Exodus 13

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:

2 Sanctify to me every first-born, first produced, opening every womb among the children of Israel both of man and beast: it is mine.

Consacre-moi tout premier-né, tout être qui aura ouvert des entrailles maternelles parmi les fils de mon peuple, depuis l'homme jusqu'aux bestiaux; il est à moi.

3 And Moses said to the people, Remember this day, in which ye came forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, for with a strong hand the Lord brought you forth thence; and leaven shall not be eaten.

Moïse dit donc au peuple: Souvenez-vous de ce jour où vous êtes sortis de la terre d'Égypte et de la maison de servitude, d'où le Seigneur nous a tirés par sa main puissante: ce jour-là vous ne mangerez pas de levain

4 For on this day ye go forth in the month of new [corn].

Vous partez aujourd'hui dans la lune des nouveaux blés.

5 And it shall come to pass when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land of the Chananites, and the Chettites, and Amorites, and Evites, and Jebusites, and Gergesites, and Pherezites, which he sware to thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt perform this service in this month.

Et lorsque le Seigneur vous aura conduits en la terre des Chananéens, des Hettéens, des Amorrhéens, des Évéens, des Jébuséens, des Gergéséens et des Phérézéens, terre qu'il a promis à vos pères de vous donner, terre où coulent le lait et le miel, vous observerez en cette lune cette loi religieuse.

6 Six days ye shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day is a feast to the Lord.

Pendant six jours vous mangerez des azymes; le septième jour, c'est la fête du Seigneur.

7 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; nothing leavened shall be seen with thee, neither shalt thou have leaven in all thy borders.

Vous mangerez des azymes sept jours; on ne verra pas de pain levé, vous n'aurez pas de levain en tout votre territoire.

8 And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying, Therefore the Lord dealt thus with me, as I was going out of Egypt.

En ce jour-là, tu instruiras ton fils, disant: C'est à cause de ce qu'a fait pour moi le Seigneur lorsque nous sommes sortis d'Égypte.

9 And it shall be to thee a sign upon thy hand and a memorial before thine eyes, that the law of the Lord may be in thy mouth, for with a strong hand the Lord God brought thee out of Egypt.

Et ce sera pour toi un signe, attaché à ta main, un mémorial devant tes yeux, afin que la loi du Seigneur soit sur tes lèvres; car c'est par une main puissante que le Seigneur t'a tiré de l'Égypte.

10 And preserve ye this law according to the times of the seasons, from year to year.

Et, dans la suite des jours, vous observerez cette loi au temps marqué.

11 And it shall come to pass when the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land of the Chananites, as he sware to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,

Lorsque le Seigneur ton Dieu t'aura introduit en la terre des Chananéens, qu'il a promise à tes pères, et qu'il te donnera,

12 that thou shalt set apart every [offspring] opening the womb, the males to the Lord, every one that opens the womb out of the herds or among thy cattle, as many as thou shalt have: thou shalt sanctify the males to the Lord.

Tu mettras à part, pour le Seigneur, tout mâle ayant ouvert les entrailles de sa mère; tu consacreras au Seigneur, parmi le bétail et parmi les menus troupeaux, tout mâle qui aura ouvert les entrailles de sa mère, parmi tout ce qui naîtra, tu consacreras ainsi les mâles au Seigneur.

13 Every [offspring] opening the womb of the ass thou shalt change for a sheep; and if thou wilt not change it, thou shalt redeem it: every first-born of man of thy sons shalt thou redeem.

En échange de tout ânon, ayant ouvert les entrailles de l'ânesse, tu pourras donner une brebis; si tu ne l'échanges, tu en paieras la rançon; tu paieras la rançon. de tout premier-né de tes fils.

14 And if thy son should ask thee hereafter, saying, What is this? then thou shalt say to him, With a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Et lorsque ton fils t'interrogera sur ces choses, disant: Pourquoi cela? Dis-lui: Parce que le Seigneur, par sa main puissante, nous a tirés de la terre d'Égypte et de la maison de servitude,

15 And when Pharao hardened [his heart so as not] to send us away, he slew every first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of beast; therefore do I sacrifice every [offspring] that opens the womb, the males to the Lord, and every first-born of my sons I will redeem.

Et que, quand le Pharaon s'est endurci à ne point nous congédier, il a fait périr tout premier-né en la terre d'Égypte, depuis le premier-né des hommes jusqu'au premier-né des bestiaux. Voilà pourquoi je sacrifie au Seigneur toute tête de bétail qui a ouvert les entrailles de sa mère; et pourquoi je rachèterai tout premier-né de mes fils.

16 And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand, and immovable before thine eyes, for with a strong hand the Lord brought thee out of Egypt.

Ce sera là un signe attaché à ta main, et un mémorial devant tes yeux; car c'est par une main puissante que le Seigneur t'a tiré de l'Égypte.

17 And when Pharao sent forth the people, God led them not by the way of the land of the Phylistines, because it was near; for God said, Lest at any time the people repent when they see war, and return to Egypt.

Or, lorsque le Pharaon eut congédié le peuple, Dieu ne montra pas aux fils d'Israël la route qui passe par la terre des Philistins, quoique ce fût la plus courte. Car, dit le Seigneur, prenons garde que le peuple ne se repente, en prévoyant des combats, et qu'il ne retourne en Égypte.

18 And God led the people round by the way to the wilderness, to the Red Sea: and in the fifth generation the children of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt.

Dieu lui fit faire un détour par le chemin qui traverse le désert jusqu'à la mer Rouge. Ce fut la cinquième génération des fils d'Israël qui sortit de la terre d'Égypte.

19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had solemnly adjured the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones hence with you.

Moïse prit avec lui les ossements de Joseph: car celui-ci avait adjuré sous serment les fils d'Israël, et il avait dit: Le Seigneur vous visitera, et vous emporterez d'ici mes ossements avec vous.

20 And the children of Israel departed from Socchoth, and encamped in Othom by the wilderness.

Les fils d'Israël allèrent de Soccoth camper à Othom vers le désert.

21 And God led them, in the day by a pillar of cloud, to show them the way, and in the night by a pillar of fire.

Dieu les guidait, le jour, par une colonne de nuée pour leur montrer la route; la nuit, par une colonne de feu.

22 And the pillar of cloud failed not by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, before all the people.

Jamais, devant le peuple entier, la colonne de nuée ne manqua pendant le jour, ni la colonne de feu pendant la nuit.
