Kings I 23
1 And it was told David, saying, behold, the Philistines war in Keila, and they rob, they trample on the threshing-floors.
“ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ കെയീലയെ ആക്രമിക്കുന്നെന്നും അവർ മെതിക്കളം കവർച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നെന്നും,” ദാവീദിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി.
2 And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said, Go, and thou shalt smite these Philistines, and shalt save Keila.
“ഞാൻ പോയി ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ നേരിടണമോ,” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം യഹോവയോട് അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചു. “ചെന്ന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പൊരുതി കെയീലയെ രക്ഷിക്കുക,” എന്ന് യഹോവ ദാവീദിനോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
3 And the men of David said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judea; and how shall it be if we go to Keila? Shall we go after the spoils of the Philistines?
എന്നാൽ ദാവീദിനോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “ഇവിടെ ഈ യെഹൂദ്യയിൽത്തന്നെ നാം ഭയപ്പെട്ടു കഴിയുന്നു. പിന്നെ നാം കെയീലയിൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യസൈന്യങ്ങൾക്കെതിരേ എങ്ങനെ ചെല്ലും?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
4 And David enquired yet again of the Lord; and the Lord answered him, and said to him, Arise and go down to Keila, for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hands.
അതിനാൽ ദാവീദ് വീണ്ടും യഹോവയോട് അരുളപ്പാട് ചോദിച്ചു. യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “കെയീലയിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുക! ഞാൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ നിന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുതരും!” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
5 So David and his men with him went to Keila, and fought with the Philistines; and they fled from before him, and he carried off their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter, and David rescued the inhabitants of Keila.
അതിനാൽ ദാവീദും കൂടെയുള്ളവരും കെയീലയിലേക്കുചെന്ന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പൊരുതി അവരെ തോൽപ്പിച്ച് അവരുടെ ആടുമാടുകളെ അപഹരിച്ചു. അവർ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർക്കു കനത്ത നാശം വരുത്തുകയും കെയീലയിലെ ജനങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
6 And it came to pass when Abiathar the son of Achimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keila, having and ephod in his hand.
കെയീലയിൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോകുമ്പോൾ അഹീമെലെക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്യാഥാർ തന്റെകൂടെ ഏഫോദും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നിരുന്നു.
7 And it was told Saul that David was come to Keila: and Saul said, God has sold him into my hands, for he is shut up, having entered into a city that has gates and bars.
ദാവീദ് കെയീലയിലേക്കു പോയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ശൗലിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി. “വാതിലുകളും ഓടാമ്പലുകളുമുള്ള ഒരു നഗരത്തിൽ ദാവീദ് സ്വയം വന്ന് അകപ്പെട്ടതുമൂലം ദൈവം അവനെ എന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്നു ശൗൽ പറഞ്ഞു.
8 And Saul charged all the people to go down to war to Keila, to besiege David and his men.
പിന്നീട് ശൗൽ തന്റെ സർവസൈന്യത്തെയും യുദ്ധത്തിനായി വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി. കെയീലയിലേക്കുചെന്ന് ദാവീദിനെയും ആൾക്കാരെയും വളയാൻ അയാൾ അവർക്കു കൽപ്പനകൊടുത്തു.
9 And David knew that Saul spoke openly of mischief against him: and David said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod of the Lord.
ശൗൽ തനിക്കെതിരേ ദുരാലോചന നടത്തുന്നു എന്ന് ദാവീദ് മനസ്സിലാക്കി. “ഏഫോദ് തന്റെ അടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരിക,” അദ്ദേഹം പുരോഹിതനായ അബ്യാഥാരിനോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
10 And David said, Lord God of Israel, thy servant has indeed heard, that Saul seeks to come against Keila to destroy the city on my account.
അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർഥിച്ചു. “ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ശൗൽ കെയീലയിലേക്കു വരുന്നു എന്നും ഞാൻനിമിത്തം ഈ നഗരം നശിപ്പിക്കാൻ ആലോചിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അടിയൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
11 Will [the place] be shut up? And now will Saul come down, as thy servant has heard? Lord God of Israel, tell thy servant.
കെയീലാപൗരന്മാർ എന്നെ ശൗലിന് ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുമോ? അടിയൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ശൗൽ കടന്നുവരുമോ? ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, അവിടത്തെ ദാസന് മറുപടി അരുളണമേ!” “അവൻ വരും” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
12 And the Lord said, It will be shut up.
“കെയീലാപൗരന്മാർ എന്നെയും എന്റെ ആൾക്കാരെയും ശൗലിന് ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുമോ?” എന്നു വീണ്ടും ദാവീദ് ചോദിച്ചു. “അതേ, അവർ അപ്രകാരം ചെയ്യും,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
13 And David arose, and the men with him, in number about four hundred, and they went forth from Keila, and went whithersoever they could go: and it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keila, and he forbore to come.
അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദും കൂടെയുള്ള ഏകദേശം അറുനൂറ് ആളുകളും കെയീലാ വിട്ടുപോന്നു. അവർ തരംപോലെ ഓരോരോ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു നീങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. ദാവീദ് കെയീലയിൽനിന്നും രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു എന്നു ശൗൽ അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അവിടേക്കുള്ള യാത്ര നിർത്തിവെച്ചു.
14 And he dwelt in Maserem in the wilderness, in the narrow [passes]; and dwelt in the wilderness in mount Ziph, in the dry country. And Saul sought him continually, but the Lord delivered him not into his hands.
ദാവീദ് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ സുരക്ഷിതസങ്കേതങ്ങളിലും സീഫ് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ കുന്നുകളിലുമായി താമസിച്ചു. ശൗൽ ദിനംതോറും ദാവീദിനെ തെരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അയാളുടെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചില്ല.
15 And David perceived that Saul went forth to seek David; and David was in the dry mountain in the New Ziph.
ദാവീദ് സീഫ് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ ഹോരേശിൽ ആയിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, തന്റെ ജീവനെത്തേടി ശൗൽ വന്നെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം മനസ്സിലാക്കി.
16 And Jonathan son of Saul rose, and went to David to Caene, and strengthened his hands in the Lord.
ശൗലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാൻ ഹോരേശിൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുത്തെത്തി. അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ദൈവത്തിൽ വിശ്വാസമർപ്പിക്കാൻ പറഞ്ഞ് ധൈര്യപ്പെടുത്തി.
17 And he said to him, Fear not, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be second to thee; and Saul my father knows it.
യോനാഥാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ട; എന്റെ പിതാവായ ശൗൽ അങ്ങയുടെമേൽ കൈവെക്കുകയില്ല. അങ്ങ് ഇസ്രായേലിനു രാജാവായിത്തീരും; ഞാൻ അങ്ങേക്കു രണ്ടാമനും ആയിരിക്കും. ഇത് എന്റെ പിതാവായ ശൗലിനറിയാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
18 So they both made a covenant before the Lord; and David dwelt in Caene, and Jonathan went to his home.
അവരിരുവരും യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ഉടമ്പടിചെയ്തു. അതിനുശേഷം യോനാഥാൻ സ്വഭവനത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി. ദാവീദ് ഹോരേശിൽത്തന്നെ താമസിച്ചു.
19 And the Ziphites came up out of the dry country to Saul to the hill, saying, Behold, is not David hidden with us in Messara, in the narrows in Caene in the hill of Echela, which is on the right of Jessaemon?
ഇതിനിടയിൽ സീഫ്യർ ഗിബെയയിൽ ശൗലിന്റെ അടുത്തെത്തി: “ദാവീദ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ സമീപത്ത് യശിമോന് തെക്ക് ഹഖീലാമലയിലെ ഹോരേശിലുള്ള സുരക്ഷിതകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
20 And now [according to] all the king's desire to come down, let him come down to us; they have shut him up into the hands of the king.
ആകയാൽ രാജാവേ, അങ്ങയുടെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ എപ്പോൾ വേണമെങ്കിലും വന്നാലും! അവനെ അങ്ങയുടെ കൈകളിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുതരുന്ന കാര്യം ഞങ്ങൾ ഏറ്റിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
21 And Saul said to them, Blessed [be] ye of the Lord, for ye have been grieved on my account.
ശൗൽ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എന്നോടുള്ള കരുതലിന് യഹോവ നിങ്ങളെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കട്ടെ!
22 Go, I pray you, and make preparations yet, and notice his place where his foot shall be, quickly, in that place which ye spoke of, lest by any means he should deal craftily.
നിങ്ങൾചെന്ന് കൂടുതൽ വിവരങ്ങൾ അന്വേഷിക്കുക. ദാവീദ് പതിവായി പോകുന്നതെവിടെയാണെന്നും അവിടെ അവനെ കണ്ടവർ ആരാണെന്നും അന്വേഷിച്ചറിയുക. അവൻ വലിയ തന്ത്രശാലിയാണ് എന്നാണ് ഞാൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്.
23 Take notice, then, and learn, and I will go with you; and it shall come to pass that if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Juda.
അവൻ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കാറുള്ള ഇടങ്ങളെല്ലാം കണ്ടുപിടിച്ച് സൂക്ഷ്മവിവരങ്ങളുമായി നിങ്ങൾ മടങ്ങിവരിക! അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരും. അവൻ ആ പ്രദേശത്ത് എവിടെയെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ യെഹൂദ്യയിലെ ജനസഹസ്രങ്ങളിലൊക്കെയും അന്വേഷിച്ച് ഞാനവനെ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കും.”
24 And the Ziphites arose, and went before Saul: and David and his men [were] in the wilderness of Maon, westward, to the right of Jessaemon.
അങ്ങനെ അവർ ശൗലിനുമുമ്പായി സീഫിലേക്കു പോയി. അപ്പോൾ ദാവീദും കൂടെയുള്ളവരും യശിമോന് തെക്ക് അരാബയിലെ മാവോൻ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
25 And Saul and his men went to seek him: and they brought word to David, and he went down to the rock that was in the wilderness of Maon: and Saul heard, and followed after David to the wilderness of Maon.
ശൗലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആളുകളും തെരച്ചിൽ തുടങ്ങി. ദാവീദ് അതറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ മാവോൻ മരുഭൂമിയിലെ വലിയപാറയിൽ ചെന്നു താമസിച്ചു. ശൗൽ ഇതറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ദാവീദിനെ പിൻതുടർന്നു. അദ്ദേഹവും മാവോൻ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പോയി.
26 And Saul and his men go on one side of the mountain, and David and his men are on the other side of the mountain: and David was hiding himself to escape from Saul: and Saul and his men encamped against David and his men, in order to take them.
ശൗൽ പർവതത്തിന്റെ ഒരുവശത്തുകൂടി നീങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; ദാവീദും അനുയായികളും മറുവശത്തുകൂടിയും. ശൗലിനെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുമാറിപ്പോകാൻ ദാവീദ് ബദ്ധപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. ദാവീദിനെയും അനുയായികളെയും പിടിക്കുന്നതിനായി ശൗലും സൈന്യവും അടുത്തു വന്നുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
27 And there came a messenger to Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come hither, for the Philistines have invaded the land.
അപ്പോൾ ഒരു സന്ദേശവാഹകൻ വന്ന്, “വേഗം വന്നാലും! ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ദേശത്തെ ആക്രമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു ശൗലിനെ അറിയിച്ചു.
28 So Saul returned from following after David, and went to meet the Philistines: therefore that place was called The divided Rock.
അപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ ദാവീദിനെ പിൻതുടരുന്നതു മതിയാക്കി ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ നേരിടാനായി മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി. അതിനാൽ ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന് സേല-ഹമ്മാഹ്ലെക്കോത്ത് എന്നു പേരായി.
29 And David rose up from thence, and dwelt in the narrow passes of Engaddi.
ദാവീദ് അവിടെനിന്നു പോയി എൻ-ഗെദിയിലെ സുരക്ഷിതമേഖലകളിൽ വസിച്ചു.
