Chronicles II 8
1 And it came to pass after twenty years, in which Solomon built the house of the Lord, and his own house,
Or, au bout des vingt ans employés par Salomon à construire la maison du Seigneur et son propre palais,
2 that Solomon rebuilt the cities which Chiram had given to Solomon, and caused the children of Israel to dwell in them.
Salomon fortifia les villes que lui avait cédées Houram, roi de Tyr, et les peupla d’Israélites.
3 And Solomon came to Baesoba, and fortified it.
Puis, Salomon marcha contre Hamat-Çoba et s’en rendit maître.
4 And he built Thoedmor in the wilderness, and all the strong cities which he built in Emath.
Il bâtit le Tadmor du désert ainsi que toutes les villes d’approvisionnement qu’il éleva dans le pays de Hamat.
5 And he built Baethoron the upper, and Baethoron the lower, strong cities, —they had walls, gates, and bars;
Il bâtit le Beth-Horôn supérieur et le Beth-Horôn inférieur, villes fortes munies de murailles, de portes et de verrous,
6 and Balaath, and all the strong cities which Solomon had, and all his chariot cities, and cities of horsemen, and all things that Solomon desired according to his desire of building, in Jerusalem, and in Libanus, and in all his kingdom.
de même Baalat et toutes les autres villes d’approvisionnement de Salomon, toutes les villes de chariots, celles des cavaliers, bref, tout ce qu’il plaisait à Salomon de construire à Jérusalem, au Liban et dans tout le pays soumis à sa domination.
7 [As for] all the people that was left of the Chettites, and the Amorites, and the Pherezites, and the Evites, and the Jebusites, who are not of Israel,
Toute la population survivante des Héthéens, des Amorréens, des Phérézéens, des Hévéens et des Jébuséens, lesquels ne font point partie des enfants d’Israël,
8 but were of the children of them whom the children Israel destroyed not, that were left after them in the land, even them did Solomon make tributaries to this day.
leurs descendants qui étaient restés après eux dans le pays et que les enfants d’Israël n’avaient pas exterminés, Salomon les obligea à payer tribut; ce qu’ils font encore aujourd’hui.
9 But Solomon did not make any of the children of Israel servants in his kingdom; for, behold, [they were] warriors and rulers, and mighty [men], and captains of chariots and horsemen.
Pour les enfants d’Israël, Salomon n’en employa point comme esclaves pour ses travaux; ils étaient seulement ses hommes de guerre, ses fonctionnaires, capitaines, commandants de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.
10 And these are the chiefs of the officers of king Solomon, two hundred and fifty overseeing the work among the people.
Les surveillants en chef du roi Salomon étaient au nombre de deux cent cinquante, chargés de diriger le peuple.
11 And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharao from the city of David to the house which he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the city of David, the king of Israel, for [the place] is holy into which the ark of the Lord has entered.
Quant à la fille de Pharaon, Salomon lui fit quitter la Cité de David pour l’installer dans la demeure qu’il lui avait construite, "car, disait-il, je ne dois pas laisser résider une femme dans les demeures de David, roi d’Israël, devenues sacrées depuis que l’arche du Seigneur y a été transférée".
12 Then Solomon offered up to the Lord whole-burnt-offerings on the altar which he had built to the Lord before the temple,
Dès lors, Salomon offrait des holocaustes au Seigneur, sur l’autel qu’il lui avait élevé devant le portique;
13 according to the daily rate, to offer up [sacrifices] according to the commandments of Moses, on the sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts, three times in the year, at the feast of unleavened bread, and at the feast of weeks, and at the feast of tabernacles.
en se conformant au rite de chaque jour, il les offrait, selon les prescriptions de Moïse, les jours du Sabbat et des néoménies et aux fêtes qui se suivent trois fois par an, à la fête des Azymes, à la fête des Semaines et à la fête des Tabernacles.
14 And he established, according to the order of his father David, the courses of the priests, and [that] according to their public ministrations: and the Levites [were appointed] over their charges, to praise and minister before the priests according to the daily order: and the porters were appointed according to their courses to the different gates: for thus [were] the commandments of David the man of God.
En vertu de la réglementation de son père David, il installa les sections de prêtres dans leur service et les Lévites dans leurs charges, consistant à réciter les cantiques et à faire le service concurremment avec les prêtres, selon le rite de chaque jour; il posta aussi les portiers par escouades à chacune des portes, comme l’avait ordonné David, l’homme de Dieu.
15 They transgressed not the commandments of the king concerning the priests and the Levites with regard to everything else, and with regard to the treasures.
On ne s’écarta en rien des prescriptions du roi David, concernant les prêtres et les Lévites, et notamment les trésors.
16 Now all the work had been prepared from the day when the foundation was laid, until Solomon finished the house of the Lord.
l’œuvre entière de Salomon fut accomplie à ce jour: la fondation de la maison du Seigneur jusqu’à son achèvement. La maison du Seigneur se trouva complète.
17 Then Solomon went to Gasion Gaber, and to Aelath near the sea in the land of Idumea.
Alors Salomon se rendit à Ecion-Ghéber et à Elot, au bord de la mer dans le pays d’Edom.
18 And Chiram sent by the hand of his servants ships, and servants skilled in naval affairs; and they went with the servants of Solomon to Sophira, and brought thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and they came to king Solomon.
Houram lui expédia, par ses serviteurs, des vaisseaux et des matelots experts dans la marine, qui se rendirent avec les serviteurs de Salomon à Ophir, d’où ils emportèrent quatre cent cinquante kikkar d’or, qu’ils remirent au roi Salomon.
