Job 12
1 And Job answered and said,
Et Job reprit et dit:
2 So then ye [alone] are men, and wisdom shall die with you?
En vérité vous êtes tout un peuple, et avec vous mourra la sagesse!
3 [But] I also have a heart as well as you.
Moi aussi, j'ai du sens comme vous, je ne vous le cède point! Et de qui ces choses sont-elles ignorées?
4 For a righteous and blameless man has become a subject for mockery.
De mon ami je suis la risée, quand j'invoque Dieu et qu'il m'exauce; la risée! un juste! un innocent!
5 For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors: let not however any one trust that, being evil, he shall be [held] guiltless,
Au malheur le mépris, dans l'idée des heureux! il est près de celui dont le pied chancelle.
6 even as many as provoke the Lord, as if there were indeed to be no inquisition [made] of them.
Les tentes tranquilles sont pour les destructeurs, et la sécurité, pour ceux qui bravent le Seigneur, et qui se font un Dieu de leur bras.
7 But ask now the beasts, if they may speak to thee; and the birds of the air, if they may declare to thee.
Mais interroge les brutes, pour qu'elles t'instruisent, et les oiseaux des cieux, pour qu'ils l'expliquent!
8 Tell the earth, if it may speak to thee: and the fishes of the sea shall explain to thee.
ou parle à la terre, pour qu'elle t'instruise! et les poissons de la mer te raconteront!
9 Who then has not known in all these things, that the hand of the Lord has made them?
Entre eux tous, qui pourrait ignorer que la main de l'Éternel a fait ces choses?
10 Whereas the life of all living things is in his hand, and the breath of every man.
Il tient en sa main l'âme de tout ce qui vit, et l'esprit de tout corps d'homme.
11 For the ear tries words, and the palate tastes meats.
Est-ce que l'ouïe ne discerne pas les discours, de même que le palais goûte les aliments?
12 In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge.
Les vieillards ont de la sagesse, et l'âge avancé, de l'intelligence.
13 With him are wisdom and power, with him counsel and understanding.
Chez Lui se trouve sagesse et puissance, Il a conseil et intelligence.
14 If he should cast down, who will build up? if he should shut up against man, who shall open?
Voici, Il détruit, et on ne relève pas. Enferme-t-Il un homme, il n'est pas élargi.
15 If he should withhold the water, he will dry the earth: and if he should let it loose, he overthrows and destroys it.
Voici, Il retient les eaux, et elles sèchent; Il les envoie, et elles bouleversent la terre.
16 With him are strength and power: he has knowledge and understanding.
Chez lui se trouvent force et sagesse, Il est maître de celui qui erre, et de celui qui fait errer;
17 He leads counsellors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth.
Il emmène les conseillers captifs, et fait délirer les juges;
18 He seats kings upon thrones, and girds their loins with a girdle.
Il relâche l'autorité des rois, et enchaîne leurs reins d'une ceinture;
19 He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth.
Il emmène les prêtres captifs, et Il renverse les puissants;
20 He changes the lips of the trusty, and he knows the understanding of the elders.
Il ôte la parole aux hommes éprouvés, et retire le jugement aux vieillards;
21 He pours dishonour upon princes, and heals the lowly.
Il verse le mépris sur les nobles, et délie la ceinture des forts;
22 Revealing deep things out of darkness: and he has brought into light the shadow of death.
produit les secrets hors des ténèbres, et fait sortir au jour l'ombre de mort;
23 Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them: overthrowing the nations, and leading them [away].
Il élève les peuples, et les perd; Il disperse les peuples, et les rétablit;
24 Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth: and he causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, [saying],
Il ôte le sens aux chefs des peuples, et les égare dans des déserts sans chemins;
25 Let them grope [in] darkness, and [let there be] no light, and let them wander as a drunken man.
ils tâtonnent dans l'obscurité, sans clarté, Il leur donne le vertige, comme à l'homme ivre.
