Jeremias 4

1 If Israel will return to me, saith the Lord, he shall return: and if he will remove his abominations out of his mouth, and fear before me, and swear,

“ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിനക്കു മടങ്ങിവരാൻ മനസ്സുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ, എങ്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു. “നീ നിന്റെ മ്ലേച്ഛവിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ എന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽനിന്ന് നീക്കിക്കളയുകയും ഇനിയൊരിക്കലും വഴിതെറ്റിപ്പോകാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമെങ്കിൽ,

2 The Lord lives, with truth, in judgment and righteousness, then shall nations bless by him, and by him they shall praise God in Jerusalem.

‘ജീവിക്കുന്ന യഹോവയാണെ,’ എന്നു സത്യസന്ധതയോടും നീതിയോടും ന്യായത്തോടും നീ ശപഥംചെയ്യുമെങ്കിൽ, രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ അവിടത്തെ നാമത്തിൽ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും അവരുടെ അഭിമാനം യഹോവയിലായിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.”

3 For thus saith the Lord to the men of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Break up fresh ground for yourselves, and sow not among thorns.

യഹോവ യെഹൂദ്യയിലെയും ജെറുശലേമിലെയും ജനത്തോട് ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ തരിശുനിലം ഉഴുവിൻ; മുള്ളിനിടയിൽ വിതയ്ക്കാതെയിരിക്കുക.

4 Circumcise yourselves to your God, and circumcise your hardness of heart, ye men of Juda, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my wrath go forth as fire, and burn, and there be none to quench it, because of the evil of your devices.

നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികളുടെ ദോഷംനിമിത്തം എന്റെ കോപം തീപോലെ വരികയും ആർക്കും കെടുത്തിക്കൂടാത്തവണ്ണം ജ്വലിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്, യെഹൂദാജനങ്ങളേ, ജെറുശലേംനിവാസികളേ, നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ യഹോവയ്ക്കായി പരിച്ഛേദനം ചെയ്യുക; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ അഗ്രചർമം നീക്കിക്കളയുക.”

5 Declare ye in Juda, and let it be heard in Jerusalem: say ye, Sound the trumpet in the land; cry ye aloud: say ye, Gather yourselves together, and let us enter into the fortified cities.

“യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ അറിയിച്ച് ജെറുശലേമിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കുക: ‘ദേശത്തെല്ലായിടത്തും കാഹളം മുഴക്കുക!’ ‘ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടുക! ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളിലേക്കു നമുക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോകാം!’ എന്ന് ഉറക്കെ വിളിച്ചുപറയുക.

6 Gather up [your wares] and flee to Sion: hasten, stay not: for I will bring evils from the north, and great destruction.

സീയോനു മുന്നറിയിപ്പായി കൊടിയുയർത്തുക! നിൽക്കാതെ സുരക്ഷിതത്വത്തിനായി ഓടിപ്പോകുക! കാരണം ഞാൻ വടക്കുനിന്ന് അനർഥംവരുത്തും, ഒരു മഹാനാശംതന്നെ.”

7 The lion is gone up from his lair, he has roused [himself] to the destruction of the nations, and has gone forth out of his place, to make the land desolate; and the cities shall be destroyed, so as to be without inhabitant.

സിംഹം കുറ്റിക്കാട്ടിൽനിന്ന് ഇളകിയിരിക്കുന്നു, രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളുടെ സംഹാരകൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അവൻ തന്റെ സ്ഥലം വിട്ടെഴുന്നേറ്റ് നിന്റെ ദേശം ശൂന്യമാക്കും. നിന്റെ പട്ടണം, നിവാസികളില്ലാതെ ശൂന്യമാക്കപ്പെടും.

8 For these things gird yourselves with sackclothes, and lament, and howl: for the anger of the Lord is not turned away from you.

അതുകൊണ്ടു ചാക്കുശീല ധരിച്ച്, വിലപിക്കുകയും അലമുറയിടുകയുംചെയ്യുക. യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപം നമ്മെ വിട്ടു നീങ്ങിയിട്ടില്ലല്ലോ.

9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be amazed, and the prophets shall wonder.

“ആ ദിവസത്തിൽ രാജാവും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ധൈര്യഹീനരാകും, പുരോഹിതന്മാർ ഭ്രമിച്ചും പ്രവാചകന്മാർ സ്തംഭിച്ചുംപോകും,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

10 And I said, O sovereign Lord, verily thou hast deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, There shall be peace; whereas behold, the sword has reached even to their soul.

അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ, “അയ്യോ, കർത്താവായ യഹോവേ! വാൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ തൊണ്ടയിൽ വെക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കെ, ‘നിങ്ങൾക്കു സമാധാനമുണ്ടാകും,’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അങ്ങ് ഈ ജനത്തെയും ജെറുശലേമിനെയും പൂർണമായും വഞ്ചിച്ചല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.”

11 At that time they shall say to this people and to Jerusalem, [There is] a spirit of error in the wilderness: the way of the daughter of my people is not to purity, nor to holiness.

ആ കാലത്ത് ഈ ജനത്തോടും ജെറുശലേമിനോടും ഇപ്രകാരം പറയേണ്ടിവരും, “മരുഭൂമിയിലെ മൊട്ടക്കുന്നുകളിൽനിന്നുള്ള ഉഷ്ണക്കാറ്റ്, എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ പുത്രിയുടെനേരേ വരും, എന്നാൽ പാറ്റുന്നതിനും കൊഴിക്കുന്നതിനുമല്ല,

12 [But] a spirit of full vengeance shall come upon me; and now I declare my judgments against them.

ഇതിലും ശക്തമായൊരു കാറ്റ് എന്റെ കൽപ്പനയാൽ വരും; ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ അവരുടെനേരേ ന്യായവിധി നടത്തും.”

13 Behold, he shall come up as a cloud, and his chariots as a tempest: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are in misery.

ഇതാ! അവൻ മേഘംപോലെ കയറിവരുന്നു, അവന്റെ രഥങ്ങൾ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുപോലെ വരുന്നു, അവന്റെ കുതിരകൾ കഴുകന്മാരെക്കാൾ വേഗമുള്ളവ. നമുക്ക് അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! നാം നശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു!

14 Cleanse thine heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, that thou mayest be saved: how long will thy grievous thoughts be within thee?

ജെറുശലേമേ, നീ രക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത കഴുകിക്കളയുക. നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടചിന്തകൾ എത്രവരെ ഉള്ളിൽ കുടികൊള്ളും?

15 For a voice of one publishing from Dan shall come, and trouble out of mount Ephraim shall be heard of.

ഒരു ശബ്ദം ദാനിൽനിന്ന് വിളംബരംചെയ്യുകയും എഫ്രയീം മലയിൽനിന്ന് നാശം വിളിച്ചറിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

16 Remind ye the nations; behold, they are come: proclaim [it] in Jerusalem, that bands are approaching from a land afar off, and have uttered their voice against the cities of Juda.

“രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളോട് പ്രസ്താവിക്കുക, ഇതു ജെറുശലേമിനെ അറിയിക്കുക: ‘ഇതാ ശത്രുക്കൾ ദൂരദേശത്തുനിന്നു വരുന്നു, യെഹൂദാ പട്ടണങ്ങൾക്കുനേരേ യുദ്ധാരവംമുഴക്കുന്നു.

17 As keepers of a field, they have surrounded her; because thou, saith the Lord, has neglected me.

അവൾ എനിക്കെതിരേ മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാൽ, വയൽ കാക്കുന്നവരെപ്പോലെ അവർ വന്ന് അവളെ വളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു,’” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

18 Thy ways and thy devices have brought these things upon thee; this is thy wickedness, for [it is] bitter, for it has reached to thy heart.

“നിന്റെ പെരുമാറ്റവും നിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളും ഇതു നിന്റെമേൽ വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതാണ് നിനക്കുള്ള ശിക്ഷ. അതു എത്ര കയ്‌പുള്ളത്! നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിലേക്ക് എത്രമാത്രം തുളഞ്ഞുകയറുന്നത്!”

19 I am pained in my bowels, my bowels, and the sensitive powers of my heart; my soul is in great commotion, my heart is torn: I will not be silent, for my soul has heard the sound of a trumpet, the cry of war, and of distress: it calls on destruction;

എന്റെ ഉള്ളം! എന്റെ ഉള്ളം! ഞാൻ അതിവേദനയിലായിരിക്കുന്നു. അയ്യോ! എന്റെ ഹൃദയവ്യഥ! എന്റെ നെഞ്ചിടിക്കുന്നു. എനിക്കു മിണ്ടാതിരിക്കാൻ കഴിവില്ല. കാരണം കാഹളനാദം ഞാൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; യുദ്ധത്തിന്റെ ആർപ്പുവിളിയും ഞാൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

20 for all the land is distressed: suddenly [my] tabernacle is distressed, my curtains have been rent asunder.

നാശത്തിനുമീതേ നാശം വരുന്നു; ദേശമൊക്കെയും ശൂന്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു. വളരെപ്പെട്ടെന്നുതന്നെ എന്റെ കൂടാരം നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടു, നിമിഷങ്ങൾക്കകം എന്റെ നിവാസസ്ഥാനവും.

21 How long shall I see fugitives, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

എത്രനാൾ ഞാൻ യുദ്ധപതാക കാണുകയും കാഹളനാദം കേൾക്കുകയും ചെയ്യണം?

22 For the princes of my people have not known me, they are foolish and unwise children: they are wise to do evil, but [how] to do good they have not known.

“എന്റെ ജനം ഭോഷരാണ്; അവർ എന്നെ അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. അവർ ബുദ്ധികെട്ട മക്കൾ; അവർക്കൊരു ബോധവുമില്ല. അവർ തിന്മ ചെയ്യാൻ സമർഥർ; നന്മചെയ്യാൻ അവർക്ക് അറിയുകയില്ല.”

23 I looked upon the earth, and, behold, [it was] not; and to the sky, an there was no light in it.

ഞാൻ ഭൂമിയെ നോക്കി, അതു രൂപരഹിതവും ശൂന്യവുമായിരുന്നു; ഞാൻ ആകാശത്തെ നോക്കി; അതിൽ പ്രകാശം ഇല്ലാതെയായിരിക്കുന്നു.

24 I beheld the mountains, and they trembled, and [I saw] all the hills in commotion.

ഞാൻ പർവതങ്ങളെ നോക്കി; അവ വിറകൊള്ളുന്നതു ഞാൻ കണ്ടു; മലകളെല്ലാം ആടിയുലയുകയായിരുന്നു.

25 I looked, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the sky were scared.

ഞാൻ നോക്കി, ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെയും കണ്ടില്ല; ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികളെല്ലാം പറന്നുപോയിരുന്നു.

26 I saw, and, behold, Carmel was desert, and all the cities were burnt with fire at the presence of the Lord, and at the presence of his fierce anger they were utterly destroyed.

ഞാൻ നോക്കി; ഫലപുഷ്ടിയുള്ള സ്ഥലം ഒരു മരുഭൂമിയായി മാറിയിരുന്നു; അതിലെ എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളും, യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ, അവിടത്തെ ഉഗ്രകോപംനിമിത്തം തകർന്നുപോയിരുന്നു.

27 Thus saith the Lord, The whole land shall be desolate; but I will not make a full end.

യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: “ഞാൻ അതിനു പൂർണനാശം വരുത്താതിരുന്നിട്ടും, ദേശംമുഴുവൻ ശൂന്യമായിത്തീരും.

28 For these things let the earth mourn, and let the sky be dark above: for I have spoken, and I will not repent; I have purposed, and I will not turn back from it.

ഇതുനിമിത്തം ഭൂമി വിലപിക്കും, മുകളിൽ ആകാശം കറുത്തുപോകും, കാരണം ഞാൻ അതു സംസാരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, അനുതപിക്കുകയില്ല, ഞാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, പിന്മാറുകയില്ല.”

29 The whole land has recoiled from the noise of the horseman and the bent bow; they have gone into the caves, and have hidden themselves in the groves, and have gone up upon the rocks: every city was abandoned, no man dwelt in them.

കുതിരച്ചേവകരുടെയും വില്ലാളികളുടെയും ആരവംകേട്ട് പട്ടണംമുഴുവൻ ഓടിപ്പോകും. ചിലർ കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളിൽ അഭയംതേടും, ചിലർ പാറകളിലേക്കു വലിഞ്ഞുകയറും. എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടും; ആരും അവിടെ പാർക്കുകയില്ല.

30 And what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself with scarlet, and adorn thyself with golden ornaments; though thou adorn thine eyes with stibium, thy beauty [will be] in vain: thy lovers have rejected thee, they seek thy life.

ഇങ്ങനെ ശൂന്യമാക്കപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ നീ എന്തുചെയ്യും? നീ രക്താംബരം ധരിക്കുകയും സ്വർണാഭരണങ്ങൾ അണിയുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്തിന്? നീ കണ്ണെഴുതി നിന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾക്കു തിളക്കം വരുത്തുന്നതെന്തിന്? നീ വ്യർഥമായി അണിഞ്ഞൊരുങ്ങുകയാണ്. നിന്റെ കാമുകന്മാർ നിന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കും; അവർ നിനക്കു പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്താൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കും.

31 For I have heard thy groaning as the voice of a woman in travail, as of her that brings forth her first child; the voice of the daughter of Zion shall fail through weakness, and she shall lose the strength of her hands, [saying], Woe is me! for my soul faints because of the slain.

പ്രസവവേദന ബാധിച്ച ഒരുവളുടെയും ആദ്യജാതനെ പ്രസവിക്കാൻ വേദനപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരുവളുടെയും ഞരക്കംപോലെയൊരു ശബ്ദം ഞാൻ കേട്ടു. വീർപ്പുമുട്ടിയും കൈമലർത്തിയുംകൊണ്ട് “എനിക്ക് അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! കൊലയാളികളുടെ മുമ്പിൽ എന്റെ പ്രാണൻ തളർന്നുപോകുന്നു,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു വിലപിക്കുന്ന സീയോൻപുത്രിയുടെ ശബ്ദംതന്നെ.
