2 Chronicles 18

1 Now Jehoshaphat had great wealth and honour, and his son was married to Ahab's daughter.

Als Josaphat aber Reichtum und Ehre in Fülle erlangt hatte, verschwägerte er sich mit Ahab

2 And after some years he went down to Samaria to see Ahab. And Ahab made a feast for him and the people who were with him, putting to death great numbers of sheep and oxen; and he got Jehoshaphat to go with him to Ramoth-gilead.

und begab sich dann einige Jahre später auf Besuch zu Ahab nach Samaria hinab. Da ließ Ahab für ihn und sein Gefolge Kleinvieh und Rinder in Menge schlachten und beredete ihn, am Feldzuge gegen Ramoth in Gilead teilzunehmen.

3 For Ahab, king of Israel, said to Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead? And he said, I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war.

Der König Ahab von Israel richtete nämlich an den König Josaphat von Juda die Frage: »Willst du mit mir gegen Ramoth in Gilead ziehen?« Da erwiderte er ihm: »Ich will sein wie du: mein Volk (oder Heer) wie dein Volk (oder Heer); ja ich will mit dir zu Felde ziehen!«

4 Then Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Let us now get directions from the Lord.

Als Josaphat dann dem König von Israel riet, zunächst doch den Willen des HERRN zu erforschen,

5 So the king of Israel got together all the prophets, four hundred men, and said to them, Am I to go to Ramoth-gilead to make war or not? And they said, Go up: for God will give it into the hands of the king.

ließ der König von Israel die Propheten zusammenkommen, vierhundert Mann, und fragte sie: »Sollen wir gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde ziehen, oder soll ich es unterlassen?« Sie antworteten: »Ziehe hin, denn Gott wird es dem König in die Hand geben!«

6 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there no other prophet of the Lord here from whom we may get directions?

Da fragte Josaphat: »Ist hier sonst kein Prophet des HERRN mehr, durch den wir Auskunft erhalten könnten?«

7 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is still one man by whom we may get directions from the Lord, but I have no love for him, because he has never been a prophet of good to me, but only of evil: he is Micaiah, the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

Der König von Israel erwiderte dem Josaphat: »Es ist wohl noch einer da, durch den wir den HERRN befragen könnten; aber ich habe nicht gern mit ihm zu tun, denn er weissagt mir niemals Gutes, sondern immer nur Unglück; das ist Micha, der Sohn Jimlas.« Aber Josaphat entgegnete: »Der König wolle nicht so reden!«

8 Then the king of Israel sent for one of his unsexed servants and said, Go quickly and come back with Micaiah, the son of Imla.

Da rief der König von Israel einen Kammerherrn und befahl ihm, schleunigst Micha, den Sohn Jimlas, zu holen.

9 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, were seated on their seats of authority, dressed in their robes, by the doorway into Samaria; and all the prophets were acting as prophets before them.

Während nun der König von Israel und der König Josaphat von Juda ein jeder auf seinem Thron in ihren Königsgewändern auf dem freien Platz am Eingang des Stadttores von Samaria saßen und alle Propheten vor ihnen weissagten,

10 And Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, made himself iron horns and said, The Lord says, Pushing back the Aramaeans with these, you will put an end to them completely.

machte sich Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, eiserne Hörner und rief aus: »So spricht der HERR: ›Mit solchen Hörnern wirst du die Syrer niederstoßen, bis du sie vernichtet hast!‹«

11 And all the prophets said the same thing, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and it will go well for you, for the Lord will give it into the hands of the king.

Ebenso weissagten auch alle anderen Propheten, indem sie riefen: »Ziehe hin nach Ramoth in Gilead: du wirst Glück haben, denn der HERR wird es dem König in die Hand fallen lassen.«

12 Now the servant who had gone to get Micaiah said to him, See now, all the prophets with one voice are saying good things to the king; so let your words be like theirs, and say good things.

Der Bote aber, der hingegangen war, um Micha zu holen, sagte zu ihm: »Siehe, die (übrigen) Propheten haben dem König einstimmig Glück verheißen; so schließe du dich doch ihrem einmütigen Ausspruche an und prophezeie ebenfalls Glück!«

13 And Micaiah said, By the living Lord, whatever the Lord says to me I will say.

Micha aber antwortete: »So wahr der HERR lebt! Nur was mein Gott mir eingeben wird, das werde ich verkünden!«

14 When he came to the king, the king said to him, Micaiah, are we to go to Ramoth-gilead to make war or not? And he said, Go up, and it will go well for you; and they will be given up into your hands.

Als er nun zum König kam, fragte dieser ihn: »Micha, sollen wir gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde ziehen, oder soll ich es unterlassen?« Er antwortete: »Zieht hin, ihr werdet Glück haben, denn sie werden euch in die Hand geliefert werden!«

15 And the king said to him, Have I not, again and again, put you on your oath to say nothing to me but what is true in the name of the Lord?

Da entgegnete ihm der König: »Wie oft soll ich dich beschwören, daß du mir nichts verkündest als die reine Wahrheit im Namen des HERRN?«

16 Then he said, I saw all Israel wandering on the mountains like sheep without a keeper; and the Lord said, These have no master: let them go back, every man to his house in peace.

Da sagte Micha: »Ich habe ganz Israel zerstreut auf den Bergen gesehen wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben; der HERR aber sagte: ›Diese haben keinen Herrscher mehr: ein jeder (von ihnen) möge in Frieden nach Hause zurückkehren!‹«

17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not say that he would not be a prophet of good to me, but of evil?

Da sagte der König von Israel zu Josaphat: »Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, daß er mir niemals Glück, sondern nur Unheil prophezeit?«

18 Then he said, Give ear now to the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord seated on his seat of power, and all the army of heaven in their places, at his right hand and at his left.

Micha aber fuhr fort: »Darum vernehmet das Wort des HERRN! Ich habe den HERRN auf seinem Throne sitzen sehen, während das ganze himmlische Heer ihm zur Rechten und zur Linken stand.

19 And the Lord said, How may Ahab, king of Israel, be tricked into going up to Ramoth-gilead to his death? And one said one thing and one another.

Da fragte der HERR: ›Wer will Ahab, den König von Israel, betören, daß er zu Felde ziehe und bei Ramoth in Gilead falle?‹ Da erwiderte der eine dies, der andere das,

20 Then a spirit came forward and took his place before the Lord and said, I will get him to do it by a trick. And the Lord said to him, How?

bis endlich der (oder ein) Geist vortrat, sich vor den HERRN stellte und sagte: ›Ich will ihn betören!‹ Der HERR fragte ihn: ›Auf welche Weise?‹

21 And he said, I will go out and be a spirit of deceit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said, Your trick will have its effect on him: go out and do so.

Da antwortete er: ›Ich will hingehen und zum Lügengeist im Munde aller seiner Propheten werden.‹ Da sagte der HERR: ›Du sollst ihn betören, und es wird dir auch gelingen! Geh hin und tu so!‹

22 And now, see, the Lord has put a spirit of deceit in the mouth of these prophets of yours; and the Lord has said evil against you.

Nun denn, siehe! Der HERR hat diesen deinen Propheten einen Geist der Lüge in den Mund gelegt; denn der HERR hat Unglück für dich beschlossen.«

23 Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, came near and gave Micaiah a blow on the side of his face, saying, Where is the spirit of the Lord whose word is in you?

Da trat Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, auf Micha zu und gab ihm einen Backenstreich mit den Worten: »Auf welchem Wege sollte denn der Geist des HERRN von mir gewichen sein, um mit dir zu reden?«

24 And Micaiah said, Truly, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to keep yourself safe.

Micha entgegnete: »Du wirst es an jenem Tage erfahren, an welchem du dich aus einem Gemach in das andere begeben wirst, um dich zu verstecken!«

25 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon, the ruler of the town, and to Joash, the king's son;

Hierauf befahl der König von Israel: »Nehmt Micha und führt ihn zum Stadthauptmann Amon und zum königlichen Prinzen Joas zurück

26 And say, By the king's order this man is to be put in prison, and given prison food till I come back in peace.

und meldet dort: ›So hat der König befohlen: Werft diesen Menschen ins Gefängnis und erhaltet ihn notdürftig mit Brot und Wasser am Leben, bis ich wohlbehalten heimkehre!‹«

27 And Micaiah said, If you come back at all in peace, the Lord has not sent his word by me.

Micha antwortete: »Wenn du wirklich wohlbehalten heimkehrst, so hat der HERR nicht durch mich geredet!« Er fügte dann noch hinzu: »Hört dies, ihr Völker alle!«

28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, went up to Ramoth-gilead.

Als hierauf der König von Israel und Josaphat, der König von Juda, gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde gezogen waren,

29 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will make a change in my clothing, so that I do not seem to be the king, and will go into the fight; but do you put on your robes. So the king of Israel made a change in his dress, and they went to the fight.

sagte der König von Israel zu Josaphat: »Ich will mich verkleiden und so in die Schlacht gehen; du aber magst deine gewöhnliche Kleidung anbehalten.« So verkleidete sich denn der König von Israel, und sie zogen in die Schlacht.

30 Now the king of Aram had given orders to the captains of his war-carriages, saying, Make no attack on small or great, but only on the king of Israel.

Der König von Syrien hatte aber den Befehlshabern seiner Kriegswagen den bestimmten Befehl erteilt: »Ihr sollt niemand angreifen, er sei gering oder vornehm, sondern nur den König von Israel!«

31 So when the captains of the war-carriages saw Jehoshaphat, they said, It is the king of Israel. And turning about, they came round him, but Jehoshaphat gave a cry, and the Lord came to his help, and God sent them away from him.

Als nun die Befehlshaber der Kriegswagen Josaphat zu Gesicht bekamen, dachten sie, daß er der König von Israel sei, und wandten sich von allen Seiten gegen ihn, um ihn anzugreifen. Da erhob Josaphat ein Geschrei, und der HERR half ihm, indem Gott sie von ihm weglockte.

32 Now when the captains of the war-carriages saw that he was not the king of Israel, they went back from going after him.

Sobald nämlich die Befehlshaber der Wagen erkannt hatten, daß er nicht der König von Israel sei, wandten sie sich von ihm ab.

33 And a certain man sent an arrow from his bow without thought of its direction, and gave the king of Israel a wound where his breastplate was joined to his clothing; so he said to the driver of his war-carriage, Go to one side and take me away out of the army, for I am badly wounded.

Ein Mann aber spannte seinen Bogen aufs Geratewohl und traf den König von Israel zwischen den Ringelgurt und den Panzer. Da befahl er seinem Wagenlenker: »Wende um und bringe mich vom Schlachtfelde weg, denn ich bin verwundet!«

34 But the fight became more violent while the day went on; and the king of Israel was supported in his war-carriage facing the Aramaeans till the evening; and by sundown he was dead.

Da aber der Kampf an jenem Tage immer heftiger entbrannte, blieb der König von Israel dann doch den Syrern gegenüber aufrecht im Wagen stehen bis zum Abend; um die Zeit des Sonnenuntergangs aber starb er.
