Esias 60

1 Be enlightened, be enlightened, O Jerusalem, for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

Debout! sois illuminée, car ta lumière arrive, et sur toi la gloire de l'Éternel se lève!

2 Behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and [there shall be] gross darkness on the nations: but the Lord shall appear upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

Car voici, les ténèbres couvrent la terre, et l'obscurité les nations, mais sur toi l'Éternel se lève, et sa gloire se rend visible sur toi.

3 And kings shall walk in thy light, and nations in thy brightness.

Et des nations viennent à ta lumière, et des rois à la clarté qui se lève pour toi.

4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold thy children gathered: all thy sons have come from far, and thy daughters shall be borne on [men's] shoulders.

Jette les yeux de toutes parts et regarde! rassemblés ils viennent tous à toi, de loin tes fils arrivent et tes filles sur les bras sont portées.

5 Then shalt thou see, and fear, and be amazed in thine heart; for the wealth of the sea shall come round to thee, and of nations and peoples; and herds of camels shall come to thee,

A ce spectacle tu te réjouis, et ton cœur bat et se dilate, car vers toi se dirigent les richesses de la mer, et l'opulence des peuples s'achemine vers toi.

6 and the camels of Madiam and Gaepha shall cover thee: all from Saba shall come bearing gold, and shall bring frankincense, and they shall publish the salvation of the Lord.

Tu seras couverte d'une foule de chameaux, de dromadaires de Madian et d'Epha; ils viennent tous de Séba, ils portent de l'or et de l'encens et publient les louanges de l'Éternel.

7 And all the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered, and the rams of Nabaeoth shall come; and acceptable sacrifices shall be offered on my altar, and my house of prayer shall be glorified.

Tous les troupeaux de Cédar se rassemblent chez toi, les béliers de Nébaïoth sont à ton service et montent à plaisir à mon autel, et je glorifie ma glorieuse maison.

8 Who are these [that] fly as clouds, and as doves with young ones to me?

Qui sont ceux qui volent là comme des nuages et comme des colombes vers leurs gîtes?

9 The isles have waited for me, and the ships of Tharsis among the first, to bring thy children from afar, and their silver and their gold with them, and [that] for the sake of the holy name of the Lord, and because the Holy One of Israel is glorified.

C'est que les îles s'attendent à moi, et les navires de Tarsis sont en tête pour ramener de loin tes enfants, et leur or et leur argent avec eux, au nom de l'Éternel ton Dieu, et du Saint d'Israël, car Il te couvre de gloire.

10 And strangers shall build thy walls, and their kings shall wait upon thee: for by reason of my wrath I smote thee, and by reason of mercy I loved thee.

Et les enfants de l'étranger relèvent tes murs, et leurs rois sont à ton service, car dans mon courroux je te frappai, mais dans magrâce je prends pitié de toi.

11 And thy gates shall be opened continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; to bring in to thee the power of the Gentiles, and their kings as captives.

Et tes portes sont toujours ouvertes, ni jour ni nuit elles ne se ferment, pour introduire chez toi les trésors des peuples et leurs rois avec leur cortège.

12 For the nations and the kings which will not serve thee shall perish; and those nations shall be made utterly desolate.

Car les peuples et les empires qui refusent de te servir, périront, et les peuples seront détruits.

13 And the glory of Libanus shall come to thee, with the cypress, and pine, and cedar together, to glorify my holy place.

La pompe du Liban arrive chez toi, le cyprès, le platane et le mélèze réunis, pour parer le lieu de mon sanctuaire, afin que je rende glorieuse la place où reposent mes pieds.

14 And the sons of them that afflicted thee, and of them that provoked thee, shall come to thee in fear; and thou shalt be called Sion, the city of the Holy One of Israel.

Et les fils de tes oppresseurs viennent à toi humiliés, et tous tes contempteurs s'inclinent jusqu'à la plante de tes pieds, et t'appellent cité de l'Éternel, Sion, sanctuaire d'Israël.

15 Because thou has become desolate and hated, and there was no helper, therefore I will make thee a perpetual gladness, a joy of many generations.

Tandis que tu étais délaissée et haïe, personne ne te traversant, je te rends glorieuse à perpétuité, heureuse pour tous les âges.

16 And thou shalt suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt eat the wealth of kings: and shalt know that I am the Lord that saves thee and delivers thee, the Holy One of Israel.

Tu boiras le lait des peuples, tu seras allaitée aux mamelles royales, et tu sauras que moi, l'Éternel, je suis ton sauveur et ton rédempteur, le Fort de Jacob.

17 And for brass I will bring thee gold, and for iron I will bring thee silver, and instead of wood I will bring thee brass, and instead of stones, iron; and I will make thy princes peaceable, and thine overseers righteous.

Au lieu de l'airain j'amènerai de l'or, et au lieu du fer j'amènerai de l'argent, et au lieu du bois de l'airain, et au lieu des pierres du fer, et je te donnerai pour gouverneur la paix, et pour magistrats la justice.

18 And injustice shall no more be heard in thy land, nor destruction nor misery in thy coasts; but thy walls shall be called Salvation, and thy gates Sculptured Work.

On n'ouïra plus parler de violence dans ton pays, de ravage et de ruine dans tes limites: et tu appelleras tes murs un salut, et tes portes une gloire.

19 And thou shalt no more have the sun for a light by day, nor shall the rising of the moon lighten thy night; but the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and God thy glory.

Ce ne sera plus le soleil qui le jour te donnera la lumière, ni la lune qui luira pour t'éclairer, mais l'Éternel te sera une lumière éternelle, et ton Dieu sera ta parure.

20 For the sun shall no more set, nor shall the moon be eclipsed; for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be completed.

Ton soleil ne se couchera plus, et ta lune ne s'obscurcira plus, car l'Éternel te sera une lumière éternelle, et ils sont passés tes jours de deuil.

21 Thy people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever, preserving that which they have planted, [even] the works of their hands, for glory.

Et ton peuple est tout autant de justes, éternellement le pays sera possédé par eux, rejeton que j'ai planté, œuvre de ma main pour ma gloire.

22 The little one shall become thousands, and the least a great nation; I the Lord will gather them in [due] time.

Le plus petit s'augmentera jusqu'à mille, et le plus chétif jusqu'à être un peuple nombreux. Moi, l'Éternel, je le ferai promptement en son temps.
