< Deuteronomy 2 >

1 Then we went back, journeying into the waste land by the way to the Red Sea, as the Lord had said to me: and we were a long time going round Mount Seir.
Dia niverina isika ka nandeha tany an-efitra tamin’ ny lalana mankany amin’ ny Ranomasina Mena, araka izay nolazain’ i Jehovah tamiko; ary nanodidina ny tendrombohitra Seïra ela ihany isika.
2 And the Lord said to me,
Dia niteny tamiko Jehovah ka nanao hoe:
3 You have been journeying round this mountain long enough: now go to the north;
Aoka izay ny nandehananareo nanodidina ity tendrombohitra ity, fa miverena hianavaratra ianareo.
4 And give the people orders, saying, You are about to go through the land of your brothers, the children of Esau, who are living in Seir; and they will have fear of you; so take care what you do:
Ary mandidia ny olona hoe: Hianareo efa handeha hamaky ny tanin’ ny taranak’ i Esao rahalahinareo, izay monina any Seïra; dia hatahotra anareo izy; nefa mitandrema tsara ianareo,
5 Make no attack on them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even space enough for a man's foot: because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for his heritage.
ka aza mila ady aminy; fa tsy hanomezako anao ny taniny, na dia eram-paladia akory aza, satria nomeko ho lovan’ i Esao ny tendrombohitra Seïra.
6 You may get food for your needs from them for a price, and water for drinking.
Vola no hamidinareo hanina aminy hohaninareo; ary vola koa no hamidinareo rano aminy hosotroinareo.
7 For the blessing of the Lord your God has been on you in all the work of your hands: he has knowledge of your wanderings through this great waste: these forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have been short of nothing.
Fa Jehovah Andriamanitrao efa nitahy anao tamin’ izay rehetra nataon’ ny tananao; fantany ny nandehananao namaky ity efitra lehibe ity; izay efa-polo taona izay Jehovah Andriamanitrao no teo aminao, ka tsy nanan-java-mahory akory ianao.
8 So we went on past our brothers, the children of Esau, living in Seir, by the road through the Arabah, from Elath and Ezion-geber. And turning, we went by the road through the waste land of Moab.
Ary raha nandalo ny taranak’ i Esao rahalahintsika izay monina any Seïra isika ary niala tamin’ ny lalana amin’ ny tani-hay sy tao Elata ary Ezion-gebera, dia nivily isika ka nandeha tamin’ ny lalana mankany amin’ ny efitr’ i Moaba.
9 And the Lord said to me, Make no attack on Moab and do not go to war with them, for I will not give you any of his land: because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for their heritage.
Dia hoy Jehovah tamiko: Aza mandrafy ny Moabita, na mila ady aminy, fa tsy hanomezako ho lovanao ny taniny, satria Ara dia nomeko ho lovan’ ny taranak’ i Lota.
10 (In the past the Emim were living there; a great people, equal in numbers to the Anakim and as tall;
(Ny Emima nonina tany fahiny, dia firenena lehibe sy maro isa ary olona lava tahaka ny Anakita.
11 They are numbered among the Rephaim, like the Anakim; but are named Emim by the Moabites.
Ireo koa no natao ho Refaïta tany aloha tahaka ny Anakita; fa ny Moabita kosa nanao azy hoe Emima.
12 And the Horites in earlier times were living in Seir, but the children of Esau took their place; they sent destruction on them and took their land for themselves, as Israel did to the land of his heritage which the Lord gave them.)
Ary ny tany Seïra dia nonenan’ ny Horita, fa ny taranak’ i Esao nandroaka azy ka nandringana azy tsy ho eo anoloany, dia nonina nisolo azy, araka ny nataon’ ny Isiraely tao amin’ ny tany izay nomen’ i Jehovah azy ho lovany.)
13 Get up now, and go over the stream Zered. So we went over the stream Zered.
Ary miaingà ianareo ankehitriny, ka mandehana mita ny lohasahan-driaka Zareda. Dia nita ny lohasahan-driaka Zareda isika.
14 Thirty-eight years had gone by from the time when we came away from Kadesh-barnea till we went over the stream Zered; by that time all the generation of the men of war among us were dead, as the Lord had said.
Ary ny andro nandehanantsika hatrany Kadesi-barnea ka hatramin’ ny nitantsika ny lohasahan-driaka Zareda dia valo amby telo-polo taona, mandra-pahalany ritran’ ny mpanafika rehetra tamin’ izany taranaka rehetra izany ka tsy nisy intsony teo amin’ ny toby, araka izay efa nianianan’ i Jehovah taminy.
15 For the hand of the Lord was against them, working their destruction, till all were dead.
Ary koa, ny tànan’ i Jehovah dia namely azy handringanana azy mandra-pahalany ritrany ka tsy nisy intsony teo amin’ ny toby.
16 So when death had overtaken all the men of war among the people,
Ary rehefa lany ritra ny mpanafika ka maty avokoa,
17 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
dia niteny tamiko Jehovah ka nanao hoe:
18 You are about to go by Ar, the limit of the country of Moab;
Ankehitriny efa hamaky ny tany Moaba ianao ka hahazo any Ara,
19 And when you come near the land of the children of Ammon, give them no cause of trouble and do not make war on them, for I will not give you any of the land of the children of Ammon for your heritage: because I have given it to the children of Lot.
dia ho tonga ao akaikin’ ny taranak’ i Amona, nefa aza mandrafy azy, na mila ady aminy; fa tsy hanomezako ho lovanao ny tanin’ ny taranak’ i Amona, satria nomeko ho lovan’ ny taranak’ i Lota izany.
20 (That land is said to have been a land of the Rephaim, for Rephaim had been living there in earlier times, but they were named Zamzummim by the Ammonites;
(Izany koa no natao ho tanin’ ny Refaïta; fa ny Refaïta no nitoetra tao tany aloha ka nataon’ ny Amonita hoe Zamzomita.
21 They were a great people, tall as the Anakim, and equal to them in number; but the Lord sent destruction on them and the children of Ammon took their place, living in their land;
Firenena lehibe sy maro isa ary olona lava tahaka ny Anakita ireny, nefa naringan’ i Jehovah tsy ho eo anoloany izy, ka ny Amonita no nonina nisolo azy,
22 As he did for the children of Esau living in Seir, when he sent destruction on the Horites before them, and they took their land where they are living to this day:
araka izay nataony koa ho an’ ny taranak’ i Esao, izay mitoetra any Seïra, fa nandringana ny Horita tsy ho eo anoloany Izy, ka dia nandroaka azy ireo ka nonina nisolo azy mandraka androany;
23 And the Avvim, living in the small towns as far as Gaza, came to destruction by the hands of the Caphtorim who came out from Caphtor and took their land.)
ary ny amin’ ny Avita, izay nonina am-bohitra hatrany Gaza, dia naringan’ ny Kaftorita, izay avy tany Kaftora, izy; ary ireo no nonina nisolo azy).
24 Get up now, and go on your journey, crossing over the valley of the Arnon: see, I have given into your hands Sihon, the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and all his land: go forward to make it yours, and make war on him,
Mitsangàna, miaingà, ka mità ny lohasahan-driaka Arnona ianareo; indro, efa natolotro eo an-tananao Sihona Amorita, mpanjakan’ i Hesbona, mbamin’ ny taniny. Santaro ny handovanao azy, ka tafiho.
25 From now on I will put the fear of you in all peoples under heaven, who, hearing of you, will be shaking with fear and grief of heart because of you.
Anio no vao hataoko mahazo ny firenena ambanin’ ny lanitra rehetra ny horohoro sy tahotra anareo, ka raha reny ny lazanao, dia hangovitra sy hangorohoro eo anoloanao izy.
26 Then from the waste land of Kedemoth I sent representatives to Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,
Dia naniraka olona avy tany an-efitr’ i Kedemota aho hankany amin’ i Sihona, mpanjakan’ i Hesbona, nitondra teny fihavanana hoe:
27 Let me go through your land: I will keep to the highway, not turning to the right or to the left;
Aoka mba handeha hamaky ny taninao aho; ny lalambe ihany no halehako, ka tsy hivily aho, na ho amin’ ny ankavanana, na ho amin’ ny ankavia;
28 Let me have food, at a price, for my needs, and water for drinking: only let me go through on foot;
vola no hamidiko hanina aminao hohaniko, ary vola no hamidiko rano aminao hosotroiko; ary handalo fotsiny ihany aho
29 As the children of Esau did for me in Seir and the Moabites in Ar; till I have gone over Jordan into the land which the Lord our God is giving us.
(araka izay nataon’ ny taranak’ i Esao, izay monina any Moabita, izay monina any Ara, tamiko) mandra-pitako an’ i Jordana ho any amin’ ny tany izay omen’ i Jehovah Andriamanitray anay.
30 But Sihon, king of Heshbon, would not let us go through; for the Lord your God made his spirit hard and his heart strong, so that he might give him up into your hands as at this day.
Fa Sihona, mpanjakan’ i Hesbona, tsy nety namela antsika handeha hamaky ny taniny; fa Jehovah Andriamanitrao nanamafy ny fony sy nampahaditra ny fanahiny, mba hanolorany azy eo an-tananao tahaka ny amin’ izao anio izao.
31 And the Lord said to me, See, from now on I have given Sihon and his land into your hands: go forward now to take his land and make it yours.
Dia niteny tamiko hoe Jehovah: Indro, vao manomboka hanolotra an’ i Sihona sy ny taniny eo anoloanao Aho; santaro ny handovanao ny taniny.
32 Then Sihon came out against us with all his people, to make an attack on us at Jahaz.
Dia nivoaka Sihona mbamin’ ny vahoakany rehetra hiady amintsika tao Jahaza.
33 And the Lord our God gave him into our hands; and we overcame him and his sons and all his people.
Dia nanolotra azy teo anoloantsika Jehovah Andriamanitsika, ka nandresy azy sy ny zanany ary ny vahoakany rehetra isika.
34 At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any:
Ary nahafaka ny tanànany rehetra tamin’ izany andro izany isika ka nandringana ny mponina rehetra tamin’ ny isan-tanàna mbamin’ ny zaza amim-behivavy; tsy nasiantsika niangana izy na dia iray akory aza.
35 Only the cattle we took for ourselves, with the goods from the towns we had taken.
Ny biby fiompy sy ny fananany tao amin’ ny tanàna izay afatsika ihany no nataontsika ho babo.
36 From Aroer on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and from the town in the valley as far as Gilead, no town was strong enough to keep us out; the Lord our God gave them all into our hands:
Hatrany Aroera, izay eo amoron’ ny lohasahan-driaka Arnona, dia hatramin’ ny tanàna izay ao an-dohasaha ka hatrany Gileada, dia tsy nisy tanàna tsy afatsika; fa izy rehetra dia natolotr’ i Jehovah Andriamanitsika teo anoloantsika.
37 But you did not go near the land of the children of Ammon, that is, all the side of the river Jabbok or the towns of the hill-country, wherever the Lord our God had said we were not to go.
Kanefa ny tanin’ ny taranak’ i Amona no tsy nakekenareo, dia ny tany amoron’ ny lohasahan-driaka Jaboka, sy ny tanàna ao amin’ ny tany havoana, ary izay rehetra nandraran’ i Jehovah Andriamanitsika antsika.
