Esias 54
1 Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that dost not travail: for more are the children of the desolate than of her that has a husband: for the Lord has said,
Jubel, onvruchtbare, die nooit hebt gebaard, Breek uit in gejuich en gejubel, die geen barensnood kent; Want talrijker zullen de zonen der verlatene zijn, Dan die der gehuwde, spreekt Jahweh!
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and of thy curtains: fix [the pins], spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy pins;
Kies ruime plaats voor uw tent, Span wijd uw tentdoeken uit; Maak langer uw koorden, Sla vaster uw pinnen!
3 spread forth [thy tent] yet to the right and the left: for thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and thou shalt make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
Want naar rechts en naar links Breekt gij uit; Uw kroost zal naties bezitten, Verwoeste steden bevolken.
4 Fear not, because thou has been put to shame, neither be confounded, because thou was reproached: for thou shalt forget thy former shame, and shalt no more at all remember the reproach of thy widowhood.
Heb dus geen vrees, want ge komt niet te schande, Bloos niet, want ge wordt niet beschaamd. Neen, ge moet de schande uwer jeugd maar vergeten, De smaad van uw weduwschap niet langer gedenken.
5 For [it is] the Lord that made thee; the Lord of hosts is his name: and he that delivered thee, he is the God of Israel, [and] shall be called [so] by the whole earth.
Want uw Schepper zelf wordt uw gade, Jahweh der heirscharen is zijn Naam; Israëls Heilige wordt uw Verlosser, God van heel de aarde wordt Hij genoemd.
6 The Lord has not called thee as a deserted and faint-hearted woman, nor as a woman hated from [her] youth, saith thy God.
Ja, als een eenzame vrouw, van droefheid verslagen, Heeft Jahweh u geroepen; Als een vrouw, van haar jeugd af versmaad, Zegt uw God!
7 For a little while I left thee: but with great mercy will I have compassion upon thee.
Wel heb Ik u voor een korte stonde verlaten, Maar in grote ontferming neem Ik u terug;
8 In a little wrath I turned away my face from thee; but with everlasting mercy will I have compassion upon thee, saith the Lord that delivers thee.
In ziedende gramschap een ogenblik lang U mijn aanschijn verborgen, Maar in eeuwig erbarmen ontferm Ik Mij over u, Spreekt Jahweh, uw Verlosser!
9 From the time of the water of Noe this is my [purpose]: as I sware to him at that time, [saying] of the earth, I will no more be wroth with thee, neither when thou art threatened,
Waarachtig, als in de dagen van Noë Zal ‘t nu voor Mij zijn! Zoals Ik toen heb gezworen, Dat Noë’s wateren nooit meer de aarde zouden bedekken: Zo zweer Ik, op u niet te toornen, Niet langer u te bedreigen.
10 shall the mountains depart, nor shall thy hills be removed: so neither shall my mercy fail thee, nor shall the covenant of thy peace be at all removed: for the Lord [who is] gracious to thee has spoken [it].
En al wijken de bergen, Al wankelen de heuvels: Mijn genade wijkt niet van u, Mijn Bond van Vrede wankelt niet, zegt Jahweh, uw Ontfermer!
11 Afflicted and outcast thou has not been comforted: behold, I [will] prepare carbuncle [for] thy stones, and sapphire for thy foundations;
Gij arme, gejaagde en troosteloze, Zie, uw grondvesten leg Ik met jaspis, Uw fundament met saffieren;
12 and I will make thy buttresses jasper, and thy gates crystal, and thy border precious stones.
Van robijnen maak Ik uw tinnen, Van karbonkels uw poorten, Al uw wallen van edelgesteente;
13 And [I will cause] all thy sons [to be] taught of God, and thy children [to be] in great peace.
En al die u bouwen, Worden door Jahweh zelf onderricht! Een heerlijke vrede valt uw zonen ten deel,
14 And thou shalt be built in righteousness: abstain from injustice, and thou shalt not fear; and trembling shall not come nigh thee.
Als gij in gerechtigheid zijt bevestigd. Verban dus de vrees: ge hebt niets te duchten; En de verschrikking: zij nadert u niet.
15 Behold, strangers shall come to thee by me, and shall sojourn with thee, and shall run to thee for refuge.
Zie, die u aangrijpt, Krijgt zijn einde van Mij; Die ù overvalt, Zal over ù vallen.
16 Behold, I have created thee, not as the coppersmith blowing coals, and bringing out a vessel [fit] for work; but I have created thee, not for ruin, that [I] should destroy [thee].
Zie, Ik zelf schiep den smid, Die het kolenvuur aanblaast, En naar zijn ambacht er wapens uit smeedt: Maar Ik schiep ook den verdelger, om ze te vernielen.
17 I will not suffer any weapon formed against thee to prosper; and every voice that shall rise up against thee for judgment, thou shalt vanquish them all; and thine adversaries shall be [condemned] thereby. There is an inheritance to them that serve the Lord, and ye shall be righteous before me, saith the Lord.
Neen, geen wapen zal treffen, dat tegen u is gesmeed; Elke tong, die u beschuldigt, zult ge in ‘t ongelijk stellen: Dit is het erfdeel van de dienaars van Jahweh, Hun aanspraak bij Mij: is de godsspraak van Jahweh!
