2 Samuel 16
1 And when David had gone a little way past the top of the slope, Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, came to him, with two asses on which were two hundred cakes of bread and a hundred stems of dry grapes and a hundred summer fruits and a skin of wine.
Lorsque David eut un peu dépassé le sommet, voici, Tsiba, serviteur de Mephiboscheth, vint au-devant de lui avec deux ânes bâtés, sur lesquels il y avait deux cents pains, cent masses de raisins secs, cent de fruits d’été, et une outre de vin.
2 And David said to Ziba, What is your reason for this? And Ziba said, The asses are for the use of the king's people, and the bread and the fruit are food for the young men; and the wine is for drink for those who are overcome by weariness in the waste land.
Le roi dit à Tsiba: Que veux-tu faire de cela? Et Tsiba répondit: Les ânes serviront de monture à la maison du roi, le pain et les fruits d’été sont pour nourrir les jeunes gens, et le vin pour désaltérer ceux qui seront fatigués dans le désert.
3 And the king said, And where is your master's son? And Ziba said, He is still at Jerusalem: for he said, Today Israel will give back to me the kingdom of my father.
Le roi dit: Où est le fils de ton maître? Et Tsiba répondit au roi: Voici, il est resté à Jérusalem, car il a dit: Aujourd’hui la maison d’Israël me rendra le royaume de mon père.
4 Then the king said to Ziba, Truly everything which was Mephibosheth's is yours. And Ziba said, I give honour to my lord, may I have grace in your eyes, my lord, O king!
Le roi dit à Tsiba: Voici, tout ce qui appartient à Mephiboscheth est à toi. Et Tsiba dit: Je me prosterne! Que je trouve grâce à tes yeux, ô roi mon seigneur!
5 And when King David came to Bahurim, a man of Saul's family named Shimei, the son of Gera, came out from there, calling curses after him.
David était arrivé jusqu’à Bachurim. Et voici, il sortit de là un homme de la famille et de la maison de Saül, nommé Schimeï, fils de Guéra. Il s’avança en prononçant des malédictions,
6 And he sent stones at David and at all the king's servants and at all the people and at all the men of war by his side, on the right hand and on the left.
et il jeta des pierres à David et à tous les serviteurs du roi David, tandis que tout le peuple et tous les hommes vaillants étaient à la droite et à la gauche du roi.
7 And Shimei said, with curses, Be gone, be gone, you man of blood, you good-for-nothing:
Schimeï parlait ainsi en le maudissant: Va-t’en, va-t’en, homme de sang, méchant homme!
8 The Lord has sent punishment on you for all the blood of the family of Saul, whose kingdom you have taken; and the Lord has given the kingdom to Absalom, your son: now you yourself are taken in your evil, because you are a man of blood.
L’Éternel fait retomber sur toi tout le sang de la maison de Saül, dont tu occupais le trône, et l’Éternel a livré le royaume entre les mains d’Absalom, ton fils; et te voilà malheureux comme tu le mérites, car tu es un homme de sang!
9 Then Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said to the king, Is this dead dog to go on cursing my lord the king? let me go over and take off his head.
Alors Abischaï, fils de Tseruja, dit au roi: Pourquoi ce chien mort maudit-il le roi mon seigneur? Laisse-moi, je te prie, aller lui couper la tête.
10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Let him go on cursing, for the Lord has said, Put a curse on David, and who then may say, Why have you done so?
Mais le roi dit: Qu’ai-je affaire avec vous, fils de Tseruja? S’il maudit, c’est que l’Éternel lui a dit: Maudis David! Qui donc lui dira: Pourquoi agis-tu ainsi?
11 And David said to Abishai and to all his servants, You see how my son, the offspring of my body, has made designs against my life: how much more then may this Benjamite do so? Let him be, and let him go on cursing; for the Lord has given him orders.
Et David dit à Abischaï et à tous ses serviteurs: Voici, mon fils, qui est sorti de mes entrailles, en veut à ma vie; à plus forte raison ce Benjamite! Laissez-le, et qu’il maudisse, car l’Éternel le lui a dit.
12 It may be that the Lord will take note of my wrongs, and give me back good in answer to his cursing of me today.
Peut-être l’Éternel regardera-t-il mon affliction, et me fera-t-il du bien en retour des malédictions d’aujourd’hui.
13 So David and his men went on their way: and Shimei went by the hillside parallel with them, cursing and sending stones and dust at him.
David et ses gens continuèrent leur chemin. Et Schimeï marchait sur le flanc de la montagne près de David, et, en marchant, il maudissait, il jetait des pierres contre lui, il faisait voler la poussière.
14 And the king and his people came tired to Jordan, and took their rest there.
Le roi et tout le peuple qui était avec lui arrivèrent à Ajephim, et là ils se reposèrent.
15 And Absalom and the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.
Absalom et tout le peuple, les hommes d’Israël, étaient entrés dans Jérusalem; et Achitophel était avec Absalom.
16 Then Hushai the Archite, David's friend, came to Absalom and said, Long life to the king, long life to the king!
Lorsque Huschaï, l’Arkien, ami de David, fut arrivé auprès d’Absalom, il lui dit: Vive le roi! Vive le roi!
17 And Absalom said, Is this your love for your friend? why did you not go with your friend?
Et Absalom dit à Huschaï: Voilà donc l’attachement que tu as pour ton ami! Pourquoi n’es-tu pas allé avec ton ami?
18 And Hushai said to Absalom, Not so; I am for that man whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel have taken as king, and I will take my place with him.
Huschaï répondit à Absalom: C’est que je veux être à celui qu’ont choisi l’Éternel et tout ce peuple et tous les hommes d’Israël, et c’est avec lui que je veux rester.
19 And more than this! where is my place as a servant? is it not before his son? as I have been your father's servant, so will I be yours.
D’ailleurs, qui servirai-je? Ne sera-ce pas son fils? Comme j’ai servi ton père, ainsi je te servirai.
20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, Give your opinion now, what are we to do?
Absalom dit à Achitophel: Consultez ensemble; qu’avons-nous à faire?
21 And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's women who are here looking after his house; then all Israel will have the news that you are hated by your father, and the hands of your supporters will be strong.
Et Achitophel dit à Absalom: Va vers les concubines que ton père a laissées pour garder la maison; ainsi tout Israël saura que tu t’es rendu odieux à ton père, et les mains de tous ceux qui sont avec toi se fortifieront.
22 So they put up the tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father's women before the eyes of all Israel.
On dressa pour Absalom une tente sur le toit, et Absalom alla vers les concubines de son père, aux yeux de tout Israël.
23 In those days the opinions of Ahithophel were valued as highly as if through him a man might get direction from God; so were they valued by David as much as by Absalom.
Les conseils donnés en ce temps-là par Achitophel avaient autant d’autorité que si l’on eût consulté Dieu lui-même. Il en était ainsi de tous les conseils d’Achitophel, soit pour David, soit pour Absalom.
