Jeremias 2
1 And he said, Thus saith the Lord,
| بار دیگر خداوند با من سخن گفت و فرمود: |
2 I remember the kindness of thy youth, and the love of thine espousals,
| «برو و به اهالی اورشلیم بگو که خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: گذشته‌ها را به یاد می‌آورم، زمانی را که تازه عروس بودی! در آن روزها چقدر مشتاق بودی که مورد پسند من باشی! چقدر مرا دوست می‌داشتی! حتی در بیابانهای خشک و سوزان نیز همراهم می‌آمدی. |
3 in following the Holy One of Israel, saith the Lord, Israel was the holy [people] to the Lord, [and] the first-fruits of his increase: all that devoured him shall offend; evils shall come upon them, saith the Lord.
| ای اسرائیل، تو در آن روزها قوم مقدّس من و نخستین فرزند من بودی. اگر کسی به تو آزار می‌رساند او را محکوم کرده، به بلایی سخت گرفتار می‌ساختم.» |
4 Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and every family of the house of Israel.
| ای خاندان یعقوب و ای تمامی طوایف اسرائیل، کلام خداوند را بشنوید. |
5 Thus saith the Lord, What trespass have your fathers found in me, that they have revolted far from me, and gone after vanities, and become vain?
| خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: «چرا پدران شما از من دل کندند؟ چه کوتاهی در حق ایشان کردم که از من رو برگرداندند؟ آنها در پی بتهای باطل رفتند و خود نیز باطل شدند. |
6 And they said not, Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who guided us in the wilderness, in an untried and trackless land, in a land which no man at all went through, and no man dwelt there?
| گویا فراموش کردند که این من بودم که ایشان را از مصر نجات داده، در بیابانهای خشک و سوزان هدایت کردم، و از سرزمینهای خطرناک پر از گودال و از شوره‌زارهای مرگبار عبور دادم از مکانهای غیرمسکونی که حتی کسی از آنها عبور نمی‌کند |
7 And I brought you to Carmel, that ye should eat the fruits thereof, and the good thereof; and ye went in, and defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
| و آنها را به سرزمینی حاصلخیز آوردم تا از محصول و برکات آن برخوردار شوند؛ اما ایشان آنجا را به گناه و فساد کشیدند و میراث مرا به شرارت آلوده ساختند. |
8 The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that held by the law knew me not: the shepherds also sinned against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after that which profited not.
| حتی کاهنانشان هم در فکر من نبودند، و داورانشان نیز به من اعتنایی نکردند، حکام ایشان بر ضد من برخاستند و انبیای آنها بت بعل را پرستیدند و عمر خود را با کارهای بیهوده تلف کردند. |
9 Therefore I will yet plead with you, and will plead with your children's children.
| «بنابراین من شما را محکوم می‌کنم! حتی در سالهای آینده، فرزندان و نوه‌های شما را نیز محکوم خواهم کرد! |
10 For go to the isles of the Chettians, and se; and send to Kedar, and observe accurately, and see if such things have been done;
| «به سرزمینهای اطراف نگاه کنید! ببینید آیا می‌توانید در جایی قومی بیابید که خدایانشان را با خدایان تازه عوض کرده باشند با اینکه خدایانشان واقعاً خدا نیستند! کسانی را به جزیرۀ قبرس در غرب و به صحرای قیدار در شرق بفرستید و ببینید آیا در آنجا تا به حال چنین اتفاق غریبی رخ داده است؟ اما قوم من از خدایی که موجب سربلندی‌شان بود روگردان شده، به دنبال بتهای بی‌جان رفته‌اند! |
11 if the nations will change their gods, though they are not gods: but my people have changed their glory, [for that] from which they shall not be profited.
12 The heaven is amazed at this, and is very exceedingly horror-struck, saith the Lord.
| آسمانها از چنین کاری حیرت‌زده شده، به خود می‌لرزند؛ |
13 For my people has committed two [faults], and evil ones: they have forsaken me, the fountain of water of life, and hewn out for themselves broken cisterns, which will not be able to hold water.
| زیرا قوم من مرتکب دو خطا شده‌اند: اول اینکه، مرا که چشمهٔ آب حیات هستم ترک نموده‌اند و دوم اینکه رفته‌اند و برای خود حوضهایی شکسته ساخته‌اند که نمی‌توانند آب را در خود نگه دارند! |
14 Is Israel a servant, or a home-born slave? why has he become a spoil?
| «مگر قوم اسرائیل، برای بندگی و غلامی انتخاب شده که این گونه اسیر گشته، به جای دور برده می‌شود؟ |
15 The lions roared upon him, and uttered their voice, which have made his land a wilderness: and his cities are broken down, that they should not be inhabited.
| «سپاهیان نیرومند شمال مانند شیران غران به سوی سرزمین اسرائیل در حرکتند تا آن را ویران ساخته، شهرهایش را بسوزانند و با خاک یکسان کنند. |
16 Also the children of Memphis and Taphnas have known thee, and mocked thee.
| نیروهای مصر نیز بر ضد او برخاسته، از شهرهای خود مِمفیس و تَحفَنحیس می‌آیند تا عظمت و قدرت اسرائیل را در هم بکوبند. |
17 Has not thy forsaking me brought these things upon thee? saith the Lord thy God.
| ای اورشلیم، تو خود باعث شدی که چنین بلایی بر تو نازل شود، چون وقتی خداوند، خدایت می‌خواست تو را راهنمایی کند، از او سرپیچی کردی!» |
18 And now what hast thou to do with the way of Egypt, to drink the water of Geon? and what hast thou to do with the way of the Assyrians, to drink the water of rivers?
| خداوند، که خداوند لشکرهای آسمان است، می‌فرماید: «از اتحاد با مصر و آشور چه نفعی برده‌ای؟ شرارت و گناه خودت، تو را تنبیه و مجازات خواهد کرد. آنگاه خواهی دید که سرپیچی از خدا و بی‌احترامی به او چه عواقب بدی دارد! |
19 Thine apostasy shall correct thee, and thy wickedness shall reprove thee: know then, and see, that thy forsaking me [has been] bitter to thee, saith the Lord thy God; and I have taken no pleasure in thee, saith the Lord thy God.
20 For of old thou hast broken thy yoke, and plucked asunder thy bands; and thou has said, I will not serve thee, but will go upon every high hill, and under every shady tree, there will I indulge in my fornication.
| از مدتها پیش یوغ مرا از گردنت باز کردی، رشته‌های انس و الفت خود را با من بریدی و گفتی:”تو را خدمت نخواهم کرد!“روی هر تپه و زیر هر درخت سبز مانند فاحشه‌ای برای بتها دراز کشیدی. |
21 Yet I planted thee a fruitful vine, entirely of the right sort: how art thou a strange vine turned to bitterness!
| «اما من تو را همچون تاکی برگزیده که از بذر اصیل باشد، غرس کردم. پس چگونه فاسد شده، به تاکی وحشی تبدیل گشتی؟ |
22 Though thou shouldest wash thyself with nitre, and multiply to thyself soap, [still] thou art stained by thine iniquities before me, saith the Lord.
| با هر چه که خود را بشویی، پاک نخواهی شد. به گناهی آلوده شده‌ای که پاک شدنش محال است؛ گناه تو همیشه در نظرم خواهد ماند. |
23 How wilt thou say, I am not polluted, and have not gone after Baal? behold thy ways in the burial-ground, and know what thou hast done: her voice has howled in the evening:
| چگونه می‌توانی بگویی که منحرف نشده‌ای و بتهای بعل را نپرستیده‌ای؟ ای ماده شتر بی‌قرار که به دنبال جفت می‌گردی، به همهٔ دشتهای سرزمینت نگاه کن و خطاهای خویش را ملاحظه نما و به گناهان هولناکت اعتراف کن! |
24 she has extended her ways over the waters of the desert; she was hurried along by the lusts of her soul; she is given up [to them], who will turn her back? none that seek her shall be weary; at [the time of] her humiliation they shall find her.
| تو مثل گورخری هستی که شهوتش او را به بیابان می‌کشاند و کسی نمی‌تواند مانع او شود. هر گورخر نری که تو را بخواهد بی‌هیچ زحمتی تو را به دست می‌آورد، چون خودت را در آغوشش می‌اندازی! |
25 Withdraw thy foot from a rough way, and thy throat from thirst: but she said I will strengthen myself: for she loved strangers, and went after them.
| چرا از این همه دوندگی خسته کننده در پی بتها دست برنمی‌داری؟ تو در جواب می‌گویی: نه، دیگر نمی‌توانم برگردم. من عاشق این بتهای بیگانه شده‌ام و دیگر قادر به دل کندن نیستم. |
26 As is the shame of a thief when he is caught, so shall the children of Israel be ashamed; they, and their kings, and their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.
| «قوم من مانند دزدی که در حال دزدی گرفتار می‌شود، خجل و شرمگین خواهد شد؛ پادشاهان، بزرگان، کاهنان و انبیا نیز به همین وضع دچار خواهند گردید. چوب تراشیده را پدر خود و بُتی را که از سنگ ساخته شده، مادر خود می‌خوانند؛ ولی وقتی در زحمت و مصیبت گرفتار می‌شوند نزد من آه و ناله می‌کنند تا نجاتشان دهم! |
27 They said to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou has begotten me: and they have turned [their] backs to me, and not their faces: yet in the time of their afflictions they will say, Arise, and save us.
28 And where are thy gods, which thou madest for thyself? will they arise and save in the time of thine affliction? for according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem they sacrificed to Baal.
| بگذارید بتهایی که خود ساخته‌اید، در زمان مصیبت، شما را نجات دهند! شما که به تعداد شهرهای یهودا بت دارید! |
29 Wherefore do ye speak unto me? ye all have been ungodly, and ye all have transgressed against me, saith the Lord.
| دیگر به من پناه نیاورید، چون شما همه سرکش هستید. |
30 In vain have I smitten your children; ye have not received correction: a sword has devoured your prophets as a destroying lion; yet ye feared not.
| فرزندان شما را تنبیه کرده‌ام، ولی چه فایده، چون خود را اصلاح نکردند! همچون شیری که شکار خود را می‌کشد، شما هم انبیای مرا کشته‌اید. |
31 Hear ye the word of the Lord: thus saith the Lord, Have I been a wilderness or a dry land to Israel? wherefore has my people said, We will not be ruled over, and will not come to thee any more?
| «ای قوم من، به کلام من گوش فرا دهید: آیا من در حق بنی‌اسرائیل بی‌انصافی کرده‌ام؟ آیا برای ایشان مانند یک زمین تاریک و پربلا بوده‌ام؟ پس چرا قوم من می‌گویند: سرانجام از دست خدا رها شدیم، دیگر نمی‌خواهیم با چنین خدایی سروکار داشته باشیم! |
32 Will a bride forget her ornaments, or a virgin her girdle? but my people has forgotten me days without number.
| «آیا ممکن است دوشیزه‌ای زیور آلاتش را از یاد ببرد؟ آیا امکان دارد تازه عروسی، لباس عروسی‌اش را فراموش کند؟ با این حال، قوم من سالهاست مرا که برایشان همچون گنجی گرانبها بوده‌ام، فراموش کرده‌اند! |
33 What fair device wilt thou yet employ in thy ways, so as to seek love? [it shall] not [be] so; moreover thou has done wickedly in corrupting thy ways;
| «چقدر ماهرانه فاسقان را به سوی خود جلب می‌کنید! حتی با سابقه‌ترین زنان بدکاره هم می‌توانند از شما چیزهایی بیاموزند! |
34 and in thine hands has been found the blood of innocent souls; I have not found them in holes, but on every oak.
| لباستان به خون فقیران بی‌گناه آغشته است. شما آنان را که هرگز برای سرقت وارد منازل شما نشده بودند، بی‌جهت کشته‌اید! |
35 Yet thou saidst, I am innocent: only let his wrath be turned away from me. Behold, I [will] plead with thee, whereas thou sayest, I have not sinned.
| با این حال می‌گویید: ما بی‌گناهیم و کاری نکرده‌ایم که خدا خشمگین شود! اما من شما را به شدت مجازات می‌کنم، چون می‌گویید: بی‌گناهیم! |
36 For thou has been so exceedingly contemptuous as to repeat thy ways; but thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assur.
| «مدام به دنبال هم‌پیمانان جدید می‌گردید، اما همان‌گونه که آشور شما را رها کرد، مصر نیز کمکی به شما نخواهد کرد. |
37 For thou shalt go forth thence also with thine hands upon thine head; for the Lord has rejected thine hope, and thou shalt not prosper in it.
| از آنجا نیز ناامید و سرافکنده باز خواهید گشت، چون خداوند کسانی را که شما به ایشان تکیه می‌کنید طرد کرده است؛ با وجود تمام کمکهای ایشان، باز هم کاری از پیش نخواهید برد.» |
