Exodus 24

1 And to Moses he said, Go up to the Lord, thou and Aaron and Nadab and Abiud, and seventy of the elders of Israel: and they shall worship the Lord from a distance.

Dieu dit aussi à Moïse: Monte vers le Seigneur, toi et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et les soixante dix anciens d’Israël, et vous adorerez de loin.

2 And Moses alone shall draw nigh to God; and they shall not draw nigh, and the people shall not come up with them.

Et Moïse seul montera vers le Seigneur, et eux ne s’approcheront pas, et le peuple ne montera pas avec lui.

3 And Moses went in and related to the people all the words of God and the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, saying, All the words which the Lord has spoken, we will do and be obedient.

Moïse vint donc et raconta au peuple toutes les paroles du Seigneur et ses ordonnances, et tout le peuple répondit d’une seule voix: Nous accomplirons toutes les paroles que le Seigneur a dites.

4 And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and [set up] twelve stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

Or Moïse écrivit tous les discours du Seigneur, et le matin, se levant, il bâtit un autel au pied de la montagne et douze monuments selon les douze tribus d’Israël.

5 And he sent forth the young men of the children of Israel, and they offered whole burnt-offerings, and they sacrificed young calves as a peace-offering to God.

Et il envoya les jeunes gens d’entre les enfants d’Israël, et ils offrirent des holocaustes, et ils immolèrent des victimes pacifiques au Seigneur, des veaux.

6 And Moses took half the blood and poured it into bowls, and half the blood he poured out upon the altar.

C’est pourquoi Moïse prit la moitié du sang et la mit dans des coupes; mais la partie qui restait, il la répandit sur l’autel.

7 And he took the book of the covenant and read it in the ears of the people, and they said, All things whatsoever the Lord has spoken we will do and hearken therein.

Prenant ensuite le livre de l’alliance, il lut, le peuple écoutant, lequel dit: Tout ce que le Seigneur a dit, nous le ferons, et nous serons obéissants.

8 And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it upon the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.

Or Moïse ayant pris le sang, le répandit sur le peuple, et dit: Voici le sang de l’alliance que le Seigneur a faite avec vous selon toutes ces paroles.

9 And Moses went up, and Aaron, and Nadab and Abiud, and seventy of the elders of Israel.

Alors montèrent, Moïse et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et les soixante-dix anciens d’israël;

10 And they saw the place where the God of Israel stood; and under his feet was as it were a work of sapphire slabs, and as it were the appearance of the firmament of heaven in its purity.

Et ils virent le Dieu d’Israël, et sous ses pieds comme un ouvrage de pierre de saphir, et comme le ciel, lorsqu’il est serein.

11 And of the chosen ones of Israel there was not even one missing, and they appeared in the place of God, and did eat and drink.

Et Dieu ne lança pas sa main sur ceux des enfants d’Israël qui s’étaient retirés au loin; et ils virent Dieu, puis ils mangèrent et ils burent.

12 And the Lord said to Moses, Come up to me into the mountain, and be there; and I will give thee the tables of stone, the law and the commandments, which I have written to give them laws.

Or le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Monte vers moi sur la montagne, et sois là: je te donnerai les tables de pierre, et la loi et les commandements que j’ai écrits, afin que tu les enseignes.

13 And Moses rose up and Joshua his attendant, and they went up into the mount of God.

Moïse et Josué son serviteur se levèrent; et Moïse montant sur la montagne de Dieu,

14 And to the elders they said, Rest there till we return to you; and behold, Aaron and Or are with you: if any man have a cause to be tried, let them go to them.

Dit aux anciens; Attendez ici jusqu’à ce que nous retournions à vous. Vous avez Aaron et Hur avec vous; s’il naît quelque question, vous leur en ferez le rapport.

15 And Moses and Joshua went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

Et lorsque Moïse fut monté, la nuée couvrit la montagne.

16 And the glory of God came down upon the mount Sina, and the cloud covered it six days; and the Lord called Moses on the seventh day out of the midst of the cloud.

Et la gloire du Seigneur reposa sur Sinaï, le couvrant de la nuée pendant six jours; mais au septième jour il appela Moïse du milieu de l’obscurité.

17 And the appearance of the glory of the Lord was as burning fire on the top of the mountain, before the children of Israel.

Or l’aspect de la gloire du Seigneur était comme un feu ardent sur le sommet de la montagne, en la présence des enfants d’Israël.

18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and went up to the mountain, and was there in the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Et Moïse étant entré au milieu de la nuée, monta sur la montagne, et il fut là quarante jours et quarante nuits.
