Jeremias 13
1 Thus saith the Lord, Go and procure for thyself a linen girdle, and put it about thy loins, and let it not be put in water.
Yahvé me dijo: “Ve y cómprate un cinturón de lino, póntelo en la cintura y no lo metas en el agua”.
2 So I procured the girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it about my loins.
Así que compré un cinturón según la palabra de Yahvé, y me lo puse en la cintura.
3 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
La palabra de Yahvé vino a mí por segunda vez, diciendo:
4 Take the girdle that is upon thy loins, and arise, and go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.
“Toma el cinturón que has comprado, que está en tu cintura, y levántate, ve al Éufrates, y escóndelo allí en una hendidura de la roca.”
5 So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.
Fui, pues, a esconderla junto al Éufrates, como me había ordenado Yahvé.
6 And it came to pass after many days, that the Lord said to me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
Después de muchos días, Yahvé me dijo: “Levántate, ve al Éufrates y toma de allí el cinturón que te mandé esconder.”
7 So I went to the river Euphrates, and dug, and took the girdle out of the place where I [had] buried it: and, behold, it was rotten, utterly good for nothing.
Entonces fui al Éufrates, cavé y saqué el cinturón del lugar donde lo había escondido; y he aquí que el cinturón estaba arruinado. No servía para nada.
8 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord,
Entonces vino a mí la palabra de Yahvé, diciendo:
9 Thus will I mar the pride of Juda, and the pride of Jerusalem;
“Dice Yahvé: ‘Así arruinaré la soberbia de Judá y el gran orgullo de Jerusalén.
10 [even] this great pride [of the men] that will not hearken to my words, and have gone after strange gods, to serve them, and to worship them: and they shall be as this girdle, which can be used for nothing.
Este pueblo malvado, que se niega a escuchar mis palabras, que camina en la terquedad de su corazón y que se ha ido tras otros dioses para servirlos y adorarlos, será como este cinturón, que no sirve para nada.
11 For as a girdle cleaves about the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave to myself the house of Israel, and the whole house of Juda; that they might be to me a famous people, and a praise, and a glory: but they did not hearken to me.
Porque como el cinturón se adhiere a la cintura del hombre, así he hecho que se adhiera a mí toda la casa de Israel y toda la casa de Judá — dice el Señor —, para que me sirvan de pueblo, de nombre, de alabanza y de gloria; pero no han querido escuchar.
12 And thou shalt say to this people, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and it shall come to pass, if they shall say to thee, Shall we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? that thou shalt say to them,
“Por lo tanto, les dirás esta palabra: ‘Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: “Todo recipiente debe llenarse de vino”’. Ellos te dirán: ‘¿No sabemos ciertamente que todo recipiente debe llenarse de vino?’
13 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I [will] fill the inhabitants of this land, and their kings the sons of David that sit upon their throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and Juda and all the dwellers in Jerusalem, with strong drink.
Entonces diles: ‘Yahvé dice: “He aquí que yo lleno de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, a los reyes que se sientan en el trono de David, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén.
14 And I will scatter them a man and his brother, and their fathers and their sons together: I will not have compassion, saith the Lord, and I will not spare, neither will I pity [to save them] from destruction.
Los estrellaré unos contra otros, a los padres y a los hijos juntos”, dice el Señor: “No me apiadaré, ni perdonaré, ni tendré compasión, para no destruirlos””.
15 Hear ye, and give ear, and be not proud: for the Lord has spoken.
Escucha y presta atención. No seas orgulloso, porque Yahvé ha hablado.
16 Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and ye shall wait for light, and behold the shadow of death, and they shall be brought into darkness.
Denle gloria a Yahvé, su Dios, antes de provocar la oscuridad, y antes de que tus pies tropiecen con las montañas oscuras, y mientras buscas la luz, lo convierte en la sombra de la muerte, y lo convierte en una profunda oscuridad.
17 But if ye will not hearken, your soul shall weep in secret because of pride, and your eyes shall pour down tears, because the Lord's flock is sorely bruised.
Pero si no quieres escucharlo, mi alma llorará en secreto por tu orgullo. Mi ojo llorará amargamente, y se derrumba con las lágrimas, porque el rebaño de Yahvé ha sido llevado cautivo.
18 Say ye to the king and the princes, Humble yourselves, and sit down; for your crown of glory is removed from your head.
Di al rey y a la reina madre, “Humíllense. Siéntense, pues sus coronas han bajado, hasta la corona de tu gloria.
19 The cities toward the south were shut, and there was none to open [them]: Juda is removed [into captivity, ]they have suffered a complete removal.
Las ciudades del Sur están cerradas, y no hay nadie que los abra. Judá es llevado cautivo: todos ellos. Están totalmente cautivos.
20 Lift up thine eyes, O Jerusalem, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given thee, the sheep of thy glory?
Levanta los ojos, y ver a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está el rebaño que te fue entregado? ¿tu hermoso rebaño?
21 What wilt thou say when they shall visit thee, for thou didst teach them lessons for rule against thyself; shall not pangs seize thee as a woman in travail?
¿Qué dirás cuando ponga al frente de ti a los que tú mismo has enseñado a ser amigos tuyos? ¿No se apoderarán de ti las penas, como de una mujer que está de parto?
22 And if thou shouldest say in thine heart, Wherefore have these things happened to me? Because of the abundance of thine iniquity have thy skirts been discovered, that thine heels might be exposed.
Si dices en tu corazón “¿Por qué se me han echado encima estas cosas?” Tus faldas están descubiertas a causa de la grandeza de tu iniquidad, y tus tacones sufren violencia.
23 If the Ethiopian shall change his skin, or the leopardess her spots, then shall ye be able to do good, having learnt evil.
El etíope puede cambiar de piel, o el leopardo sus manchas? Entonces, que tú también hagas el bien, que están acostumbrados a hacer el mal.
24 So I scattered them as sticks carried by the wind into the wilderness.
“Por eso los dispersaré como el rastrojo que pasa por el viento del desierto.
25 Thus is thy lot, and the reward of your disobedience to me, saith the Lord; as thou didst forget me, and trust in lies,
Esta es su suerte, la porción que se te ha medido de mi parte”, dice Yahvé, “porque me has olvidado, y confió en la falsedad”.
26 I also will expose thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall be seen;
Por lo tanto, también descubriré tus faldas sobre tu rostro, y tu vergüenza aparecerá.
27 thine adultery also, and thy neighing, and the looseness of thy fornication: on the hills and in the fields I have seen thine abominations. Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, for thou hast not been purified so as to follow me; how long yet [shall it be]?
He visto vuestras abominaciones, incluso vuestros adulterios y tus relinchos, la lascivia de tu prostitución, en las colinas del campo. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! No se te limpiará. ¿Cuánto tiempo pasará todavía?”
