Esias 37
1 And it came to pass, when king Ezekias heard [it, that] he rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth, and went up to the house of the Lord.
Cuando lo oyó el rey Exequias, rasgó sus vestidos, se cubrió con saco y entró en la Casa de Yahvé.
2 And he sent Heliakim the steward, and Somnas the scribe, and the elders of the priests clothed with sackcloth, to Esaias the son of Amos, the prophet. And they said to him, Thus says Ezekias,
Y envió a Eliaquim, prefecto del palacio, y a Sobná secretario, y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos con saco, al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós,
3 To-day is a day of affliction, and reproach, and rebuke, and anger: for the pangs are come upon the travailing [woman], but she has not strength to bring forth.
al cual dijeron: “Así dice Ezequías: Día de tribulación, de castigo y de oprobio es este; porque los hijos han llegado a punto de nacer, pero falta fuerza para darlos a luz.
4 May the Lord thy God hear the words of Rabsaces, which the king of the Assyrians has sent, to reproach the living God, even to reproach with the words which the Lord thy God has heard: therefore thou shalt pray to thy Lord for these that are left.
Tal vez repare Yahvé, tu Dios, en las palabras de Rabsacés, enviado por su señor, el rey de Asiria, para insultar al Dios vivo, y castigue las palabras que ha oído Yahvé, tu Dios. Interpón tus súplicas por el resto que aún subsiste.”
5 So the servants of king Ezekias came to Esaias.
Fueron entonces los servidores del rey Ezequías a Isaías;
6 And Esaias said to them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not thou afraid at the words which thou hast heard, wherewith the ambassadors of the king of the Assyrians have reproached me,
e Isaías respondió: “Decid esto a vuestro señor: Así dice Yahvé: No te asustes por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales han blasfemado de Mí los siervos del rey de Asiria.
7 Behold, I [will] send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a report, and return to his own country, and he shall fall by the sword in his own land.
Mira, Yo pondré en él un espíritu tal, que al oír cierta noticia se volverá a su país, y le haré caer a espada en su misma tierra.”
8 So Rabsaces returned, and found the king of the Assyrians besieging Lobna: for he had heard that he had departed from Lachis.
Entretanto Rabsacés se marchó, y halló al rey de Asiria atacando a Libná; pues supo que (el rey) se había retirado de Laquís,
9 And Tharaca king of the Ethiopians went forth to attack him. And when he heard it, he turned aside, and sent messengers to Ezekias, saying,
donde recibió una noticia respecto de Tirhaca, rey de Etiopía (que decía): “Ha salido (Tirhaca) para hacerte la guerra.” Al oír esto envió mensajeros a Ezequías, diciendo:
10 Thus shall ye say to Ezekias king of Judea, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians.
“Hablad a Ezequías, rey de Judá de esta manera: No te engañe tu Dios, en quien confías, diciendo: Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.
11 Hast thou not heard what the kings of the Assyrians have done, how they have destroyed the whole earth? and shalt thou be delivered?
He aquí que oíste lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria a todos los países, cómo los destruyeron completamente; ¿y tú crees poder salvarte?
12 Have the gods of the nations which my fathers destroyed delivered them, both Gozan, and Charrhan, and Rapheth, which are in the land of Theemath?
¿Salvaron acaso sus dioses a las naciones que destruyeron mis padres, a Gozan, Harán, Résef y los hijos de Edén, que vivían en Talasar?
13 Where are the kings of Emath? and where [is the king of] Arphath? and where [is the king] of the city of Eppharuaim, [and of] Anagugana?
¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, y el rey de Arpad, y el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hená y de Iva?”
14 And Ezekias received the letter from the messengers, and read it, and went up to the house of the Lord, and opened it before the Lord.
Recibió Ezequías esta carta de manos de los mensajeros, y luego de leerla subió a la Casa de Yahvé, donde la desplegó delante de Yahvé.
15 And Ezekias prayed to the Lord, saying,
E imploró Ezequías a Yahvé con estas palabras:
16 O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, who sittest upon the cherubs, thou alone art the God of every kingdom of the world: thou hast made heaven and earth.
“Oh Yahvé de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que habitas sobre los querubines, Tú eres el solo Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra; Tú has hecho el cielo y la tierra.
17 Incline thine ear, O Lord, hearken, O Lord; open thine eyes, O Lord, look, O Lord: and behold the words of Sennacherim, which he has sent to reproach the living God.
Inclina, oh Yahvé, tus oídos y oye; abre, oh Yahvé, tus ojos y mira; y repara en todas las palabras que Senaquerib ha enviado para blasfemar contra el Dios vivo.
18 For of a truth, Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have laid waste the whole world, and the countries thereof,
Es verdad, oh Yahvé, que los reyes de Asiria devastaron todas las naciones y sus países,
19 and have cast their idols into the fire: for, they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; and they have cast them away.
y que arrojaron sus dioses al fuego, porque no eran dioses, sino hechura de mano de hombres, madera y piedra, y así los pudieron destruir.
20 But now, O Lord our God, deliver us from his hands, that every kingdom of the earth may know that thou art God alone.
Sálvanos ahora, oh Yahvé, Dios nuestro, de su poder; y conozcan todos los reinos de la tierra que Tú solo eres el Señor.”
21 And Esaias the son of Amos was sent to Ezekias, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, I have heard thy prayer to me concerning Sennacherim king of the Assyrians.
Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amós, envió a decir a Ezequías: “Merced a tu oración respecto de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, Yahvé, Dios de Israel, ha hablado,
22 This is the word which God has spoken concerning him; The virgin daughter of Sion has despised thee, and mocked thee; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at thee.
y he aquí el oráculo que Yahvé ha pronunciado contra él: Te desprecia, se ríe de ti la virgen, hija de Sión, detrás de ti menea su cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.
23 Whom hast thou reproached and provoked? and against whom hast thou lifted up thy voice? and hast thou not lifted up thine eyes on high against the Holy One of Israel?
¿A quién has insultado y ultrajado? ¿Contra quién has alzado la voz y levantado en alto tus ojos? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!
24 For thou hast reproached the Lord by messengers; for thou hast said, With the multitude of chariots have I ascended to the height of mountains, and to the sides of Libanus; and I have cropped the height of his cedars and the beauty of his cypresses; and I entered into the height of the forest region:
Por medio de tus siervos has insultado al Señor, pues dijiste: «Con mis numerosos carros subí a la cumbre de los montes, hasta los últimos rincones del Líbano, corté sus empinados cedros, y los más escogidos de sus abetos; llegué a su más alta cima, al más denso de sus bosques.
25 and I have made a bridge, and dried up the waters, and every pool of water.
He cavado y bebido agua, y he secado con las plantas de mis pies todos los ríos de Egipto.»
26 Hast thou not heard of these things which I did of old? I appointed [them] from ancient times; but now have I manifested [my purpose] of desolating nations in [their] strong holds, and them that dwell in strong cities.
¿No has oído tú que desde antiguo dispuse Yo estas cosas? En tiempos remotos las he trazado, y ahora las estoy ejecutando: tú tienes que causar desolaciones, haciendo de ciudades fortificadas montones de ruinas.
27 I weakened [their] hands, and they withered; and they became as dry grass on the house-tops, and as grass.
Sus habitantes no tienen fuerza, están amedrentados y despavoridos; son como la hierba del campo y la verdura tierna, como la grama de los tejados, y como los campos secos antes de la cosecha.
28 But now I know thy rest, and thy going out, and thy coming in.
Yo sé dónde te asientas, Yo conozco tu salida y tu entrada, y también tu furor contra Mí.
29 And thy wrath wherewith thou hast been enraged, and thy rancour has come up to me; therefore I will put a hook in thy nose, and a bit in thy lips, and will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
A causa de tu furor contra Mí, y por tu arrogancia que ha llegado a mis oídos, pondré mi anillo en tu nariz, y mi freno en tus labios, y te haré retornar por el camino por donde viniste.
30 And this shall be a sign to thee, Eat this year what thou hast sown; and the second year that which is left: and the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
Y esta será para ti la señal: Este año comeréis lo que naciere de los granos caídos, al año segundo lo que creciere sin sembrar; más al tercer año, sembrad y segad, plantad viñas y comed sus frutos.
31 And they that are left in Judea shall take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
El resto que se salvare de la casa de Judá, echará de nuevo raíces hacia abajo, y llevará fruto por arriba.
32 for out of Jerusalem there shall be a remnant, and the saved ones out of mount Sion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.
Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un resto, y del monte Sión algunos escapados. Esto hará el celo de Yahvé de los ejércitos.
33 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of the Assyrians, He shall not enter into this city, nor cast a weapon against it, nor bring a shield against it, nor make a rampart round it.
Por tanto, esto dice Yahvé del rey de Asiria: “No entrará en esta ciudad, ni disparará allí saeta: no avanzará contra ella con escudo, ni la rodeará de baluartes.
34 But by the way by which he came, by it shall he return, and shall not enter into this city: thus saith the Lord.
Por el camino que vino se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad.” Oráculo de Yahvé.
35 I will protect this city to save it for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
Yo protegeré esta ciudad para salvarla, por mi propia causa, y por amor a mi siervo David.”
36 And the angel of the Lord went forth, and slew out of the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand: and they arose in the morning and found all [these] bodies dead.
Y salió el ángel de Yahvé, e hirió en el campamento de los asirios ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres. Y a la hora de levantarse, al amanecer, he aquí que todos ellos eran cadáveres.
37 And Sennacherim king of the Assyrians turned and departed, and dwelt in Nineve.
Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, levantó el campamento, se puso en marcha y se volvió a Nínive, donde habitó.
38 And while he was worshipping Nasarach his country's god in the house, Adramelech and Sarasar his sons smote him with swords; and they escaped into Armenia: and Asordan his son reigned in his stead.
Y aconteció que mientras adoraba en la casa de Nesroc, dios suyo, Adramélec y Sarasar, sus hijos, le mataron a espada. Escaparon ellos al país de Ararat, y le sucedió en el reino su hijo Asarhaddón.
