1 Kings 5
1 Now Hiram, king of Tyre, hearing that Solomon had been made king in place of his father, sent his servants to him; for Hiram had ever been a friend to David.
Hiram, rey de Tiro, envió a sus siervos a Salomón, cuando supo que le habían ungido rey en lugar de su padre; pues Hiram había sido siempre amigo de David.
2 And Solomon sent back word to Hiram, saying,
Salomón, por su parte, envió a decir a Hiram:
3 You have knowledge that David my father was not able to make a house for the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars which were round him on every side, till the Lord put all those who were against him under his feet.
“Bien sabes que David mi padre no pudo edificar la Casa al Nombre de Yahvé, su Dios, a causa de las guerras (con los enemigos) que le rodearon, hasta que Yahvé los puso bajo las plantas de sus pies.
4 But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; no one is making trouble, and no evil is taking place.
Mas ahora Yahvé, mi Dios, me ha dado reposo por todos lados; no hay más enemigo ni obstáculo adverso.
5 And so it is my purpose to make a house for the name of the Lord my God, as he said to David my father, Your son, whom I will make king in your place, will be the builder of a house for my name.
Por lo cual, he aquí que yo me propongo edificar una Casa al Nombre de Yahvé, mi Dios, como Yahvé lo ha ordenado a mi padre David, diciendo: ‘Tu hijo que Yo pondré en tu lugar sobre tu trono, ese edificará la Casa a mi Nombre.’
6 So now, will you have cedar-trees from Lebanon cut down for me, and my servants will be with your servants; and I will give you payment for your servants at whatever rate you say; for it is common knowledge that we have no such wood-cutters among us as the men of Zidon.
Manda, pues, que se me corten cedros en el Líbano; y mis siervos estarán con tus siervos, y te pagaré el salario de tus siervos conforme a todo lo que pidieres; porque bien sabes que no hay entre nosotros quien sepa cortar las maderas como los sidonios.”
7 And these words of Solomon made Hiram glad, and he said, Now may the Lord be praised who has given to David a wise son to be king over this great people.
Cuando Hiram oyó estas palabras de Salomón, se alegró mucho y exclamó: “¡Bendito sea hoy Yahvé que ha dado a David un hijo sabio sobre este pueblo tan grande!”
8 Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying; The words you sent have been given to me: I will do all your desire in the question of cedar-wood and cypress-wood.
Y envió Hiram a decir a Salomón: “He tomado nota de lo que me has mandado a decir. Cumpliré todos tus deseos en cuanto a las maderas de cedro y las maderas de ciprés.
9 My men will take them down from Lebanon to the sea, where I will have them corded together to go by sea to whatever place you say, and I will have them cut up there so that you may take them away; as for payment, it will be enough if you give me food for my people.
Mis siervos las bajarán desde el Líbano al mar, y yo las haré transportar en balsas por mar al lugar que tú me indiques. Allí las haré desatar y tú te las llevarás, y cumplirás, por tu parte, mi deseo, suministrando víveres a mi casa.”
10 So Hiram gave Solomon all the cedar-wood and cypress-wood he had need of;
Suministraba, pues, Hiram a Salomón maderas de cedro y maderas de ciprés, cuantas este quería,
11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of grain, as food for his people, and twenty measures of clear oil; this he did every year.
en tanto que Salomón daba a Hiram veinte mil coros de trigo para el sustento de su casa y veinte coros de aceite de olivas machacadas. Esto daba Salomón a Hiram todos los años.
12 Now the Lord had given Solomon wisdom, as he had said to him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they made an agreement together.
Y Yahvé dio a Salomón sabiduría, como se lo había prometido. Hubo, pues, paz entre Hiram y Salomón, e hicieron los dos alianza.
13 Then King Solomon got together men for the forced work through all Israel, thirty thousand men in number;
Hizo el rey Salomón una leva de obreros en todo Israel, la cual fue de treinta mil hombres.
14 And sent them to Lebanon in bands of ten thousand every month: for a month they were working in Lebanon and for two months in their country, and Adoniram was in control of them.
De esos enviaba al Líbano diez mil cada mes, por turno. Un mes estaban en el Líbano, y dos meses en sus casas. Adoniram era prefecto de los obreros de la leva.
15 Then he had seventy thousand for the work of transport, and eighty thousand stone-cutters in the mountains;
Tenía Salomón además setenta mil hombres que llevaban cargas, y ochenta mil canteros en la montaña,
16 In addition to the chiefs of the responsible men put by Solomon to oversee the work, three thousand and three hundred in authority over the workmen.
sin contar los sobrestantes de Salomón, que estaban al frente de la obra, en número de tres mil trescientos. Estos dirigían al pueblo que trabajaba en la obra.
17 By the king's orders great stones, stones of high price, were cut out, so that the base of the house might be made of squared stone.
Por orden del rey se cortaban también piedras grandes, piedras de gran precio, para hacer de piedras talladas el cimiento de la Casa.
18 Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did the work of cutting them, and put edges on them, and got the wood and the stone ready for the building of the house.
Los obreros de Salomón y los obreros de Hiram y los giblios las tallaron y prepararon las maderas y las piedras para edificar la Casa.
