Job 40
1 And the Lord God answered Job, and said,
Yahvé répondit à Job,
2 Will [any one] pervert judgment with the Mighty One? and he that reproves God, let him return it for answer.
« Celui qui discute conteste-t-il avec le Tout-Puissant? Celui qui discute avec Dieu, qu'il y réponde. »
3 And Job answered and said to the Lord,
Alors Job répondit à Yahvé,
4 Why do I yet plead? being rebuked even while reproving the Lord: hearing such things, whereas I am nothing: and what shall I answer to these [arguments]? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
« Voici, je suis de peu de valeur. Que vous répondrai-je? Je pose ma main sur ma bouche.
5 I have spoken once; but I will not do so a second time.
J'ai parlé une fois, et je ne répondrai pas; Oui, deux fois, mais je ne vais pas aller plus loin. »
6 And the Lord yet again answered and spoke to Job out of the cloud, [saying],
Alors Yahvé répondit à Job du haut du tourbillon:
7 Nay, gird up now thy loins like a man; and I will ask thee, and do thou answer me.
« Maintenant, prépare-toi comme un homme. Je vous interrogerai, et vous me répondrez.
8 Do not set aside my judgment: and dost thou think that I have dealt with thee in any other way, than that thou mightest appear to be righteous?
Annulerez-vous même mon jugement? Me condamneras-tu pour que tu sois justifié?
9 Hast thou an arm like the Lord's? or dost thou thunder with a voice like his?
Ou bien as-tu un bras comme Dieu? Pouvez-vous tonner avec une voix comme la sienne?
10 Assume now a lofty bearing and power; and clothe thyself with glory and honour.
« Maintenant, couvre-toi de gloire et de dignité. Arborez-vous avec honneur et majesté.
11 And send forth messengers with wrath; and lay low every haughty one.
Répands la fureur de ta colère. Regardez tous ceux qui sont orgueilleux, et abaissez-les.
12 Bring down also the proud man; and consume at once the ungodly.
Regardez quiconque s'enorgueillit, et humiliez-le. Écraser les méchants à leur place.
13 And hide them together in the earth; and fill their faces with shame.
Cachez-les ensemble dans la poussière. Liez leurs visages dans le lieu caché.
14 [Then] will I confess that thy right hand can save [thee].
Alors je vous avouerai aussi que ta propre main droite peut te sauver.
15 But now look at the wild beasts with thee; they eat grass like oxen.
« Vois maintenant le Béhémoth, que j'ai fait aussi bien que toi. Il mange de l'herbe comme un bœuf.
16 Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
Regarde maintenant, sa force est dans ses cuisses. Sa force est dans les muscles de son ventre.
17 He sets up his tail like a cypress; and his nerves are wrapped together.
Il remue sa queue comme un cèdre. Les tendons de ses cuisses sont noués ensemble.
18 His sides are sides of brass; and his backbone is [as] cast iron.
Ses os sont comme des tubes d'airain. Ses membres sont comme des barres de fer.
19 This is the chief of the creation of the Lord; made to be played with by his angels.
Il est le chef des voies de Dieu. Celui qui l'a créé lui donne son épée.
20 And when he has gone up to a steep mountain, he causes joy to the quadrupeds in the deep.
Certes, les montagnes produisent de la nourriture pour lui, où tous les animaux du champ jouent.
21 He lies under trees of every kind, by the papyrus, and reed, and bulrush.
Il est allongé sous les lotus, dans le couvert du roseau, et dans le marais.
22 And the great trees make a shadow over him with their branches, and [so do] the bushes of the field.
Les lotus le couvrent de leur ombre. Les saules du ruisseau l'entourent.
23 If there should be a flood, he will not perceive it; he trust that Jordan will rush up into his mouth.
Voici, si un fleuve déborde, il ne tremble pas. Il est confiant, bien que le Jourdain gonfle jusqu'à sa bouche.
24 [Yet one] shall take him in his sight; [one] shall catch [him] with a cord, and pierce his nose.
Personne ne peut le prendre quand il est de garde, ou lui percer le nez avec un collet?
