Kings I 21
1 And David comes to Nomba to Abimelech the priest: and Abimelech was amazed at meeting him, and said to him, Why [art] thou alone, and nobody with thee?
Naʻe toki hoko ai ʻa Tevita ki Nopi ʻo ne ʻalu kia ʻAhimeleki ko e taulaʻeiki: pea manavahē ʻa ʻAhimeleki ʻi he fetaulaki mo Tevita, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko e hā ʻoku ke tokotaha ai, pea ʻikai ha tangata ʻiate koe?”
2 And David said to the priest, The king gave me a command to-day, and said to me, Let no one know the matter on which I send thee, an concerning which I have charged thee: and I have charged my servants [to be] in the place that is called, The faithfulness of God, phellani maemoni.
Pea pehē ʻe Tevita kia ʻAhimeleki ko e taulaʻeiki; “Kuo tuku mai ʻe he tuʻi ha ngāue kiate au,” ʻo ne pehē kiate au, “Ke ʻoua naʻa ʻilo ʻe ha tangata ʻe tokotaha ʻae ngāue ko ia ʻaia ʻoku ou fekauʻi ai koe, mo ia kuo u fekau kiate koe: pea kuo u fekauʻi ʻeku kau tamaioʻeiki ki he ngaahi potu ko ʻena.
3 And now if there are under thy hand five loaves, give into my hand what is ready.
Pea ko ʻena ko e hā ʻoku ʻi ho lalo nima? Tuku mai ki hoku nima ha foʻi mā ʻe nima, pe ha meʻa pe ʻoku ke maʻu.”
4 And the priest answered David, and said, There are no common loaves under my hand, for I have none but holy loaves: if the young men have been kept at least from women, then they shall eat [them].

5 And David answered the priest, and said to him, Yea, we have been kept from women for three days: when I came forth for the journey all the young men were purified; but this expedition is unclean, wherefore it shall be sanctified this day because of my weapons.
Pea naʻe leaange ʻa Tevita ki he taulaʻeiki, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko e moʻoni kuo taʻofi ʻae kau fefine meiate kinautolu ʻi he ʻaho nai ʻe tolu, talu ʻeku haʻu kituaʻā, pea ʻoku māʻoniʻoni ʻae ngaahi ipu ʻae kau talavou, pea ʻoku hangē ʻoku ngofua ʻae mā, ʻio, he kuo fakatapui he ʻaho ni ʻae mā ʻi he ʻaiʻanga.”
6 So Abimelech the priest gave him the shewbread; for there were no loaves there, but only the presence loaves which had been removed from the presence of the Lord, in order that hot bread should be set on, on the day on which he took them.
Ko ia naʻe ʻatu ai kiate ia ʻe he taulaʻeiki ʻae mā tapu: he naʻe ʻikai ʻi ai ha mā, ka ko e mā pe ʻoe ʻao, ʻaia naʻe toʻo mei he ʻao ʻo Sihova, ke ʻai ki ai ʻae mā mafana ʻi he ʻaho ʻaia naʻe toʻo ʻo ʻave ai ia.
7 And there was there on that day one of Saul's servants detained before the Lord, and his name [was] Doec the Syrian, tending the mules of Saul.
Pea naʻe ʻi ai ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻae tangata ʻe tokotaha ʻi he kau tamaioʻeiki ʻa Saula, naʻe moʻua ia ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova; ko Toeki hono hingoa, ko e tangata ʻItomi, ko e tuʻukimuʻa ia ʻoe kau tauhimanu lalahi ʻa Saula.
8 And David said to Abimelech, See if there is here under thy hand spear or sword, for I have not brought in my hand my sword or my weapons, for the word of the king was urgent.
Pea pehē ʻe Tevita kia ʻAhimeleki, “Pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻi ho nima ni ha tao pē ha heletā? He ʻoku ʻikai te u ʻomi ʻeku heletā pe ko ʻeku mahafutau, he ko e ngāue ʻae tuʻi naʻe fai fakatoʻotoʻo.”
9 And the priest said, Behold the sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou smotest in the valley of Ela; and it is wrapt in a cloth: if thou wilt take it, take it for thyself, for there is no other except it here. And David said, Behold, there is none like it; give it me.
Pea pehē ʻe he taulaʻeiki, “Ko e heletā ʻa Kolaiate ko e tangata Filisitia, ʻaia naʻa ke tāmateʻi ʻi he teleʻa ʻo Ila, Vakai ʻoku tuku tākai ʻae kofu ʻi he tuʻa ʻefoti kapau ko ho loto ke ʻave ia, ʻave ia he ʻoku ʻikai ha taha kehe ka ko ia pe ʻi heni.” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita, “ʻOku ʻikai hano tatau mo ia; tuku mai ia.”
10 And he gave it him; and David arose, and fled in that day from he presence of Saul: and David came to Anchus king of Geth.
Pea naʻe tuʻu hake ʻa Tevita ʻi he ʻaho ko ia, ʻo hola ʻi heʻene manavahē kia Saula, pea ʻalu ia kia ʻAkisi ko e tuʻi ʻo Kati.
11 And the servants of Anchus said to him, [Is] not this David the king of the land? Did not the dancing women begin the son to him, saying, Saul has smitten his thousand, and David his ten thousands?
Pea pehē ʻe he kau tamaioʻeiki ʻa ʻAkisi kiate ia, “ʻIkai ko Tevita eni ko e tuʻi ʻoe fonua? ʻIkai naʻa nau hiva fetaliʻaki kiate ia ʻi he ngaahi meʻe, ʻo pehē, ‘Kuo tāmateʻi ʻe Saula ʻene ngaahi toko afe, mo Tevita ʻene ngaahi toko mano?’
12 And David laid up the words in his heart, and was greatly afraid of Anchus king of Geth.
Pea naʻe faʻo ʻe Tevita ʻae ngaahi lea ni ki hono loto, pea naʻe manavahē lahi ia kia ʻAkisi ko e tuʻi ʻo Kati.
13 And he changed his appearance before him, and feigned himself a false character in that day; and drummed upon the doors of the city, and used extravagant gestures with his hands, and fell against the doors of the gate, and his spittle ran down upon his beard.
Pea naʻa ne fakakehe ʻene anga ʻi honau ʻao ʻo ne fai ʻo hangē kuo vale ia honau nima, pea ne ne vaku ki he matapā ʻoe hūʻanga fale, pea naʻa ne tuku ke tafe hono fāvai ki hono fakapau.
14 And Anchus said to his servants, Lo! ye see the man [is] mad: why have ye brought him in to me?
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻAkisi ki heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, “Vakai, ʻoku mou mamata ʻoku fakavalevale ʻae tangata; pea ko e hā ia kuo mou ʻomi ai ia kiate au?
15 [Am] I in want of madmen, that ye have brought him in to me to play the madman? He shall not come into the house.
He ʻoku ʻaonga kiate au ha kau tangata fakavalevale, kuo mou ʻomi ai ʻae siana ni ke fai fakavalevale ʻi hoku ʻao? ʻE hoko koā ʻae siana ni ki hoku fale?”
