< Jonah 3 >
1 And the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying,
Alò, pawòl SENYÈ a te vini a Jonas pou yon dezyèm fwa. Li te di:
2 Up! go to Nineveh, that great town, and give it the word which I have given you.
“Leve ale Ninive, gwo vil la e pwoklame a li menm tout pwoklamasyon ke Mwen va pale ou yo.”
3 So Jonah got up and went to Nineveh as the Lord had said. Now Nineveh was a very great town, three days' journey from end to end.
Konsa, Jonas te ale Ninive selon pawòl SENYÈ a. Alò, Ninive te tèlman yon gwo vil, li te pran twa jou ap mache pou travèse l.
4 And Jonah first of all went a day's journey into the town, and crying out said, In forty days destruction will overtake Nineveh.
Jonas te kòmanse travèse vil la pandan yon jou. Li te kriye fò e te di: “Nan karant jou, Ninive va detwi nèt.”
5 And the people of Nineveh had belief in God; and a time was fixed for going without food, and they put on haircloth, from the greatest to the least.
Answit, pèp Ninive lan te kwè Bondye. Yo te deklare yon jèn e yo te mete twal sak soti nan pi gran pou rive nan pi piti pami yo.
6 And the word came to the king of Nineveh, and he got up from his seat of authority, and took off his robe, and covering himself with haircloth, took his seat in the dust.
Lè pawòl la te rive kote wa Ninive lan, li te leve soti sou twòn li, e te mete manto wayal li sou kote. Li te kouvri tèt li ak twal sak e li te chita nan mitan sann.
7 And he had it given out in Nineveh, By the order of the king and his great men, no man or beast, herd or flock, is to have a taste of anything; let them have no food or water:
Li te pibliye yon pwoklamasyon. Li te di: “Nan Ninive, pa dekrè wa a, ak prens li yo: Pa kite ni lòm, ni bèt, ni bann mouton, ni twoupo goute anyen. Pa kite yo ni manje ni bwè dlo.
8 And let man and beast be covered with haircloth, and let them make strong prayers to God: and let everyone be turned from his evil way and the violent acts of their hands.
Men ni lòm ni bèt dwe vin kouvri ak twal sak. Konsa, kite yo rele Bondye avèk tout kè yo, pou tout moun kapab vire kite chemen mechan yo a, e vire kite vyolans ki nan men yo.
9 Who may say that God will not be turned, changing his purpose and turning away from his burning wrath, so that destruction may not overtake us?
Kilès ki konnen, petèt Bondye va repanti, e ralanti sou gwo kòlè Li a pou nou pa peri.”
10 And God saw what they did, how they were turned from their evil way; and God's purpose was changed as to the evil which he said he would do to them, and he did it not.
Lè Bondye te wè zèv yo, ke yo te vire kite chemen mechan yo a, alò Bondye te repanti de gwo malè ke Li te deklare pou fè rive sou yo a. Epi Li pa t fè sa ankò.
