Judges 21
1 Now the men of Israel had taken an oath in Mizpah, saying, Not one of us will give his daughter as a wife to Benjamin.
Och de män af Israel hade svorit i Mizpa, och sagt: Ingen af oss skall gifva sina dotter de BenJamiter till hustru.
2 And the people came to Beth-el, waiting there till evening before God, and gave themselves up to bitter weeping.
Och folket kom till Guds hus, och blef der för Gudi allt intill aftonen; och de upphofvo sina röst, och greto svårliga,
3 And they said, O Lord, the God of Israel, why has this fate come on Israel, that today one tribe has been cut off from Israel?
Och sade: O Herre Israels Gud, hvi är detta skedt i Israel, att en slägt är i dag nederlagd i Israel?
4 Then on the day after, the people got up early and made an altar there, offering burned offerings and peace-offerings.
Och andra dagen var folket bittida uppe och byggde der ett altare, och offrade bränneoffer och tackoffer.
5 And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel, who did not come up to the Lord at the meeting of all Israel? For they had taken a great oath that whoever did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord was to be put to death.
Och Israels barn sade: Hvilken är den af Israels slägter, som icke hit uppkommen är med menighetene inför Herran? Ty en stor ed var gången, att den som icke uppkomme till Herran i Mizpa, han skulle döden dö.
6 And the children of Israel were moved with pity for Benjamin their brother, saying, Today one tribe has been cut off from Israel.
Och Israel ångrade sig öfver sin broder BenJamin, och sade: I dag är en slägt i Israel nederlagd.
7 What are we to do about wives for those who are still living? For we have taken an oath by the Lord that we will not give them our daughters for wives.
Huru vilje vi göra, att de som qvare äro måga få hustrur? Ty vi hafve svorit vid Herran, att vi icke skole gifva dem hustrur utaf våra döttrar;
8 And they said, Which one of the tribes of Israel did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord? And it was seen that no one had come from Jabesh-gilead to the meeting.
Och sade: Hvilken är af Israels slägter, som icke är kommen hitupp till Herran i Mizpa? Och si, der hade ingen varit i menighetenes lägre utaf Jabes i Gilead;
9 For when the people were numbered, not one man of the people of Jabesh-gilead was present.
Ty de talde folket, och si, der var ingen borgare af Jabes i Gilead.
10 So they (the meeting) sent twelve thousand of the best fighting-men, and gave them orders, saying, Go and put the people of Jabesh-gilead to the sword without mercy, with their women and their little ones.
Då sände menigheten tolftusend män af stridsamma män, och bödo dem, och sade; Går bort, och slår med svärdsegg de borgare i Jabes i Gilead, med hustrur och barn.
11 And this is what you are to do: every male, and every woman who has had sex relations with a man, you are to put to the curse, but you are to keep safe the virgins. And they did so.
Dock skolen I så göra: allt det mankön är, och alla de qvinnor, som när manne legat hafva, skolen I tillspillogifva.
12 Now there were among the people of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins who had never had sex relations with a man; these they took to their tents in Shiloh in the land of Canaan.
Och de funno när de borgare i Jabes i Gilead fyrahundrade pigor, som jungfrur voro, och när ingen man legat hade; dem förde de i lägret till Silo, som ligger i Canaans land.
13 And all the meeting sent to the men of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, offering them peace.
Då sände hela menigheten bort, och lät tala med BenJamins barn, som lågo i bergklippone Rimmon, och kallade dem vänliga.
14 Then Benjamin came back; and they gave them the women whom they had kept from death among the women of Jabesh-gilead: but still there were not enough for them.
Alltså kommo BenJamins barn igen på den tiden; och de gåfvo dem till hustrur de som de vid lif behållit hade utaf Jabes qvinnfolk i Gilead; och funno så inga flera.
15 And the people were moved with pity for Benjamin, because the Lord had let his wrath loose on the tribes of Israel.
Då ångrade sig folket öfver BenJamin, att Herren hade gjort ett splitter i Israels slägter.
16 Then the responsible men of the meeting said, What are we to do about wives for the rest of them, seeing that the women of Benjamin are dead?
Och de äldste i menighetene sade: Hvad vilje vi göra, att de som öfver äro måga ock få hustrur? Ty de qvinnor i BenJamin äro förgjorda;
17 And they said, How is the rest of Benjamin to be given offspring so that one tribe of Israel may not be put out of existence,
Och sade: De måste ju behålla sitt arf, som igenblefne äro af BenJamin, att icke en slägt nederlägges i Israel.
18 Seeing that we may not give them our daughters as wives? For the children of Israel had taken an oath, saying, Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.
Och vi kunne icke gifva dem våra döttrar till hustrur; ty Israels barn hafva svorit och sagt: Förbannad vare den, som de BenJamiter gifver hustru.
19 And they said, See, every year there is a feast of the Lord in Shiloh, which is to the north of Beth-el, on the east side of the highway which goes up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.
Och de sade: Si, det är en årlig Herrans högtid i Silo, norrut ifrå Guds hus, österut på den vägen, som drager ifrå BethEl intill Sichem, och söder ifrå Lebona.
20 And they said to the men of Benjamin, Go into the vine-gardens, waiting there secretly,
Och de bödo BenJamins barnom, och sade: Går bort, och sitter i försåt i vingårdarna.
21 And watching; and if the daughters of Shiloh come out to take part in the dances, then come from the vine-gardens and take a wife for every one of you from among the daughters of Shiloh, and go back to the land of Benjamin.
När I då sen, att Silo döttrar gå ut i dans, så gifver eder hasteliga utu vingårdarna, och tager hvar och en sig en hustru af Silo döttrar, och går uti BenJamins land.
22 And when their fathers or their brothers come and make trouble, you are to say to them, Give them to us as an act of grace; for we did not take them as wives for ourselves in war; and if you yourselves had given them to us you would have been responsible for the broken oath.
När nu deras fäder eller bröder komma till att beklaga sig för oss, vilje vi säga till dem: Varer dem barmhertige för våra skull; förty vi hafve icke tagit dem hustrur med strid, utan I villen icke gifva dem dem; det är nu edor skull.
23 So the men of Benjamin did this, and got wives for themselves for every one of their number, taking them away by force from the dance; then they went back to their heritage, building up their towns and living in them.
BenJamins barn gjorde ock så, och togo qvinnor efter sitt tal, hvilka de röfvade utaf dansen; och foro bort, och bodde i sin arfvedel, och byggde städer, och bodde deruti.
24 Then the children of Israel went away from there, every man to his tribe and his family, every man went back to his heritage.
Israels barn foro ock dädan på den tiden, hvar och en till sina slägt, och till sina ätt; och drogo ut dädan, hvar och en till sin arfvedel.
25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did what seemed right to him.
På den tiden var ingen Konung i Israel; utan hvar och en gjorde hvad honom tycktes rätt vara.
