Kings I 3
1 And the child Samuel ministered to the Lord before Heli the priest: and the word of the Lord was precious in those days, there was no distinct vision.
Or l’enfant Samuel servait le Seigneur devant Héli, et la parole du Seigneur était précieuse en ces jours-là; il n’y avait pas de vision manifeste.
2 And it came to pass at that time that Heli was sleeping in his place; and his eyes began to fail, and could not see.
Il arriva donc un certain jour qu’Héli était couché en son lieu (or ses yeux étaient obscurcis, et il ne pouvait pas voir);
3 And the lamp of God [was burning] before it was trimmed, and Samuel slept in the temple, where [was] the ark of God.
Avant que la lampe de Dieu fût éteinte, Samuel dormait dans le temple du Seigneur, où était l’arche de Dieu.
4 And the Lord called, Samuel, Samuel; and he said, Behold, [here am] I.
Et le Seigneur appela Samuel, qui répondant, dit: Me voici.
5 And he ran to Heli, and said, [Here am] I, for thou didst call me: and he said, I did not call thee; return, go to sleep; and he returned and went to sleep.
Alors il courut à Héli et dit: Me voici; car vous m’avez appelé. Héli répondit: Je ne t’ai pas appelé; retourne-t’en, et dors. Et il s’en alla, et il dormit.
6 And the Lord called again, Samuel, Samuel: and he went to Heli the second time, and said, Behold [here am] I, for thou didst call me: and he said, I called thee not; return, go to sleep.
Mais le Seigneur recommença à appeler de nouveau Samuel. Et Samuel, se levant, s’en alla vers Héli et dit: Me voici, parce que vous m’avez appelé. Et Héli répondit: Je ne t’ai pas appelé, mon fils; retourne-t’en et dors.
7 And [it was] before Samuel knew the Lord, and [before] the word of the Lord was revealed to him.
Or, Samuel ne connaissait pas encore le Seigneur, et la parole du Seigneur ne lui avait pas été révélée.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again for the third time: and he arose and went to Heli, and said, Behold, I [am here], for thou didst call me: and Heli perceived that the Lord [had] called the child.
Et le Seigneur recommença, et il appela encore Samuel pour la troisième fois. Et Samuel, se levant, s’en alla vers Héli,
9 And he said, Return, child, go to sleep; and it shall come to pass if he shall call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak for thy servant hears: and Samuel went and lay down in his place.
Et dit: Me voici, parce que vous m’avez appelé. Héli comprit donc que le Seigneur appelait l’enfant, et il dit à Samuel. Va, et dors: et si dans la suite il t’appelle, tu diras: Parlez, Seigneur, parce que votre serviteur écoute. Samuel s’en alla donc et dormit en son lieu.
10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called him as before: and Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant hears.
Et le Seigneur vint, et s’arrêta; puis il appela, comme il avait appelé par deux fois: Samuel, Samuel. Et Samuel répondit: Parlez, Seigneur, parce que votre serviteur écoute.
11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I execute my words in Israel; whoever hears them, both his ears shall tingle.
Alors le Seigneur dit à Samuel: Voici que moi je vais faire entendre une parole dans Israël; et quiconque l’entendra, ses deux oreilles tinteront.
12 In that day I will raise up against Heli all things that I have said against his house; I will begin, and I will make an end.
En ce jour-là, je susciterai contre Héli tout ce que j’ai dit sur sa maison: je commencerai et j’achèverai.
13 And I have told him that I will be avenged on his house perpetually for the iniquities of his sons, because his sons spoke evil against God, and he did not admonish them.
Car je lui ai prédit que je devais juger sa maison à jamais, pour cause d’iniquité, parce qu’il savait que ses fils agissaient indignement, et qu’il ne les a pas corrigés.
14 And [it shall] not [go on] so; I have sworn to the house of Eli, the iniquity of the house of Eli shall not be atoned for with incense or sacrifices for ever.
C’est pour cela que j’ai juré à la maison d’Héli, que l’iniquité de sa maison ne sera jamais expiée par des victimes et par des offrandes.
15 And Samuel slept till morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord; and Samuel feared to tell [Heli] the vision.
Or, Samuel dormit jusqu’au matin, et il ouvrit les portes de la maison du Seigneur. Et Samuel craignait de déclarer la vision à Héli.
16 And Heli said to Samuel, Samuel, [my] son; and he said, Behold, [here am] I.
Héli appela donc Samuel et dit: Samuel, mon fils? Celui-ci répondant, dit: Je suis présent.
17 And he said, What [was] the word that was spoken to thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: may God do these things to thee, and more also, if thou hide from me any thing of all the words that were spoken to thee in thine ears.
Et il l’interrogea: Quel est le discours que t’a tenu le Seigneur? Je te prie de ne point me le céler. Que Dieu te fasse ceci, et qu’il ajoute cela, si tu me caches quelqu’une de toutes les paroles qui t’ont été dites.
18 And Samuel reported all the words, and hid them not from him. And Heli said, He [is] the Lord, he shall do that which is good in his sight.
Samuel lui déclara donc toutes les paroles, et ne les lui cacha pas. Et Héli répondit: Il est le Seigneur; qu’il fasse ce qui est bon à ses yeux.
19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and there did not fall one of his words to the ground.
Or, Samuel grandit, et le Seigneur était avec lui, et nulle de ses paroles ne tomba par terre.
20 And all Israel knew from Dan even to Bersabee, that Samuel [was] faithful as a prophet to the Lord.
Et tout Israël connut depuis Dan jusqu’à Bersabée que Samuel était un fidèle prophète du Seigneur.
21 And the Lord manifested himself again in Selom, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel; and Samuel was accredited to all Israel as a prophet to the Lord from one end of the land to the other: and Heli [was] very old, and his sons kept advancing [in wickedness], and their way [was] evil before the Lord.
Et le Seigneur continua à apparaître à Silo, parce que le Seigneur s’était révélé à Samuel à Silo, selon la parole du Seigneur. Et le discours de Samuel parvint à tout Israël.
