Jeremiah 32
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.
La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie par l'Éternel, la dixième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda: c'était la dix-huitième année de Nébucadnézar.
2 Now at that time the king of Babylon's army was round Jerusalem, shutting it in: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the place of the armed watchmen, in the house of the king of Judah.
Or l'armée du roi de Babel assiégeait alors Jérusalem, et Jérémie, le prophète, était enfermé dans le vestibule de la prison qui était dans la maison du roi de Juda,
3 For Zedekiah, king of Judah, had had him shut up, saying, Why have you, as a prophet, been saying, The Lord has said, See, I will give this town into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will take it;
où l'avait enfermé Sédécias, roi de Juda, en disant: Pourquoi prophétises-tu disant: « Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je vais livrer cette ville aux mains du roi de Babel, pour qu'il s'en empare,
4 And Zedekiah, king of Judah, will not get away from the hands of the Chaldaeans, but will certainly be given up into the hands of the king of Babylon, and will have talk with him, mouth to mouth, and see him, eye to eye.
et Sédécias, roi de Juda, n'échappera pas aux mains des Chaldéens, mais il sera livré aux mains du roi de Babel, et il lui parlera bouche à bouche, et ses yeux rencontreront ses yeux;
5 And he will take Zedekiah away to Babylon, where he will be till I have pity on him, says the Lord: though you are fighting with the Chaldaeans, things will not go well for you?
et il conduira Sédécias à Babel, où il demeurera jusqu'à ce que je le visite, dit l'Éternel. Si vous vous battez contre les Chaldéens, vous n'aurez point de succès »?
6 And Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Alors Jérémie dit: La parole de l'Éternel m'a été adressée en ces mots:
7 See, Hanamel, the son of Shallum, your father's brother, will come to you and say, Give the price and get for yourself my property in Anathoth: for you have the right of the nearest relation.
Voici, Hanaméel, fils de Sallum ton oncle, s'approchera de toi pour te dire: Achète mon champ qui est à Anathoth, car tu as le droit de retrait pour le rachat.
8 So Hanamel, the son of my father's brother, came to me, as the Lord had said, to the place of the armed watchmen, and said to me, Give the price and get my property which is in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: for you have the nearest relation's right to the heritage; so get it for yourself. Then it was clear to me that this was the word of the Lord.
Et Hanaméel, fils de mon oncle, s'approcha de moi selon la parole de l'Éternel, dans le vestibule de la prison, et me dit: Achète mon champ qui est à Anathoth, dans le pays de Benjamin, car tu as le droit de succession et de retrait; achète-le! Et je reconnus que c'était là la parole de l'Éternel.
9 So I got for a price the property in Anathoth from Hanamel, the son of my father's brother, and gave him the money, seventeen shekels of silver;
Et j'achetai le champ de Hanaméel, fils de mon oncle, à Anathoth, et je lui pesai le prix, sept sicles [d'or], et dix sicles d'argent.
10 And I put it in writing, stamping it with my stamp, and I took witnesses and put the money into the scales.
Et je consignai cela dans une lettre que je scellai; et je pris des témoins, et je pesai l'argent à la balance.
11 So I took the paper witnessing the business, one copy rolled up and stamped, and one copy open:
Puis je pris la lettre d'achat, celle qui était scellée selon l'ordonnance et les statuts, et celle qui était ouverte;
12 And I gave the paper to Baruch, the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, before the eyes of Hanamel, the son of my father's brother, and of the witnesses who had put their names to the paper, and before all the Jews who were seated in the place of the armed watchmen.
et je remis la lettre d'achat à Baruch, fils de Nérija, fils de Mahaséïa, en présence de Hanaméel, mon parent, et en présence des témoins signataires de la lettre d'achat, et en présence de tous les Juifs assis dans le vestibule de la prison;
13 And I gave orders to Baruch in front of them, saying,
et en leur présence je donnai cet ordre à Baruch:
14 This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said: Take these papers, the witness of this business, the one which is rolled up and stamped, and the one which is open; and put them in a vessel of earth so that they may be kept for a long time.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Prends ces lettres, cette lettre d'achat scellée, et cette lettre ouverte, et mets-les dans un vase de terre, afin qu'elles se conservent longtemps.
15 For the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said, There will again be trading in houses and fields and vine-gardens in this land.
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Il sera encore acheté des maisons, et des champs, et des vignes dans ce pays-ci.
16 Now after I had given the paper to Baruch, the son of Neriah, I made my prayer to the Lord, saying,
Et je priai l'Éternel, après avoir remis la lettre d'achat à Baruch, fils de Nérija, disant:
17 Ah Lord God! see, you have made the heaven and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm, and there is nothing you are not able to do:
Ah! Seigneur Éternel, voici, tu as formé les Cieux et la terre par ta grande force et ton bras étendu: rien n'est trop difficile pour toi.
18 You have mercy on thousands, and send punishment for the evil-doing of the fathers on their children after them: the great, the strong God, the Lord of armies is his name:
Tu fais grâce à mille [générations] et tu fais retomber la peine du péché des pères dans le sein de leurs enfants après eux. Dieu grand et puissant, dont le nom est l'Éternel des armées,
19 Great in wisdom and strong in act: whose eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of men, giving to everyone the reward of his ways and the fruit of his doings:
toi qui es grand en conseil et puissant en action, toi dont les yeux sont ouverts sur toutes les voies des enfants des hommes, pour rendre à chacun selon ses voies et selon le fruit de ses œuvres,
20 You have done signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day, in Israel and among other men; and have made a name for yourself as at this day;
toi qui fis des signes et des miracles au pays d'Egypte jusqu'à ce jour, et pour Israël, et pour d'autres hommes, et qui t'es fait un nom tel qu'[il est] aujourd'hui;
21 And have taken your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders and with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, causing great fear;
et qui tiras du pays d'Egypte ton peuple d'Israël, avec des signes et des miracles, et d'une main forte et d'un bras étendu, et avec une grande terreur,
22 And have given them this land, which you gave your word to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;
et qui leur donnas ce pays que tu avais juré à leurs pères de leur donner, pays découlant de lait et de miel;
23 And they came in and took it for their heritage, but they did not give ear to your voice, and were not ruled by your law; they have done nothing of all you gave them orders to do: so you have made all this evil come on them:
et ils sont venus et en ont pris possession; mais ils n'ont point obéi à ta voix, ni suivi ta loi, ne pratiquant point tout ce que tu leur avais commandé de faire; et tu as fait fondre sur eux toutes ces calamités!
24 See, they have made earthworks against the town to take it; and the town is given into the hands of the Chaldaeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword and need of food and disease: and what you have said has taken place, and truly you see it.
Voici, les terrasses atteignent déjà cette ville, en sorte qu'elle sera prise, puis livrée aux mains des Chaldéens qui lui sont hostiles, par l'épée et la famine et la peste; et ce que tu as dit arrive, et voici, tu en es témoin.
25 And you have said to me, Give the money to get yourself a property, and have the business witnessed; though the town is given into the hands of the Chaldaeans.
Et néanmoins tu m'as dit, Seigneur, Éternel: « Achète-toi un champ pour de l'argent, et prends des témoins; » et cette ville est livrée aux mains des Chaldéens!
26 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
Et la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie en ces mots:
27 See, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything so hard that I am unable to do it?
Voici, moi l'Éternel, je suis le Dieu de toute chair; y a-t-il rien de trop difficile pour moi?
28 So this is what the Lord has said: See, I am giving this town into the hands of the Chaldaeans and into the hands of Nebuchadrezzar, the king of Babylon, and he will take it:
Aussi, ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je livre cette ville aux mains des Chaldéens, et aux mains de Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel, pour qu'il s'en empare.
29 And the Chaldaeans, who are fighting against this town, will come and put the town on fire, burning it together with the houses, on the roofs of which perfumes have been burned to the Baal, and drink offerings have been drained out to other gods, moving me to wrath.
Et les Chaldéens qui font la guerre à cette ville, vont arriver, et mettre le feu à cette ville, et la brûler, ainsi que les maisons sur les toits desquelles ils ont encensé Baal, et offert des libations à d'autres dieux, afin de me provoquer.
30 For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done nothing but evil in my eyes from their earliest years: the children of Israel have only made me angry with the work of their hands, says the Lord.
Car les enfants d'Israël et les enfants de Juda n'ont fait que ce qui est mal à mes yeux dès leur jeunesse; car les enfants d'Israël n'ont fait que me provoquer par l'œuvre de leurs mains, dit l'Éternel,
31 For this town has been to me a cause of wrath and of burning passion from the day of its building till this day, so that I put it away from before my face:
car dans la colère et le courroux que cette ville me donne depuis le jour où elle fut bâtie, jusques aujourd'hui, j'ai résolu de l'ôter de ma vue,
32 Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to make me angry, they and their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem.
à cause de tout le mal qu'ont fait les enfants d'Israël et les enfants de Juda pour me provoquer, eux, leurs rois, leurs princes, leurs sacrificateurs et leurs prophètes, et les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem.
33 And they have been turning their backs and not their faces to me: and though I was their teacher, getting up early and teaching them, their ears were not open to teaching.
Et ils m'ont présenté le dos et non point le visage; dès le matin je les ai instruits et instruits; mais ils ne furent point dociles à recevoir la remontrance;
34 But they put their disgusting images into the house which is named by my name, making it unclean.
et ils ont placé leurs abominations dans la maison appelée de mon nom pour la souiller,
35 And they put up the high places of the Baal in the valley of the son of Hinnom, making their sons and their daughters go through the fire to Molech; which I did not give them orders to do, and it never came into my mind that they would do this disgusting thing, causing Judah to be turned out of the way.
et ils ont élevé des tertres à Baal dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom, pour offrir leurs fils et leurs filles à Moloch; ce que je n'avais point ordonné et qui ne m'était point venu dans la pensée, qu'on fît de telles horreurs pour porter Juda à pécher.
36 And now the Lord, the God of Israel, has said of this town, about which you say, It is given into the hands of the king of Babylon by the sword and by need of food and by disease:
Et maintenant, ainsi prononce cependant l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, sur cette ville dont vous dites: Elle sera livrée aux mains du roi de Babel par l'épée et la famine et la peste:
37 See, I will get them together from all the countries where I have sent them in my wrath and in the heat of my passion and in my bitter feeling; and I will let them come back into this place where they may take their rest safely.
Voici, je les recueillerai de tous les pays où je les aurai dispersés dans ma colère, et dans ma fureur, et dans mon grand courroux, et je les ferai revenir en ce lieu et habiter en sécurité,
38 And they will be my people, and I will be their God:
et ils seront mon peuple, et je serai leur Dieu;
39 And I will give them one heart and one way, so that they may go on in the worship of me for ever, for their good and the good of their children after them:
et je leur donnerai un seul cœur et une seule voie pour me craindre toujours, afin d'être heureux, eux et leurs enfants après eux.
40 And I will make an eternal agreement with them, that I will never give them up, but ever do them good; and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, so that they will not go away from me.
Et je leur donne cette alliance éternelle, que je ne cesserai de leur faire du bien, et je mettrai ma crainte dans leurs cœurs, afin qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de moi.
41 And truly, I will take pleasure in doing them good, and all my heart and soul will be given to planting them in this land in good faith.
Et ma joie à leur égard sera de leur faire du bien, et je les planterai dans ce pays, véritablement, de tout mon cœur et de toute mon âme.
42 For the Lord has said: As I have made all this great evil come on this people, so I will send on them all the good which I said about them.
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: De même que j'ai fait venir sur ce peuple tous ces grands maux, de même je ferai venir sur eux tous les biens que je leur ai promis;
43 And there will be trading in fields in this land of which you say, It is a waste, without man or beast; it is given into the hands of the Chaldaeans.
et des champs seront achetés dans ce pays duquel vous dites: « C'est un désert sans hommes ni bestiaux, il est livré aux mains des Chaldéens; »
44 Men will get fields for money, and put the business in writing, stamping the papers and having them witnessed, in the land of Benjamin and in the country round Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah and in the towns of the hill-country and in the towns of the lowland and in the towns of the South: for I will let their fate be changed, says the Lord.
on achètera des champs pour de l'argent, les lettres en seront écrites et scellées, munies du témoignage des témoins, dans le pays de Benjamin, et dans les alentours de Jérusalem, et dans les villes de Juda, et dans les villes de la montagne, et dans les villes du bas-pays, et dans les villes du Midi; car je ramènerai leurs captifs, dit l'Éternel.
