it: and these stones shall be for a memorial for you for the children of Israel for ever.
so sollt ihr ihnen antworten: Die, daß das Wasser des Jordan vor der Gesetzeslade Jahwes, als sie den Jordan durchzog, zu fließen aufhörte. Das Wasser des Jordan hörte auf zu fließen; so sollen nun diese Steine den Israeliten zum Andenken dienen auf ewige Zeiten.
8 And the children of Israel did so, as the Lord commanded Joshua; and they took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, (as the Lord commanded Joshua, when the children of Israel had completely passed over, ) and carried these stones with them into the camp, and laid them down there.
Da thaten die Israeliten, wie ihnen Josua befohlen hatte, und nahmen zwölf Steine mitten aus dem Jordan, wie Jahwe Josua geboten hatte, entsprechend der Anzahl der israelitischen Stämme; die trugen sie mit sich hinüber an den Platz, wo sie übernachteten, und stellten sie daselbst auf.
9 And Joshua set also other twelve stones in Jordan itself, in the place that was under the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord; and there they are to this day.
Und Josua richtete mitten im Jordan zwölf Steine auf an dem Platze, wo die Füße der Priester, die die Gesetzeslade trugen, gestanden hatten; und sie blieben dort bis auf den heutigen Tag.
10 And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant stood in Jordan, until Joshua [had] finished all that the Lord commanded him to report to the people; and the people hasted and passed over.
Die Priester aber, welche die Lade trugen, blieben mitten im Jordan stehen, bis alles ausgeführt war, was Jahwe Josua befohlen hatte, damit er es dem Volke auftrüge, gemäß alledem, was Mose Josua befohlen hatte, und das Volk zog rasch hinüber.
11 And it came to pass when all the people had passed over, that the ark of the covenant of the Lord passed over, and the stones before them.
Als nun das ganze Volk den Übergang beendigt hatte, ging auch die Lade Jahwes mit den Priestern hinüber und trat an die Spitze des Volks.
12 And the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses commanded them.
Und die Rubeniten, die Gaditen und der halbe Stamm Manasse zogen kampfgerüstet an der Spitze der Israeliten hinüber, wie ihnen Mose geboten hatte.
13 Forty thousand armed for battle went over before the Lord to war, to the city of Jericho.
In der Stärke von ungefähr vierzigtausend kriegsgerüsteten Männern zogen sie vor Jahwe in den Krieg, hinüber in die Steppen von Jericho.
14 In that day the Lord magnified Joshua before all the people of Israel; and they feared him, as [they did] Moses, as long as he lived.
An jenem Tage verherrlichte Jahwe Josua vor den Israeliten, und sie hielten ihn nun sein Leben lang hoch, wie sie Mose hochgehalten hatten.
15 And the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying,
Da sprach Jahwe zu Josua also:
16 Charge the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of the testimony of the Lord, to go up out of Jordan.
Befiehl den Priestern, die die Gesetzeslade tragen, aus dem Jordan heraufzusteigen!
17 And Joshua charged the priests, saying, Go up out of Jordan.
Da befahl Josua den Priestern und sprach: Steigt herauf aus dem Jordan!
18 And it came to pass when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord were gone up out of Jordan, and set their feet upon the land, [that] the water of Jordan returned impetuously to its place, and went as before over all its banks.
Als nun die Priester, die die Gesetzeslade Jahwes trugen, aus dem Jordan heraufstiegen und die Priester kaum eben ihre Füße auf das Trockene gesetzt hatten, kehrte das Wasser des Jordan wieder an seine frühere Stelle zurück und trat, wie früher überall aus seinen Ufern.
19 And the people went up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month; and the children of Israel encamped in Galgala in the region eastward from Jericho.
Das Volk aber kam am zehnten des ersten Monats aus dem Jordan herauf und lagerte sich am Gilgal am östlichen Ende des Gebiets von Jericho.
20 And Joshua set these twelve stones which he took out of Jordan, in Galgala,
Jene zwölf Steine aber, die sie aus dem Jordan genommen hatten richtete Josua im Gilgal auf
21 saying, When your sons ask you, saying, What are these stones?
und sprach zu den Israeliten also: Wenn eure Söhne künftig ihre Väter fragen und sprechen: Was bedeuten diese Steine?
22 Tell your sons, that Israel went over this Jordan on dry land,
so sollt ihr es euren Söhnen zu wissen thun: Trockenen Fußes haben die Israeliten den Jordan hier überschritten,
23 when the Lord our God had dried up the water of Jordan from before them, until they had passed over; as the Lord our God did to the Red Sea, which the Lord our God dried up from before us, until we passed over.
indem Jahwe, euer Gott, das Wasser des Jordan vor euch vertrocknen ließ, bis ihr hinübergezogen wart, ebenso wie Jahwe, euer Gott, mit dem Schilfmeere that, das er vor uns vertrocknen ließ, bis wir durchgezogen waren,
24 That all the nations of the earth might know, that the power of the Lord is mighty, and that ye might worship the Lord our God in every work.
damit alle Völker der Erde erkennen sollten, daß die Macht Jahwes gewaltig ist, damit ihr Jahwe, euren Gott, fürchtet, solange ihr lebt.
