Deuteronomy 9
1 Hear, O Israel: Thou goest this day across Jordan to inherit nations greater and stronger than yourselves, cities great and walled up to heaven;
Ouça, Israel! Vocês devem passar por cima do Jordão hoje, entrar para despojar nações maiores e mais poderosas do que vocês, cidades grandes e fortificadas até o céu,
2 a people great and many and tall, the sons of Enac, whom thou knowest, and concerning whom thou hast heard [say], Who can stand before the children of Enac?
um povo grande e alto, os filhos dos Anakim, que vocês conhecem, e de quem vocês ouviram dizer: “Quem pode estar diante dos filhos de Anak?
3 And thou shalt know to-day, that the Lord thy God he shall go before thy face: he is a consuming fire; he shall destroy them, and he shall turn them back before thee, and shall destroy them quickly, as the Lord said to thee.
Saiba portanto hoje que Yahweh seu Deus é aquele que se apresenta diante de você como um fogo devorador. Ele os destruirá e os fará cair diante de vocês. Portanto, vocês os expulsarão e os farão perecer rapidamente, como Iavé falou com vocês.
4 Speak not in thine heart, when the Lord thy God has destroyed these nations before thy face, saying, For my righteousness the Lord brought me in to inherit this good land.
Não diga em seu coração, depois que Javé, seu Deus, os expulsou de diante de você: “Porque minha justiça Javé me trouxe para possuir esta terra;” porque Javé os expulsa de diante de você por causa da maldade destas nações.
5 Not for thy righteousness, nor for the holiness of thy heart, dost thou go in to inherit their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord will destroy them from before thee, and that he may establish the covenant, which the Lord sware to our fathers, to Abraam, and to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Não por vossa justiça ou pela retidão de vosso coração entrais para possuir sua terra; mas pela maldade destas nações, Javé, vosso Deus, as expulsa de diante de vós, e para estabelecer a palavra que Javé jurou a vossos pais, a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó.
6 And thou shalt know to-day, that [it is] not for thy righteousnesses the Lord thy God gives thee this good land to inherit, for thou art a stiff-necked people.
Saiba portanto que Javé seu Deus não lhe dá esta boa terra para possuir por sua justiça, pois você é um povo de pescoço duro.
7 Remember, forget not, how much thou provokedst the Lord thy God in the wilderness: from the day that ye came forth out of Egypt, even till ye came into this place, ye continued to be disobedient toward the Lord.
Lembre-se, e não se esqueça de como você provocou a ira de Javé, seu Deus, no deserto. Desde o dia em que você deixou a terra do Egito até chegar a este lugar, você tem sido rebelde contra Iavé.
8 Also in Choreb ye provoked the Lord, and the Lord was angry with you to destroy you;
Também em Horeb você provocou a ira de Iavé, e Iavé ficou furioso com você para destruí-lo.
9 when I went up into the mountain to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant, which the Lord made with you, and I was in the mountain forty days and forty nights, I ate no bread and drank no water.
Quando subi à montanha para receber as tábuas de pedra, mesmo as tábuas do pacto que Javé fez com você, então fiquei na montanha por quarenta dias e quarenta noites. Eu não comi pão nem bebi água.
10 And the Lord gave me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God, and on them there had been written all the words which the Lord spoke to you in the mountain in the day of the assembly.
Yahweh me entregou as duas tábuas de pedra escritas com o dedo de Deus. Nelas estavam todas as palavras que Javé falou com você na montanha, fora do meio do fogo no dia da assembléia.
11 And it came to pass after forty days and forty nights, the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant.
Aconteceu ao final de quarenta dias e quarenta noites que Yahweh me deu as duas tábuas de pedra, até mesmo as tábuas do convênio.
12 And the Lord said to me, Arise, go down quickly from hence, for thy people whom thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt have transgressed; they have gone aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them, and have made themselves a molten image.
Yahweh me disse: “Levante-se, desça rapidamente daqui; pois seu povo, que você trouxe do Egito, se corrompeu. Eles rapidamente se afastaram do caminho que eu lhes ordenei”. Eles fizeram uma imagem derretida para si mesmos”.
13 And the Lord spoke to me, saying, I have spoken to thee once and again, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people.
Além disso Yahweh falou comigo, dizendo: “Eu vi essas pessoas, e eis que são um povo de pescoço duro.
14 And now suffer me utterly to destroy them, and I will blot out their name from under heaven, and will make of thee a nation great and strong, and more numerous than this.
Deixe-me em paz, para que eu possa destruí-los e apagar seu nome de debaixo do céu; e farei de você uma nação mais poderosa e maior do que eles”.
15 And I turned and went down from the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to heaven; and the two tables of the testimonies [were] in my two hands.
Então eu me virei e desci da montanha, e a montanha estava queimando com fogo. As duas tábuas do convênio estavam em minhas duas mãos.
16 And when I saw that ye had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made to yourselves a molten image, and had gone astray out of the way, which the Lord commanded you to keep;
Eu olhei, e eis que você tinha pecado contra Javé, seu Deus. Vocês tinham feito de vocês um bezerro moldado. Rapidamente vocês se afastaram do caminho que Iavé lhes havia ordenado.
17 then I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before you.
Eu peguei as duas pastilhas, atirei-as de minhas duas mãos e as quebrei diante de seus olhos.
18 And I made my petition before the Lord as also at the first forty days and forty nights: I ate no bread and drank no water, on account of all your sins which ye sinned in doing evil before the Lord God to provoke him.
Eu caí diante de Iavé, como no primeiro, quarenta dias e quarenta noites. Eu não comi pão nem bebi água, por causa de todo seu pecado que cometeu, ao fazer o que era mau aos olhos de Javé, para provocá-lo à raiva.
19 And I was greatly terrified because of the wrath and anger, because the Lord was provoked with you utterly to destroy you; yet the Lord hearkened to me at this time also.
Pois eu tinha medo da raiva e do desgosto ardente com que Iavé estava zangado contra você para destruí-lo. Mas Javé também me ouviu daquela vez.
20 And he was angry with Aaron to destroy him utterly, and I prayed for Aaron also at that time.
Yahweh estava zangado o suficiente com Aaron para destruí-lo. Eu rezei por Aaron também ao mesmo tempo.
21 And your sin which ye had made, [even] the calf, I took, and burnt it with fire, and pounded it and ground it down till it became fine; and it became like dust, and I cast the dust into the brook that descended from the mountain.
Peguei seu pecado, o bezerro que você tinha feito, e o queimei com fogo, e o esmaguei, moendo-o muito pequeno, até ficar tão fino quanto o pó. Joguei seu pó no riacho que descia da montanha.
22 Also in the burning, and in the temptation, and at the graves of lust, ye provoked the Lord.
Em Taberah, em Massah, e em Kibroth Hattaavah, você provocou a ira de Javé.
23 And when the Lord sent you forth from Cades Barne, saying, Go up and inherit the land which I give to you, then ye disobeyed the word of the Lord your God, and believed him not, and hearkened not to his voice.
Quando Javé o enviou de Kadesh Barnea, dizendo: “Suba e possua a terra que lhe dei”, você se rebelou contra o mandamento de Javé, seu Deus, e não acreditou nele nem ouviu sua voz.
24 Ye were disobedient in the things relating to the Lord from the day in which he became known to you.
Você tem sido rebelde contra Javé desde o dia em que eu o conheci.
25 And I prayed before the Lord forty days and forty nights, the number that I prayed [before], for the Lord said that he would utterly destroy you.
Então eu caí diante de Iavé nos quarenta dias e quarenta noites em que caí, porque Iavé tinha dito que iria destruí-lo.
26 And I prayed to God, and said, O Lord, King of gods, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, whom thou didst redeem, whom thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt with thy great power, and with thy strong hand, and with thy high arm.
Eu rezei a Javé e disse: “Senhor Javé, não destrua seu povo e sua herança que você resgatou através de sua grandeza, que você tirou do Egito com uma mão poderosa.
27 Remember Abraam, and Isaac, and Jacob thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thyself: look not upon the hardness of heart of this people, and their impieties, and their sins.
Lembre-se de seus servos, Abraão, Isaac e Jacó. Não olhe para a teimosia deste povo, nem para sua maldade, nem para seu pecado,
28 Lest the inhabitants of the land whence thou broughtest us out speak, saying, Because the Lord could not bring them into the land of which he spoke to them, and because he hated them, has he brought them forth to slay them in the wilderness.
para que a terra de onde você nos tirou não diga: 'Porque Javé não foi capaz de trazê-los para a terra que lhes prometeu, e porque os odiou, ele os tirou para matá-los no deserto'.
29 And these [are] thy people and thy portion, whom thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt with thy great strength, and with thy mighty hand, and with thy high arm.
Yet eles são seu povo e sua herança, que você trouxe para fora por seu grande poder e por seu braço estendido”.
