< Exodus 40 >

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
2 On the first day of the first month, at the new moon, thou shalt set up the tabernacle of witness,
“On the first day of the first month Nissan ·Miracles (in Aramaic), 1· you shall raise up the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting.
3 and thou shalt place [in it] the ark of the testimony, and shalt cover the ark with the veil,
You shall put the ark of the testimony in it, and you shall screen the ark with the veil.
4 and thou shalt bring in the table and shalt set forth that which is to be set forth on it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick and place its lamps on it.
You shall bring in the table, and set in order the things that are on it. You shall bring in the menorah ·lamp·, and light its menorah ·lamp· candles.
5 And thou shalt place the golden altar, to burn incense before the ark; and thou shalt put a covering of a veil on the door of the tabernacle of witness.
You shall set the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the screen of the door to the tabernacle.
6 And thou shalt put the altar of burnt-offerings by the doors of the tabernacle of witness, and thou shalt set up the tabernacle round about, and thou shalt hallow all that belongs to it round about.
“You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting.
7
You shall set the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and shall put water therein.
8
You shall set up the court around it, and hang up the screen of the gate of the court.
9 And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and shalt anoint the tabernacle, and all things in it; and shalt sanctify it, and all its furniture, and it shall be holy.
“You shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is in it, and shall make it holy, and all its furniture: and it will be holy.
10 And thou shalt anoint the altar of burnt-offerings, and all its furniture; and thou shalt hallow the altar, and the altar shall be most holy.
You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering, with all its utensils, and sanctify the altar: and the altar will be most holy.
You shall anoint the basin and its base, and sanctify it.
12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the doors of the tabernacle of witness, and thou shalt wash them with water.
“You shall bring Aaron [Light-bringer] and his sons to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and shall wash them with water.
13 And thou shalt put on Aaron the holy garments, and thou shalt anoint him, and thou shalt sanctify him, and he shall minister to me as priest.
You shall put on Aaron [Light-bringer] the holy garments; and you shall anoint him, and sanctify him, that he may minister to me in the priest’s office.
14 And thou shalt bring up his sons, and shalt put garments on them.
You shall bring his sons, and put coats on them.
15 And thou shalt anoint them as thou didst anoint their father, and they shall minister to me as priests; and it shall be that they shall have an everlasting anointing of priesthood, throughout their generations.
You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to me in the priest’s office. Their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.”
16 And Moses did all things whatsoever the Lord commanded him, so did he.
Moses [Drawn out] did so. According to all that Adonai enjoined him, so he did.
17 And it came to pass in the first month, in the second year after their going forth out of Egypt, at the new moon, that the tabernacle was set up.
In the first month Nissan ·Miracles (in Aramaic), 1· in the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was raised up.
18 And Moses set up the tabernacle, and put on the chapiters, and put the bars into their places, and set up the posts.
Moses [Drawn out] raised up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and raised up its pillars.
19 And he stretched out the curtains over the tabernacle, and put the veil of the tabernacle on it above as the Lord commanded Moses.
He spread the covering over the tent, and put the roof of the tabernacle above on it, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
20 And he took the testimonies, and put them into the ark; and he put the staves by the sides of the ark.
He took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the poles on the ark, and put the mercy seat above on the ark.
21 And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and put on [it] the covering of the veil, and covered the ark of the testimony, as the Lord commanded Moses.
He brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
22 And he put the table in the tabernacle of witness, on the north side without the veil of the tabernacle.
He put the table in the Tent of Meeting, on the side of the tabernacle northward, outside of the veil.
23 And he put on it the shewbread before the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.
He set the bread in order on it before Adonai, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
24 And he put the candlestick into the tabernacle of witness, on the side of the tabernacle toward the south.
He put the menorah ·lamp· in the Tent of Meeting, opposite the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.
25 And he put on it its lamps before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
He lit the menorah ·lamp· candles before Adonai, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
26 And he put the golden altar in the tabernacle of witness before the veil;
He put the golden altar in the Tent of Meeting before the veil;
27 and he burnt on it incense of composition, as the Lord commanded Moses.
and he burned incense of sweet spices on it, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
He put up the screen of the door to the tabernacle.
29 And he put the altar of the burnt-offerings by the doors of the tabernacle.
He set the altar of burnt offering at the door of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
He set the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water therein, with which to wash.
31 And he set up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar; and Moses accomplished all the works.
Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and his sons washed their hands and their feet there.
When they went into the Tent of Meeting, and when they came near to the altar, they washed, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
He raised up the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses [Drawn out] finished the work.
34 And the cloud covered the tabernacle of witness, and the tabernacle was filled with the glory of the Lord.
Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the kavod Yahweh ·weighty glory of He sustains breathing· filled the tabernacle.
35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tabernacle of testimony, because the cloud overshadowed it, and the tabernacle was filled with the glory of the Lord.
Moses [Drawn out] was not able to enter into the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud stayed on it, and the kavod Yahweh ·weighty glory of He sustains breathing· filled the tabernacle.
36 And when the cloud went up from the tabernacle, the children of Israel prepared to depart with their baggage.
When the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel [God prevails] went onward, throughout all their journeys;
37 And if the cloud went not up, they did not prepare to depart, till the day when the cloud went up.
but if the cloud was not taken up, then they didn’t travel until the day that it was taken up.
38 For a cloud was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night before all Israel, in all their journeyings.
For the cloud of Adonai was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel [God prevails], throughout all their journeys.
