Deuteronomy 1
1 These are the words which Moses said to all Israel on the far side of Jordan, in the waste land in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran on the one side, and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab on the other.
Dies sind die Worte, welche Mose redete zu dem ganzen Israel jenseits des Jordans in der Wüste, in dem Flachlande, Suph gegenüber, zwischen Paran und zwischen Tophel und Laban und Chazeroth und Di-Sahab.
2 It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.
Elf Tage sind es von Choreb auf dem Wege nach dem Gebirge Seir bis Kadesch Barnea.
3 Now in the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses gave to the children of Israel all the orders which the Lord had given him for them;
Und es geschah im vierzigsten Jahre, im elften Monat, am ersten des Monats, daß Mose redete zu den Söhnen Israels nach alle dem, was Jehovah ihm an sie geboten hatte.
4 After he had overcome Sihon, king of the Amorites, ruling in Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, ruling in Ashtaroth, at Edrei:
Nachdem er Sichon geschlagen, den König der Amoriter, der in Cheschbon wohnte, und Og, den König von Baschan, der in Aschtaroth bei Edrei wohnte,
5 On the far side of Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses gave the people this law, saying,
Jenseits des Jordans im Lande Moab begann Mose dieses Gesetz zu erklären und sprach:
6 The Lord our God said to us in Horeb, You have been long enough in this mountain:
Jehovah, unser Gott, redete zu uns auf Choreb und sprach: Ihr habt viel auf diesem Berge gewohnt.
7 Make a move now, and go on your way into the hill-country of the Amorites and the places near it, in the Arabah and the hill-country and in the lowlands and in the South and by the seaside, all the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.
Wendet euch und brechet auf und kommt zum Gebirge der Amoriter und zu allen ihren Nachbarn, in dem Flachland, auf dem Gebirge und in der Niederung und im Mittag und am Gestade des Meeres, in das Land der Kanaaniter und zum Libanon bis zum großen Flusse, dem Flusse Euphrat.
8 See, all the land is before you: go in and take for yourselves the land which the Lord gave by an oath to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to their seed after them.
Siehe, Ich habe das Land vor euer Angesicht gegeben; kommet und nehmet ein das Land, das Jehovah geschworen euren Vätern, dem Abraham, dem Isaak und dem Jakob, ihnen und ihrem Samen nach ihnen zu geben.
9 At that time I said to you, I am not able to undertake the care of you by myself;
Und ich sagte zu jener Zeit zu euch und sprach: Ich allein vermag euch nicht zu tragen.
10 The Lord your God has given you increase, and now you are like the stars of heaven in number.
Jehovah, euer Gott, hat euch gemehret, und siehe, ihr seid diesen Tag wie die Sterne am Himmel an Menge.
11 May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times greater in number than you are, and give you his blessing as he has said!
Jehovah, der Gott eurer Väter, möge dazutun zu euch noch tausendmal mehr, als ihr seid, und segne euch, wie Er zu euch geredet hat!
12 How is it possible for me by myself to be responsible for you, and undertake the weight of all your troubles and your arguments?
Aber wie kann ich eure Bürde und eure Last und euren Hader allein tragen.
13 Take for yourselves men who are wise, far-seeing, and respected among you, from your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
Gebt für euch weise und einsichtsvolle und euren Stämmen bekannte Männer, auf daß ich sie euch zu Häuptern setze.
14 And you made answer and said to me, It is good for us to do as you say.
Und ihr antwortetet mir und spracht: Das Wort ist gut, das du geredet; man tue es.
15 So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men and respected, and made them rulers over you, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds and captains of fifties and captains of tens, and overseers of your tribes.
Und ich nahm die Häupter eurer Stämme, weise und bekannte Männer, und gab sie zu Häuptern über euch; zu Obersten von Tausenden und zu Obersten von Hunderten und zu Obersten von Fünfzig und zu Obersten von Zehn und zu Vorstehern für eure Stämme;
16 And at that time I gave orders to your judges, saying, Let all questions between your brothers come before you for hearing, and give decisions uprightly between a man and his brother or one from another nation who is with him.
Und gebot euren Richtern zur selbigen Zeit und sprach: Höret zwischen euren Brüdern und richtet gerecht zwischen dem Mann und zwischen seinem Bruder und zwischen dem Fremdling.
17 In judging, do not let a man's position have any weight with you; give hearing equally to small and great; have no fear of any man, for it is God who is judge: and any cause in which you are not able to give a decision, you are to put before me and I will give it a hearing.
Ihr sollt nicht die Angesichter ansehen im Gericht. Den Kleinen wie den Großen sollt ihr hören; laßt euch nicht bangen vor dem Angesicht eines Mannes, denn das Richten ist Gottes. Ist euch eine Sache zu hart, so bringet sie vor mich dar, daß ich sie höre.
18 And at that time I gave you all the orders which you were to do.
Und ich gebot euch zur selben Zeit alle die Worte, die ihr tun sollt.
19 Then we went on from Horeb, through all that great and cruel waste which you saw, on our way to the hill-country of the Amorites, as the Lord gave us orders; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
Und wir brachen auf vom Choreb und zogen durch diese ganze so große und furchtbare Wüste, die ihr gesehen auf dem Weg zum Gebirge der Amoriter, wie Jehovah, unser Gott, uns geboten, und kamen bis Kadesch Barnea.
20 And I said to you, You have come to the hill-country of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us.
Und ich sprach zu euch: Ihr seid an das Gebirge des Amoriters gekommen, das Jehovah, unser Gott, uns gibt.
21 See now, the Lord your God has put the land into your hands: go up and take it, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has said to you; have no fear and do not be troubled.
Siehe, Jehovah, dein Gott, hat das Land vor dich hingegeben. Ziehe hinauf und nimm es ein, wie Jehovah, deiner Väter Gott, zu dir geredet hat. Fürchte dich nicht und entsetze dich nicht!
22 And you came near to me, every one of you, and said, Let us send men before us to go through the land with care and give us an account of the way we are to go and the towns to which we will come.
Und ihr nahtet allesamt zu mir und sprachet: Laß uns Männer vor uns hersenden, daß sie uns das Land ausforschen und uns Bescheid zurückbringen über den Weg, auf dem wir hinaufziehen, und die Städte, an die wir kommen sollten.
23 And what you said seemed good to me, and I took twelve men from among you, one from every tribe;
Und das Wort war gut in meinen Augen, und ich nahm aus euch zwölf Männer, einen Mann auf den Stamm.
24 And they went up into the hill-country and came to the valley of Eshcol, and saw what was there.
Und sie wandten sich und gingen das Gebirge hinauf und kamen bis zum Bachtal Eschkol und kundschafteten es aus.
25 And taking in their hands some of the fruit of the land, they came down again to us, and gave us their account, saying, It is a good land which the Lord our God is giving us.
Und sie nahmen in ihre Hand von der Frucht des Landes und brachten sie herab zu uns und brachten uns Wort zurück und sprachen: Gut ist das Land, das Jehovah, unser Gott, uns geben will.
26 But going against the order of the Lord your God, you would not go up:
Aber ihr wolltet nicht hinaufziehen und waret widerspenstig dem Munde Jehovahs, eures Gottes.
27 And you made an angry outcry in your tents, and said, In his hate for us the Lord has taken us out of the land of Egypt, to give us up into the hands of the Amorites for our destruction.
Und ihr beschwertet euch in euren Zelten und sprachet: Aus Haß hat Jehovah uns aus Ägyptenland ausgeführt, um uns in die Hand der Amoriter zu geben, uns zu vernichten.
28 Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our hearts feeble with fear by saying, The people are greater and taller than we are, and the towns are great and walled up to heaven; and more than this, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.
Wo sollen wir hinaufziehen? Unsere Brüder haben unser Herz zerfließen gemacht, als sie sagten: Größer und höher denn wir ist dies Volk; ihre Städte sind groß und bis in den Himmel befestigt, und wir haben auch Enaks Söhne dort gesehen.
29 Then I said to you, Have no fear of them.
Und ich sprach zu euch: Laßt euch nicht grauen und fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen.
30 The Lord your God who goes before you will be fighting for you, and will do such wonders as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
Jehovah, euer Gott, Der vor euch herzieht, Er wird für euch streiten, wie in allem, was Er mit euch tat in Ägypten vor euren Augen.
31 And in the waste land, where you have seen how the Lord was supporting you, as a man does his son, in all your journeying till you came to this place.
Und in der Wüste, wo du gesehen hast, wie Jehovah, dein Gott, dich trug, wie ein Mann trägt seinen Sohn, auf dem ganzen Weg, den ihr ginget, bis ihr an diesen Ort kamet.
32 But for all this, you had no faith in the Lord your God,
Und trotz diesem Worte glaubtet ihr nicht an Jehovah, euren Gott,
33 Who goes before you on your way, looking for a place where you may put up your tents, in fire by night, lighting up the way you are to go, and in a cloud by day.
Der vor euch herzog auf dem Wege, um euch den Ort auszuspähen, wo ihr lagern solltet durch das Feuer bei Nacht, auf daß ihr sehet auf dem Weg, auf dem ihr gehen solltet, und in der Wolke am Tag.
34 And the Lord, hearing your words, was angry, and said with an oath,
Und Jehovah hörte die Stimme eurer Worte und war entrüstet, und schwor und sprach:
35 Truly, not one of this evil generation will see that good land which I said I would give to your fathers,
Es soll kein Mann dieser Männer, von diesem bösen Geschlecht das gute Land sehen, das Ich euren Vätern zu geben geschworen hatte;
36 But only Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, he will see it; and to him and to his children I will give the land over which his feet have gone, because he has been true to the Lord with all his heart.
Außer Kaleb, Jephunnehs Sohn. Er soll es sehen, und ihm will Ich das Land geben, das er betreten hatte, und seinen Söhnen, dafür, daß er vollständig Jehovah nachgefolgt.
37 And, in addition, the Lord was angry with me because of you, saying, You yourself will not go into it:
Auch über mich zürnte Jehovah euretwegen und sprach: Auch du sollst nicht dahin kommen.
38 Joshua, the son of Nun, your servant, he will go into the land: say to him that he is to be strong, for he will be Israel's guide into their heritage.
Jehoschua, der Sohn Nuns, der vor dir steht, er soll dahin kommen; ihn stärke; denn er soll es Israel zum Erbe verteilen.
39 And your little ones, who, you said, would come into strange hands, your children, who now have no knowledge of good or evil, they will go into that land, and to them I will give it and it will be theirs.
Und eure Kindlein, von denen ihr sagtet: Sie werden zum Raube werden; und eure Söhne, die diesen Tag nicht wissen, was gut oder böse ist; sie sollen dahin kommen, und ihnen will Ich es geben, und sie sollen es erblich besitzen.
40 But as for you, go back, journeying into the waste land by the way of the Red Sea.
Ihr aber, wendet euch ab und brechet auf nach der Wüste auf dem Weg dem Schilfmeere zu.
41 Then you said to me, We have done evil against the Lord, we will go up to the attack, as the Lord our God has given us orders. And arming yourselves every one, you made ready to go up without care into the hill-country.
Und ihr antwortetet und sprachet zu mir: Wir haben gesündigt wider Jehovah, wir wollen hinaufziehen und streiten gemäß allem, das Jehovah, unser Gott, uns geboten hat. Und jeder Mann gürtete sich mit seinen Kriegswaffen und waret dafür, auf das Gebirge hinaufzuziehen.
42 And the Lord said to me, Say to them, Do not go up to the attack; for I am not among you, and you will be overcome by those who are against you.
Und Jehovah sprach zu mir: Sprich zu ihnen: Ziehet nicht hinauf und streitet nicht, denn Ich bin nicht in eurer Mitte, auf daß ihr nicht geschlagen werdet vor euren Feinden.
43 This I said to you, but you gave no attention and went against the orders of the Lord, and in your pride went up into the hill-country.
Und ich redete zu euch; ihr aber hörtet nicht, und waret widerspenstig gegen Jehovahs Mund, und waret vermessen und zoget hinauf auf das Gebirge.
44 And the Amorites who were in the hill-country came out against you and put you to flight, rushing after you like bees, and overcame you in Seir, driving you even as far as Hormah.
Und der Amoriter, der auf diesem Gebirge wohnte, ging aus, euch entgegen; und sie setzten euch nach, wie die Bienen tun, und zerstießen euch von Seir bis Chormah.
45 And you came back, weeping before the Lord; but the Lord gave no attention to your cries and did not give ear to you.
Und ihr kehrtet zurück und weintet vor Jehovah; Jehovah hörte aber nicht auf eure Stimme und gab euch kein Gehör.
46 So you were kept waiting in Kadesh for a long time.
Und ihr wohntet in Kadesch viele Tage, gemäß den Tagen eures Wohnens.
