< Matthew 23 >
1 Then Jesus said to the people and to his disciples:
Acunüng, Jesuh naw axüisaw he ja khyangpäe jah mthehki.
2 The scribes and the Pharisees have the authority of Moses;
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he Mosia ngawhnak üng ngawkie.
3 All things, then, which they give you orders to do, these do and keep: but do not take their works as your example, for they say and do not.
“Acunakyase, aipi ami ning jah mtheha mäiha nami ve vai, cunsepi ami pawh käh nami jah läkei vai. Ami pyena mäiha i am pawh khawi u.
4 They make hard laws and put great weights on men's backs; but they themselves will not put a finger to them.
“Aktäa yüh lü phüi sekia phüih pyang u lü khyanga ngkyang üng mtaihkie. Amimät naw ta ami kut mdawngca am pi am hnet hlü u.
5 But all their works they do so as to be seen by men: for they make wide their phylacteries, and the edges of their robes,
“Khyang he naw ami jah hmuh hmuh vaia khut pawhkie. Cangcim üng a vea kba; khyang naw ami jah münnak vaia, ami mcea sawm lü ami ban ami pinnak mehvun yüiteng ua.
6 And the things desired by them are the first places at feasts, and the chief seats in the Synagogues,
“Eiawknak pawia adawnak säih ngawhnak üng ngaw hlükie. Sinakoka pi akdaw säiha ngawhnak üng ngawh vai jawngnakie.
7 And words of respect in the market-places, and to be named by men, Teacher.
“Jawihtuknaka pi ami jah leisawng vai, ‘Saja aw’ ti lü jah khü vai jawngnakie.
8 But you may not be named Teacher: for one is your teacher, and you are all brothers.
“Nangmi naw ta ‘Saja aw’ ti lü ami ning jah khü vaia käh ve ua. Isetiüng ta, nangmi cun avan tängei u lü Saja pi mat ni nami tak.
9 And give no man the name of father on earth: because one is your Father, who is in heaven.
“Khawmdek khana u pi, ‘Pa aw,’ ti lü käh khü ua. Isetiüng ta nami pa mat däk khankhawa veki ni.
10 And you may not be named guides: because one is your Guide, even Christ.
“Mkhawnga ami ning jah khü vaia käh ve ua. Isetiüng ta, nami mkhawng cun Mesijah mat däk ni.
11 But let the greatest among you be your servant.
“Nangmi üng kyäp säihki cun nami mpyaa kya yah khai.
12 And whoever makes himself high will be made low, and whoever makes himself low will be made high.
“Aupi, amät mhlünmtaieiki cun nem säih khai, amät mhnemeiki cun mhlünmtaia kya khai.
13 But a curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! because you are shutting the kingdom of heaven against men: for you do not go in yourselves, and those who are going in, you keep back.
“Nangmi thumksinge ja Pharise he, hypocrite aw, nami jo se ve. Isetiüng ta, khyang hea maa Khankhaw Pe ksawh khai ve uki, nanimät pi käh lut u lü lut khaie pi nami jah mkhyawhki.
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he, nangmi hypocrite aw, nami jo se ve. Isetiüng ta, hmeinue jah ei aw u lü ami im nami jah huteiki. Mkhyekatnak am a ngdangnak vaia, khawvei veia nami ktaiyüki. Acunakyase, ksehlen bawkia mkatnak nami khamei khai.
15 A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you go about land and sea to get one disciple and, having him, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. (Geenna )
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he, nangmi hypocrite aw, nami jo se ve. Isetiüng ta, Judahea jumeinak üng khyang matca a law vaia tuilawng khawkawng naküt lümkan lü nami cit hüki. Ngpyawt lawki pi namimäta kthaka anghngiha Mulai Pea nami cehsaki. (Geenna )
16 A curse is on you, blind guides, who say, Whoever takes an oath by the Temple, it is nothing; but whoever takes an oath by the gold of the Temple, he is responsible.
“Khyang mikmüe aw! nami jo se ve, “Aupi Temple be lü ng’yünceki cun amdang ni, aupi Temple üngka xüi be lü ng’yünceki cun a pyena mäiha kyaki ni,” nami tiki.
17 You foolish ones and blind: which is greater, the gold, or the Temple which makes the gold holy?
“Amikmü yawk’ange aw, i ja adaw bawk? Xüi mä a daw bawk? Xüi ngcimsakia Temple mä a daw bawk?
18 And, Whoever takes an oath by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever takes an oath by the offering which is on it, he is responsible.
“Kpyawngkung be lü ng’yünceki cun amdang ni, kpyawngkunga khana peta petmsawt be lü ng’yünceki cun a pyena mäiha kyaki ni,” ti lü nami jah mtheiki.
19 You blind ones: which is greater, the offering, or the altar which makes the offering holy?
“Ihlawka nami mik müki ni, i ni a daw bawk? Petmsawt mä a daw bawk? Acuna petmsawt ngcimcaihsakia kpyawngkung mä a daw bawk?
20 He, then, who takes an oath by the altar, takes it by the altar and by all things on it.
“Acunakyase, kpyawngkung be lü ng’yünceki cun acuna kpyawngkung ja a khana vekia petmsawte, avan be lü ng’yünceki ni.
21 And he who takes an oath by the Temple, takes it by the Temple and by him whose house it is.
“Temple be lü ng’yünceki cun acuna Temple ja a khuia veki Pamhnam be lü ng’yünceki ni.
22 And he who takes an oath by heaven, takes it by the seat of God, and by him who is seated on it.
“Khankhaw be lü ng’yünceki cun Pamhnama ngawhnak ja acunüng ngawki be lü ng’yünceki ni.
23 A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you make men give a tenth of all sorts of sweet-smelling plants, but you give no thought to the more important things of the law, righteousness, and mercy, and faith; but it is right for you to do these, and not to let the others be undone.
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he, nangni hypocrite aw, nami jo se ve. Thingkthei yawpai ja tawikxüng ankseie xa üng mat nami peki. Acunsepi, aktung bawk thum üng jah läklam vai: ngsungpyunkia bilawhnak, mpyeneinak ja cingcainake jah hawihinkie. Ahin he cun käh jah hawih lü nami jah läklam vai.
24 You blind guides, who take out a fly from your drink, but make no trouble over a camel.
“Lam msümki khyang mikmüe aw, mkhoyang mat pi käh pa khaia tui mcim u lü sanghngüksaü nami mjaweiki.
25 A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you make clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of violent behaviour and uncontrolled desire.
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he, nangni hypocrite aw! nami jo se ve. Isetiüng, khawt ja kbe a kpung nami mthiki, a k’uma hleihlaknak ja ngtawngeinak am beki ni.
26 You blind Pharisee, first make clean the inside of the cup and of the plate, so that the outside may become equally clean.
“Pharise mikmüe aw, khawt ja kbe a ngcim vaia a k’um mthi ma ua. Acunüng a kpung pi ngcim hnga khai ni.
27 A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you are like the resting-places of the dead, which are made white, and seem beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all unclean things.
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he, nangni hypocrite aw, nami jo se ve. Isetiüng ta, nangmi cun ng'utnak lungdü akbawk, a kpunga angtoa ngdang lü a k’um yuhe ja yawk kthue am be lü mtüihkhehki am nami tängki.
28 Even so you seem to men to be full of righteousness, but inside you are all false and full of wrongdoing.
“Acukba nangmi pi akpunga khyang naküta veia ngsungpyunkia mäiha nami ngdangki, acunsepi nami mlung k’uma Pamhnam khut pawhkia nami ngsaihnak ja am dawkia ngaihnak mkhyekatnak beki.
29 A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! because you put up buildings for housing the dead bodies of the prophets, and make fair the last resting-places of good men, and say,
“Thum mtheie ja Pharise he, nangmi hypocrite aw, nami jo se ve. Isetiüng ta, sahma hea mkhya ime jah sa u lü akdawa xüng lü awmki hea phäh yepim nami saki.
30 If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in the blood of the prophets.
“Mi pupaea kcün üng, mi na ngtüi law hngaa ta, sahma he ami jah hnimnak üng am mi na bawibeng hnga khai sü,’ nami tiki.
31 So that you are witnesses against yourselves that you are the sons of those who put the prophets to death.
“Acunakyase, sahma hnimkia ksawna nami kya cun nami ksingki ni.
32 Make full, then, the measure of your fathers.
“Nami pupaea mkhyekat nami kpha vaia nangmi pi mkhyekat betü ua.
33 You snakes, offspring of snakes, how will you be kept from the punishment of hell? (Geenna )
“Nangmi kphyue ja kphyua ca he aw, mulai nami cehnak vai üngka naw ihawkba nami lät thei khai ni? (Geenna )
34 For this reason, I send you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them you will put to death and put on the cross, and to some of them you will give blows in your Synagogues, driving them from town to town;
“Acunakyase, cangcim üng a na pyen khawi cun, ‘Sahmae, khyang ktheme ja, ngthungcim ksinge, ka ning jah tüih law pet khai. Avang nami ja hnim khai, avang kutlamktung üng nami jah taih khai, avang sinakok k’uma jah kpai u lü, mlüh mat üngka naw mlüh mata cit lü nami jah mkhuimkha khai.
35 So that on you may come all the blood of the upright on the earth, from the blood of upright Abel to the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom you put to death between the Temple and the altar.
“Acunakyase, khyangdüng Abelaha thisen üng tün lü, Temple k'uma ja, Temple ja kpyawngkunga nglaka nami hnim Barakiha capa Zakhariha thisen cäp, ja khawmdek khana khyangsungpyune, ami jah hnim naküta thisen cun nami khana pha khai.
36 Truly I say to you, All these things will come on this generation.
“Akcanga ka ning jah mthehki, khyang hnima phäh ksükcetnak avan cun tuh ka khyang hea khana pha law khai!
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, putting to death the prophets, and stoning those who are sent to her! Again and again would I have taken your children to myself as a bird takes her young ones under her wings, and you would not!
“Aw Jerusalem, Jerusalem, sahma he jah hnim lü na veia ami jah tüih law khyang he lung am na jah vawiki aw! Ainu naw, a ca he a ngphya keha a jah mkhäma kbaa, khawvei na canae jah mkhäm be vai ka ngaihki? Cunüngpi, acun am na jumki.
38 See, your house is made waste.
“Acunakyase Na temple cun axawnga na veia ning hawih peta kya ve.
39 For I say to you, You will not see me from this time till you say, A blessing on him who comes in the name of the Lord.
“Ka ning jah mthehki, tuh üngkhyüh ‘Bawipa ngming üng lawki Pamhnam naw josennak be se’ am nami tia küt cäpa, ka hmai am na hmu ti uki,” a ti.
