< Job 31 >

1 I made an agreement with my eyes; how then might my eyes be looking on a virgin?
Tangla to koehhaih mik hoiah ka khet han ai ah, ka mik hoi lokkamhaih to ka sak.
2 For what is God's reward from on high, or the heritage given by the Ruler of all from heaven?
To tiah nahaeloe Sithaw mah ranui bang hoiah kawbaktih taham maw paek ueloe, ranui ih Thacak Sithaw mah kawbaktih toep han koi qawk maw paek tih?
3 Is it not trouble for the sinner, and destruction for the evil-doers?
Kasae kaminawk hanah amrohaih om ueloe, zaehaih sah kaminawk hanah anghmathaih om mak ai maw?
4 Does he not see my ways, and are not my steps all numbered?
Anih mah loe ka caehhaih loklamnawk to panoek moe, ka khok tangkannawk doeh kroek boih na ai maw?
5 If I have gone in false ways, or my foot has been quick in working deceit;
Amsoem ai ah ka caeh moe, alinghaih bangah ka khok tangkan to rang nahaeloe,
6 (Let me be measured in upright scales, and let God see my righteousness: )
kamsoem coih tahhaih hoiah na tah nasoe loe, coek koi om ai ah kho ka sakhaih to Sithaw mah panoek nasoe.
7 If my steps have been turned out of the way, or if my heart went after my eyes, or if the property of another is in my hands;
Loklam kam khraeng ving moe, ka palungthin mah ka mik koehhaih hnukah patom moeng maw, to tih ai boeh loe ka ban ah panuet thok hmuen maw akap moeng nahaeloe,
8 Let me put seed in the earth for another to have the fruit of it, and let my produce be uprooted.
ka patit ih thingthai to minawk kalah mah caa nasoe, ue, ka patit ih akungnawk doeh aphong o king nasoe.
9 If my heart went after another man's wife, or if I was waiting secretly at my neighbour's door;
Nongpata maeto mah ka palung hae pacuek moe, ka imtaeng kami ih khongkha ah anih to ka zing nahaeloe,
10 Then let my wife give pleasure to another man and let others make use of her body.
ka zu mah minawk ih cang to daeng pae nasoe loe, minawk mah ka zu to muk o nasoe.
11 For that would be a crime; it would be an act for which punishment would be measured out by the judges:
Hae hmuen loe kalen parai zaehaih ah oh; ue, lokcaekkung mah danpaek han koi zaehaih ah oh.
12 It would be a fire burning even to destruction, and taking away all my produce.
To zaehaih loe amrosak thaih hmai, ka tawnh ih hmuennawk tangzuun khoek to kangh boih hmai ah oh.
13 If I did wrong in the cause of my man-servant, or my woman-servant, when they went to law with me;
Ka tamna nongpa hoi nongpatanawk mah kai laisaep o thuih naah, nihcae to khet ka patoek nahaeloe,
14 What then will I do when God comes as my judge? and what answer may I give to his questions?
Sithaw amtueng naah timaw ka sak moe, lokcaek naah timaw ka pathim han?
15 Did not God make him as well as me? did he not give us life in our mothers' bodies?
Anih doeh kai sahkung Sithaw mah na ai maw sak? Kaihnik loe sahkung maeto mah na ai maw zok thungah sak hmaek?
16 If I kept back the desire of the poor; if the widow's eye was looking for help to no purpose;
Caaknaek tawn ai kami hanah caaknaek ka paek ai maw, lamhmai ih mik to kam rosak maw,
17 If I kept my food for myself, and did not give some of it to the child with no father;
to tih ai boeh loe amno ampa tawn ai kaminawk hanah caaknaek paek ai ah, kaimabueng ah ka caak maw,
18 (For I was cared for by God as by a father from my earliest days; he was my guide from the body of my mother; )
(ka thendoeng nathuem hoi ampa ah angcoeng khoek to caaknaek tawn ai kami to ka pacah, ka tapen tangsuek natuem hoi anih to ka bomh boeh; )
19 If I saw one near to death for need of clothing, and that the poor had nothing covering him;
khukbuen tawn ai ah dueh kami hoi khukbuen tawn ai ah kaom amtang kami to ka hnuk moe,
20 If his back did not give me a blessing, and the wool of my sheep did not make him warm;
kai mah anih to bae um ah tuumui kang khuksak ai pongah, anih mah kai tahamhoihaih paek ai maw,
21 If my hand had been lifted up against him who had done no wrong, when I saw that I was supported by the judges;
lokcaekhaih im ah kai angdoe haih kami om tih hmang, tiah ka poek pongah, amno ampa tawn ai kami to ka pacaekthlaek nahaeloe,
22 May my arm be pulled from my body, and be broken from its base.
ka ban tampawk hae palaeng hoiah amkhraeng ving nasoe loe, ka palaeng huh doeh angkhaek lawt nasoe.
23 For the fear of God kept me back, and because of his power I might not do such things.
Sithaw khae hoi ih amrohaih to ka zit, a Lensawkhaih to ka zit pongah to baktih hmuen to ka sah ai.
24 If I made gold my hope, or if I ever said to the best gold, I have put my faith in you;
Sui to kang oep haih maw, to tih ai boeh loe kaciim suitui khaeah, Nang loe ka buephaih ah na oh, tiah ka thuih moeng maw,
25 If I was glad because my wealth was great, and because my hand had got together a great store;
hmuenmae paroeai ka tawnh moe, ka ban mah hmuenmae paroeai hak thaih pongah kam oek moeng maw,
26 If, when I saw the sun shining, and the moon moving on its bright way,
ni aengh to ka khet moe, a aanghaih hoiah kacaeh khrah to ka khet naah,
27 A secret feeling of worship came into my heart, and my hand gave kisses from my mouth;
tamquta hoi anghoehaih ka tawnh moe, ka pakha mah ka ban hae mok cadoeh;
28 That would have been another sin to be rewarded with punishment by the judges; for I would have been false to God on high.
lokcaek koi kaom zaehaih ah ni oh, ranui koekah kaom Sithaw angphat taak baktiah ni oh.
29 If I was glad at the trouble of my hater, and gave cries of joy when evil overtook him;
Kai hnuma kami amro naah, kang hoe moe, anih raihaih tongh naah, kam oek vai maw,
30 (For I did not let my mouth give way to sin, in putting a curse on his life; )
a hinghaih tangoeng moe, zaehaih sak hanah pakha ka aang mak ai.
31 If the men of my tent did not say, Who has not had full measure of his meat?
Ka imthung ah kaom kaminawk mah, zok kamhah ah Job ih moi caa o vai ai, tiah thui o mak ai.
32 The traveller did not take his night's rest in the street, and my doors were open to anyone on a journey;
Angvinnawk loklam ah iih o han ai ah, kholong caeh kaminawk hanah khongkha to ka paongh pae.
33 If I kept my evil doings covered, and my sin in the secret of my breast,
Adam baktiah ka zaehaih ka hawk ai, ka zaehaih palung thungah ka hawk vai ai;
34 For fear of the great body of people, or for fear that families might make sport of me, so that I kept quiet, and did not go out of my door;
pop parai kami to ka zit, to tih ai boeh loe acaeng kaminawk mah pahnui thui haih to ka zit pongah, kang hngai duem moe, tasa bang tacawt ai ah ka oh vai maw?
35 If only God would give ear to me, and the Ruler of all would give me an answer! or if what he has against me had been put in writing!
36 Truly I would take up the book in my hands; it would be to me as a crown;
To ca to palaeng ah ka put moe, sui lumuek baktiah kang muek han.
37 I would make clear the number of my steps, I would put it before him like a prince! The words of Job are ended.
Ka caehhaih khok tangkannawk anih khaeah ka thuih moe, siangpahrang capa baktiah a taengah ka caeh han.
38 If my land has made an outcry against me, or the ploughed earth has been in sorrow;
Kai ih long mah kai hae kasae thuih maw, to tih ai boeh loe mikkhraetui hoiah a qah maw,
39 If I have taken its produce without payment, causing the death of its owners;
atho paek ai ah anih ih thingthai to ka caak pae moe, laikok tawnkungnawk hinghaih to kam rosak nahaeloe,
40 Then in place of grain let thorns come up, and in place of barley evil-smelling plants.
cang zuengah soekhringkung amprawk nasoe loe, barli cang zuengah phroh amprawk lat nasoe, tiah a naa. Job ih lok loe hae ah boeng boeh.
