Esther 2

1 And after this the king’s anger was pacified, and he no more mentioned Astin, bearing in mind what she had said, and how he had condemned her.

۱ بعد از این وقایع، چون غضب اخشورش پادشاه فرو نشست، وشتی و آنچه را که او کرده بود و حکمی که درباره او صادر شده بود، به یاد آورد.

2 Then the servants of the king said, Let there be sought for the king chaste [and] beautiful young virgins.

۲ و ملازمان پادشاه که او را خدمت می‌کردند، گفتند که «دختران باکره نیکو منظربرای پادشاه بطلبند.

3 And let the king appoint local governors in all the provinces of his kingdom, and let them select fair [and] chaste young damsels [and bring them] to the city Susa, into the women’s apartment, and let them be consigned to the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women; and let things for purification and other attendance be given [to them].

۳ و پادشاه در همه ولایتهای مملکت خود وکلا بگمارد که همه دختران باکره نیکو منظر را به دارالسلطنه شوشن در خانه زنان زیر دست هیجای که خواجه‌سرای پادشاه ومستحفظ زنان می‌باشد، جمع کنند و به ایشان اسباب طهارت داده شود.

4 And let the woman who shall please the king be queen instead of Astin. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

۴ و دختری که به نظرپادشاه پسند آید، در جای وشتی ملکه بشود.» پس این سخن در نظر پادشاه پسند آمد و همچنین عمل نمود.

5 Now there was a Jew in the city Susa, and his name was Mardochæus, the [son] of Jairus, [the son] of Semeias, [the son] of Cisæus, of the tribe of Benjamin;

۵ شخصی یهودی در دارالسلطنه شوشن بودکه به مردخای بن یائیر ابن شمعی ابن قیس بنیامینی مسمی بود.

6 who had been brought a prisoner from Jerusalem, which Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried into captivity.

۶ و او از اورشلیم جلای وطن شده بود، با اسیرانی که همراه یکنیا پادشاه یهودا جلای وطن شده بودند که نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل ایشان را به اسیری آورده بود.

7 And he had a foster-child, daughter of Aminadab his father’s brother, and her name [was] Esther; and when her parents were dead, he brought her up for a wife for himself: and the damsel was beautiful.

۷ و او هدسه، یعنی استر، دختر عموی خود را تربیت می‌نمودچونکه وی را پدر و مادر نبود و آن دختر، خوب صورت و نیکومنظر بود و بعد از وفات پدر ومادرش، مردخای وی را به‌جای دختر خودگرفت.

8 And because the king’s ordinance was published, many damsels were gathered to the city Susa under the hand of Gai; and Esther was brought to Gai the keeper of the women.

۸ پس چون امر و فرمان پادشاه شایع گردید ودختران بسیار در دارالسلطنه شوشن زیر دست هیجای جمع شدند، استر را نیز به خانه پادشاه، زیر دست هیجای که مستحفظ زنان بود آوردند.

9 And the damsel pleased him, and she found favour in his sight; and he hasted to give her the things for purification, and her portion, and the seven maidens appointed her out of the palace: and he treated her and her maidens well in the women’s apartment.

۹ و آن دختر به نظر او پسند آمده، در حضورش التفات یافت. پس به زودی، اسباب طهارت وتحفه هایش را به وی داد و نیز هفت کنیز را که از خانه پادشاه برگزیده شده بودند که به وی داده شوند و او را با کنیزانش به بهترین خانه زنان نقل کرد.

10 But Esther discovered not her family nor her kindred: for Mardochæus had charged her not to tell.

۱۰ و استر، قومی و خویشاوندی خود رافاش نکرد، زیرا که مردخای او را امر فرموده بودکه نکند.

11 But Mardochæus used to walk every day by the women’s court, to see what would become of Esther.

۱۱ و مردخای روز به روز پیش صحن خانه زنان گردش می‌کرد تا از احوال استر و ازآنچه به وی واقع شود، اطلاع یابد.

12 Now this was the time for a virgin to go in to the king, when she should have fulfilled twelve months; for so are the days of purification fulfilled, six months while they are anointing themselves with oil of myrrh, and six months with spices and women’s purifications.

۱۲ و چون نوبه هر دختر می‌رسید که نزداخشورش پادشاه داخل شود، یعنی بعد از آنکه آنچه را که برای زنان مرسوم بود که در مدت دوازده ماه کرده شود چونکه ایام تطهیر ایشان بدین منوال تمام می‌شد، یعنی شش ماه به روغن مر و شش ماه به عطریات و اسباب تطهیر زنان.

13 And then [the damsel] goes in to the king; and [the officer] to whomsoever he shall give the command, will bring her to come in with him from the women’s apartment to the king’s chamber.

۱۳ آنگاه آن دختر بدین طور نزد پادشاه داخل می‌شد که هر‌چه را می‌خواست به وی می‌دادند تاآن را از خانه زنان به خانه پادشاه با خود ببرد.

14 She enters in the evening, and in the morning she departs to the second women’s apartment, where Gai the king’s chamberlain [is] keeper of the women: and she goes not in to the king again, unless she should be called by name.

۱۴ در وقت شام داخل می‌شد و صبحگاهان به خانه دوم زنان، زیر دست شعشغاز که خواجه‌سرای پادشاه و مستحفظ متعه‌ها بود، برمی گشت و بار دیگر، نزد پادشاه داخل نمی شد، مگر اینکه پادشاه در او رغبت کرده، او را بنام بخواند.

15 And when the time was fulfilled for Esther the daughter of Aminadab the brother of Mardochæus’ father to go in to the king, she neglected nothing which the chamberlain, the women’s keeper, commanded; for Esther found grace in the sight of all that looked upon her.

۱۵ و چون نوبه استر، دختر ابیحایل، عموی مردخای که او را بجای دختر خود گرفته بودرسید که نزد پادشاه داخل شود، چیزی سوای آنچه هیجای، خواجه‌سرای پادشاه و مستحفظزنان گفته بود نخواست و استر در نظر هر‌که او رامی دید، التفات می‌یافت.

16 So Esther went in to king Artaxerxes in the twelfth month, which is Adar, in the seventh year of his reign.

۱۶ پس استر را نزداخشورش پادشاه، به قصر ملوکانه‌اش در ماه دهم که ماه طیبیت باشد، در سال هفتم سلطنت اوآوردند.

17 And the king loved Esther, and she found favour beyond all the [other] virgins: and he put on her the queen’s crown.

۱۷ و پادشاه، استر را از همه زنان زیاده دوست داشت و از همه دوشیزگان، در حضور وی نعمت و التفات زیاده یافت. لهذا تاج ملوکانه را بر سرش گذاشت و او را در جای وشتی ملکه ساخت.

18 And the king made a banquet for all his friends and great men for seven days, and he highly celebrated the marriage of Esther; and he made a release to those who were under his dominion.

۱۸ و پادشاه ضیافت عظیمی یعنی ضیافت استر را برای همه روسا و خادمان خودبرپا نمود و به ولایتها راحت بخشیده، برحسب کرم ملوکانه خود، عطایا ارزانی داشت.

19 But Mardochæus served in the palace.

۱۹ و چون دوشیزگان، بار دیگر جمع شدند، مردخای بر دروازه پادشاه نشسته بود.

20 Now Esther had not discovered her kindred; for so Mardochæus commanded her, to fear God, and perform his commandments, as when she was with him: and Esther changed not her manner of life.

۲۰ و استرهنوز خویشاوندی و قومی خود را بر وفق آنچه مردخای به وی امر فرموده بود فاش نکرده بود، زیرا که استر حکم مردخای را مثل زمانی که نزدوی تربیت می‌یافت بجا می‌آورد.

21 And two chamberlains of the king, the chiefs of the body-guard, were grieved, because Mardochæus was promoted; and they sought to kill king Artaxerxes.

۲۱ در آن ایام، حینی که مردخای در دروازه پادشاه نشسته بود، دونفر از خواجه‌سرایان پادشاه و حافظان آستانه یعنی بغتان و تارش غضبناک شده، خواستند که بر اخشورش پادشاه دست بیندازند.

22 And the matter was discovered to Mardochæus, and he made it known to Esther, and she declared to the king the matter of the conspiracy.

۲۲ و چون مردخای از این امر اطلاع یافت، استر ملکه را خبر داد و استر، پادشاه را اززبان مردخای مخبر ساخت.

23 And the king examined the two chamberlains, and hanged them: and the king gave orders to make a note for a memorial in the royal records of the good offices of Mardochæus, as a commendation.

۲۳ پس این امر راتفحص نموده، صحیح یافتند و هر دوی ایشان رابر دار کشیدند و این قصه در حضور پادشاه، درکتاب تواریخ ایام مرقوم شد.
