2 Samuel 1
1 Now after the death of Saul, when David, having come back from the destruction of the Amalekites, had been in Ziklag for two days;
Et il arriva, après la mort de Saül, quand David fut revenu d’avoir frappé Amalek, que David habita deux jours à Tsiklag.
2 On the third day a man came from Saul's tents, with his clothing out of order and earth on his head: and when he came to David, he went down on the earth and gave him honour.
Et, le troisième jour, voici, un homme vint du camp, d’auprès de Saül, ses vêtements déchirés et de la terre sur sa tête; et aussitôt qu’il arriva auprès de David, il tomba contre terre et se prosterna.
3 And David said to him, Where have you come from? And he said, I have come in flight from the tents of Israel.
Et David lui dit: D’où viens-tu? Et il lui dit: Je me suis échappé du camp d’Israël.
4 And David said to him, How did things go? Give me the news. And in answer he said, The people have gone in flight from the fight, and a great number of them are dead; and Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.
Et David lui dit: Que s’est-il passé? raconte-le-moi, je te prie. Et il dit que le peuple s’était enfui de la bataille, et que beaucoup d’entre le peuple étaient tombés et étaient morts, et que Saül aussi et Jonathan, son fils, étaient morts.
5 And David said to the young man who gave him the news, Why are you certain that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?
Et David dit au jeune homme qui lui racontait [ces choses]: Comment sais-tu que Saül et Jonathan, son fils, sont morts?
6 And the young man said, I came by chance to Mount Gilboa, and I saw Saul supporting himself on his spear; and the war-carriages and horsemen overtook him.
Et le jeune homme qui lui rapportait [ces choses] dit: Je passais par aventure sur la montagne de Guilboa; et voici, Saül s’appuyait sur sa lance, et voici, les chars et les gens de cheval le serraient de près.
7 And looking back, he saw me and gave a cry to me. And answering him I said, Here am I.
Et il se tourna en arrière et me vit, et m’appela; et je dis: Me voici.
8 And he said to me, Who are you? And I said, I am an Amalekite.
Et il me dit: Qui es-tu? Et je lui dis: Je suis Amalékite.
9 Then he said to me, Come here to my side, and put me to death, for the pain of death has me in its grip but my life is still strong in me.
Et il me dit: Tiens-toi, je te prie, sur moi, et tue-moi, car l’angoisse m’a saisi, parce que ma vie est encore toute en moi.
10 So I put my foot on him and gave him his death-blow, because I was certain that he would not go on living after his fall: and I took the crown from his head and the band from his arm, and I have them here for my lord.
Alors je me suis tenu sur lui, et je l’ai mis à mort; car je savais qu’il ne vivrait pas après sa chute; et j’ai pris la couronne qui était sur sa tête et le bracelet qui était à son bras, et je les ai apportés ici à mon seigneur.
11 Then David gave way to bitter grief, and so did all the men who were with him:
Alors David saisit ses vêtements et les déchira; et tous les hommes qui étaient avec lui [firent] de même;
12 And till evening they gave themselves to sorrow and weeping, and took no food, weeping for Saul and for Jonathan, his son, and for the people of the Lord and for the men of Israel; because they had come to their end by the sword.
et ils menèrent deuil, et pleurèrent, et jeûnèrent jusqu’au soir sur Saül et sur Jonathan, son fils, et sur le peuple de l’Éternel, et sur la maison d’Israël, parce qu’ils étaient tombés par l’épée.
13 And David said to the young man who had given him the news, Where do you come from? And he said, I am the son of a man from a strange land; I am an Amalekite.
Et David dit au jeune homme qui lui avait rapporté [ces choses]: D’où es-tu? Et il dit: Je suis fils d’un homme étranger, d’un Amalékite.
14 And David said to him, Had you no fear of stretching out your hand to put to death the one marked with the holy oil?
Et David lui dit: Comment n’as-tu pas craint d’étendre ta main pour tuer l’oint de l’Éternel?
15 And David sent for one of his young men and said, Go near and put an end to him. And he put him to death.
Alors David appela un des jeunes hommes et [lui] dit: Approche [et] jette-toi sur lui! Et il le frappa, et il mourut.
16 And David said to him, May your blood be on your head; for your mouth has given witness against you, saying, I have put to death the man marked with the holy oil.
Et David lui dit: Ton sang soit sur ta tête, car ta bouche a témoigné contre toi, disant: J’ai mis à mort l’oint de l’Éternel.
17 Then David made this song of grief for Saul and Jonathan, his son:
Et David prononça sur Saül et sur Jonathan, son fils, cette complainte;
18 (It is recorded in the book of Jashar for teaching to the sons of Judah) and he said:
et il dit d’enseigner aux fils de Juda [le chant de] l’Arc; voici, il est écrit au livre de Jashar:
19 The glory, O Israel, is dead on your high places! How have the great ones been made low!
Ton ornement, ô Israël, est tué sur tes hauts lieux. Comment les hommes forts sont-ils tombés!
20 Give no news of it in Gath, let it not be said in the streets of Ashkelon; or the daughters of the Philistines will be glad, the daughters of men without circumcision will be uplifted in joy.
Ne le racontez pas dans Gath, n’en portez pas la nouvelle dans les rues d’Askalon; de peur que les filles des Philistins ne se réjouissent, de peur que les filles des incirconcis ne tressaillent de joie.
21 O mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain on you, you fields of death: for there the arms of the strong have been shamed, the arms of Saul, as if he had not been marked with the holy oil.
Montagnes de Guilboa, qu’il n’y ait pas de rosée, pas de pluie sur vous, ni des champs d’offrandes; car là fut jeté comme une chose souillée le bouclier des hommes forts, le bouclier de Saül, [comme s’il n’avait] pas été oint d’huile.
22 From the blood of the dead, from the fat of the strong, the bow of Jonathan was not turned back, the sword of Saul did not come back unused.
L’arc de Jonathan ne se retirait pas du sang des tués [et] de la graisse des hommes forts; et l’épée de Saül ne retournait pas à vide.
23 Saul and Jonathan were loved and pleasing; in their lives and in their death they were not parted; they went more quickly than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
Saül et Jonathan, aimés et agréables dans leur vie, n’ont pas été séparés dans leur mort. Ils étaient plus rapides que les aigles, plus forts que les lions.
24 O daughters of Israel, have sorrow for Saul, by whom you were delicately clothed in robes of red, with ornaments of gold on your dresses.
Filles d’Israël, pleurez sur Saül, qui vous revêtait d’écarlate, magnifiquement, qui a couvert vos vêtements d’ornements d’or.
25 How have the great ones been made low in the fight! Jonathan is dead on your high places.
Comment les hommes forts sont-ils tombés au milieu de la bataille! Comment Jonathan a-t-il été tué sur tes hauts lieux!
26 I am full of grief for you, my brother Jonathan: very dear have you been to me: your love for me was a wonder, greater than the love of women.
Je suis dans l’angoisse à cause de toi, Jonathan, mon frère! Tu étais pour moi plein de charmes; ton amour pour moi était merveilleux, plus [grand] que l’amour des femmes.
27 How have the great ones been made low, and the arms of war broken!
Comment sont tombés les hommes forts, et ont péris les instruments de guerre!
