Titus 2
1 But let your words be in agreement with true and right teaching:
Pour toi, tiens un langage conforme à la saine doctrine.
2 That old men are to be simple in their tastes, serious, wise, true in faith, in love, and of a quiet mind.
Dis aux vieillards d’être sobres, graves, circonspects, sains dans la foi, dans la charité, dans la patience;
3 That old women are to be self-respecting in behaviour, not saying evil of others, not given to taking much wine, teachers of that which is good,
pareillement aux femmes âgées de faire paraître une sainte modestie dans leur tenue; de n’être ni médisantes, ni sujettes aux excès du vin; mais sages conseillères,
4 Training the younger women to have love for their husbands and children,
capables d’apprendre aux jeunes femmes à aimer leurs maris et leurs enfants;
5 To be wise in mind, clean in heart, kind; working in their houses, living under the authority of their husbands; so that no evil may be said of the word of God.
à être retenues, chastes, occupées aux soins domestiques, bonnes, soumises chacune à son mari, afin que la parole de Dieu ne soit exposée à aucun blâme.
6 To the young men give orders to be wise and serious-minded:
Exhorte de même les jeunes gens à être sages,
7 In all things see that you are an example of good works; holy in your teaching, serious in behaviour,
te montrant toi-même à tous égards un modèle de bonnes œuvres, mettant dans ton enseignement de la pureté, de la gravité,
8 Saying true and right words, against which no protest may be made, so that he who is not on our side may be put to shame, unable to say any evil of us.
une parole saine et irréprochable, afin de confondre nos adversaires qui n’auront aucun mal à dire de nous.
9 Servants are to be under the authority of their masters, pleasing them in all things, without argument;
Aux esclaves, recommande d’être soumis à leurs maîtres, de leur complaire en toutes choses, de ne pas les contredire,
10 Not taking what is not theirs, but giving clear signs of their good faith, in all things doing credit to the teaching of God our Saviour.
de ne rien détourner, mais de montrer toujours une fidélité parfaite, afin de faire honneur en toutes choses à la doctrine de Dieu, notre Sauveur.
11 For the grace of God has come, giving salvation to all men,
Car elle s’est manifestée la grâce de Dieu, source de salut pour tous les hommes;
12 Training us so that, turning away from evil and the desires of this world, we may be living wisely and uprightly in the knowledge of God in this present life; (aiōn g165)
elle nous enseigne à renoncer à l’impiété et aux convoitises mondaines, et à vivre dans le siècle présent avec tempérance, justice et piété, (aiōn g165)
13 Looking for the glad hope, the revelation of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ;
en attendant la bienheureuse espérance et l’apparition glorieuse de notre grand Dieu et Sauveur Jésus-Christ,
14 Who gave himself for us, so that he might make us free from all wrongdoing, and make for himself a people clean in heart and on fire with good works.
qui s’est donné lui-même pour nous, afin de nous racheter de toute iniquité et de se faire, en nous purifiant, un peuple qui lui appartienne, et qui soit zélé pour les bonnes œuvres.
15 On all these points give teaching and help, and make clear what is right with all authority. Let all men give you honour.
Voilà ce que tu dois prêcher, recommander et revendiquer avec une pleine autorité. Que personne ne te méprise.
