1 Kings 3
1 Solomon became the son-in-law of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter as his wife, keeping her in the town of David, till the house he was building for himself, and the house of the Lord and the wall round Jerusalem, were complete.
ശലോമോൻ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലെ രാജാവായ ഫറവോന്റെ മകളെ വിവാഹംകഴിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹവുമായി ഒരു ബന്ധം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. തന്റെ അരമനയും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയവും ജെറുശലേമിനു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള മതിലും പണിതുതീരുന്നതുവരെ ശലോമോൻ അവളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തിൽ പാർപ്പിച്ചു.
2 But all this time the people were making their offerings in the high places, because no house had been put up to the name of the Lord till those days.
യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിൽ ഒരു ആലയം അന്നുവരെയും പണിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട്, ഇസ്രായേൽജനം അപ്പോഴും മലകളിൽ യാഗമർപ്പിക്കുക പതിവായിരുന്നു.
3 And Solomon, in his love for the Lord, kept the laws of David his father; but he made offerings and let them go up in smoke on the high places.
ശലോമോനും മലകളിൽ ബലികൾ അർപ്പിക്കുകയും ധൂപാർച്ചന നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. അതൊഴികെ മറ്റെല്ലാ കാര്യത്തിലും അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദിന്റെ നിർദേശങ്ങൾ പാലിച്ച് യഹോവയോടുള്ള സ്നേഹം പ്രകടമാക്കി.
4 And the king went to Gibeon to make an offering there, because that was the chief high place: it was Solomon's way to make a thousand burned offerings on that altar.
ഒരിക്കൽ, ശലോമോൻരാജാവ് യാഗങ്ങൾ അർപ്പിക്കാനായി ഗിബെയോനിലേക്കു പോയി. ആ കാലത്ത് ജനം യാഗമർപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന മലകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളത് അവിടെയായിരുന്നു. അവിടെയുള്ള യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേൽ ശലോമോൻ ആയിരം ഹോമയാഗങ്ങൾ അർപ്പിച്ചു.
5 In Gibeon, Solomon had a vision of the Lord in a dream by night; and God said to him, Say what I am to give you.
ഗിബെയോനിൽവെച്ച് ആ രാത്രിയിൽ ഒരു സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ യഹോവ ശലോമോനു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി. “നിനക്കുവേണ്ടത് എന്തായാലും ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളുക, ഞാൻ നിനക്കു തരും,” എന്നു ദൈവം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
6 And Solomon said, Great was your mercy to David my father, as his life before you was true and upright and his heart was true to you; and you have kept for him this greatest mercy, a son to take his place this day.
ശലോമോൻ അതിനു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത്: “എന്റെ പിതാവും അവിടത്തെ ദാസനുമായ ദാവീദ് അങ്ങയുടെമുമ്പാകെ സത്യസന്ധതയോടും നീതിയോടും ഹൃദയപരമാർഥതയോടുംകൂടെ ജീവിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ട്, അവിടന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് വലിയ ദയ കാണിക്കുകയും അവിടത്തെ ആ വലിയ ദയ ഇന്നുവരെ തുടരുകയും, ഇന്ന് അവന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കാൻ അവന് ഒരു മകനെ നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.
7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in the place of David my father; and I am only a young boy, with no knowledge of how to go out or come in.
“എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, അവിടന്ന് ഇപ്പോൾ ഈ ദാസനെ, അടിയന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദിനു പകരം രാജാവാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ, ഞാനോ ഒരു ബാലനത്രേ. കർത്തവ്യങ്ങൾ എങ്ങനെ നിർവഹിക്കേണം എന്നെനിക്കറിവില്ല.
8 And your servant has round him the people of your selection, a people so great that they may not be numbered, and no account of them may be given.
അങ്ങു തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തതും എണ്ണിത്തിട്ടപ്പെടുത്താൻ കഴിയാത്തവിധം അസംഖ്യവുമായ ഒരു മഹാജനതയുടെ മധ്യേ അവിടത്തെ ഈ ദാസൻ ആയിരിക്കുന്നു.
9 Give your servant, then, a wise heart for judging your people, able to see what is good and what evil; for who is able to be the judge of this great people?
അതുകൊണ്ട്, നന്മയും തിന്മയും തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് അങ്ങയുടെ ജനത്തെ ഭരിക്കാൻ വിവേകമുള്ള ഒരു ഹൃദയം അവിടത്തെ ഈ ദാസനു തരണമേ! അതില്ലാതെ അങ്ങയുടെ ഈ മഹാജനതയെ ഭരിക്കാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും?”
10 Now these words and Solomon's request were pleasing to the Lord.
ശലോമോൻ ഈ കാര്യം ചോദിച്ചതിൽ കർത്താവ് സംപ്രീതനായി.
11 And God said to him, Because your request is for this thing, and not for long life for yourself or for wealth or for the destruction of your haters, but for wisdom to be a judge of causes;
ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് പ്രതിവചിച്ചത്: “നീ ദീർഘായുസ്സോ സമ്പത്തോ ശത്രുസംഹാരമോ അപേക്ഷിക്കാതെ നീതിനിർവഹണത്തിനുള്ള വിവേകംമാത്രം അപേക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാൽ,
12 I have done as you said: I have given you a wise and far-seeing heart, so that there has never been your equal in the past, and never will there be any like you in the future.
ഞാൻ നിന്റെ അപേക്ഷപോലെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കും. ജ്ഞാനവും വിവേകവുമുള്ള ഹൃദയം ഞാൻ നിനക്കു നൽകും. നിനക്കു സമനായവൻ മുമ്പ് ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല; നിനക്കുശേഷം ഇനി ഉണ്ടാകുകയുമില്ല.
13 And with this I have given you what you made no request for: wealth and honour, so that no king was ever your equal.
ഇതു കൂടാതെ, നീ അപേക്ഷിക്കാത്തവയായ സമ്പത്തും ബഹുമതിയുംകൂടെ ഞാൻ നിനക്കു നൽകും. അതുമൂലം, രാജാക്കന്മാരിൽ നിനക്കു സമനായി യാതൊരുവനും നിന്റെ ആയുഷ്കാലത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കുകയില്ല.
14 And if you go on in my ways, keeping my laws and my orders as your father David did, I will give you a long life.
നിന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദ് ജീവിച്ചതുപോലെ നീ എന്റെ ഉത്തരവുകളും കൽപ്പനകളും അനുസരിച്ച് എന്റെ വഴികളിൽ ജീവിച്ചാൽ ഞാൻ നിനക്കു ദീർഘായുസ്സും നൽകും.”
15 And Solomon, awakening, saw that it was a dream; then he came to Jerusalem, where he went before the ark of the agreement of the Lord, offering burned offerings and peace-offerings; and he made a feast for all his servants.
ശലോമോൻ ഉറക്കമുണർന്നപ്പോൾ അത് ഒരു സ്വപ്നമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് സ്വയം മനസ്സിലാക്കി. അദ്ദേഹം ജെറുശലേമിൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു; കർത്താവിന്റെ ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ പേടകത്തിനുമുമ്പാകെ നിന്ന് ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അർപ്പിച്ചു. അതിനുശേഷം, തന്റെ സകല ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥവൃന്ദങ്ങൾക്കും അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു വിരുന്നു നൽകി.
16 Then two loose women of the town came and took their places before the king;

17 And one of them said, O my lord, I and this woman are living in the same house; and I gave birth to a child by her side in the house.
അവരിൽ ഒരുവൾ പറഞ്ഞത്: “യജമാനനേ, അടിയനും ഈ സ്ത്രീയും ഒരു വീട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ താമസിക്കുന്നു. ഇവൾ എന്റെകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ എനിക്കൊരു കുഞ്ഞുജനിച്ചു.
18 And three days after the birth of my child, this woman had a child: we were together, no other-person was with us in the house but we two only.
എനിക്കു കുഞ്ഞു ജനിച്ചതിന്റെ മൂന്നാംദിവസം ഇവൾക്കും ഒരു കുഞ്ഞുജനിച്ചു. വീട്ടിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ഒരുമിച്ചാണ് താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. വീട്ടിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ രണ്ടുപേരുമല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.
19 In the night, this woman, sleeping on her child, was the cause of its death.
“എന്നാൽ, രാത്രിയിൽ ഈ സ്ത്രീ തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞിന്റെമേൽ അറിയാതെ കിടന്നുപോയതിനാൽ അതു മരിച്ചുപോയി.
20 And she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while your servant was sleeping; and she took it in her arms and put her dead child in my arms.
അവിടത്തെ ദാസിയായ അടിയൻ ഉറക്കത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, രാത്രിയിൽ ഇവൾ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അടിയന്റെ അരികിൽനിന്നും കുഞ്ഞിനെ എടുത്ത് അവളുടെ വശത്തും തന്റെ മരിച്ച കുഞ്ഞിനെ അടിയന്റെ വശത്തും കിടത്തി.
21 And when I got up to give my child the breast, I saw that it was dead; but in the morning, looking at it with care, I saw that it was not my son.
പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ അടിയൻ കുഞ്ഞിനു മുല കൊടുക്കാനായി എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോൾ അതു മരിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നതായി കണ്ടു. എന്നാൽ, പുലർകാലവെളിച്ചത്തിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കിയപ്പോൾ അത് അടിയന്റെ കുഞ്ഞല്ലെന്ന് മനസ്സിലായി.”
22 And the other woman said, No; but the living child is my son and the dead one yours. But the first said, No; the dead child is your son and the living one mine. So they kept on talking before the king.
അപ്പോൾ മറ്റേ സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞത്: “അങ്ങനെയല്ല; ജീവനുള്ളത് എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞ്; മരിച്ച കുഞ്ഞാണു നിന്റേത്.” എന്നാൽ, ആദ്യത്തെ സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞത്: “അല്ല! മരിച്ച കുഞ്ഞാണു നിന്റേത്; ജീവനുള്ള കുഞ്ഞ് എന്റേതാണ്” ഇങ്ങനെ, അവർ രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ തർക്കിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
23 Then the king said, One says, The living child is my son, and yours is the dead: and the other says, Not so; but your son is the dead one and mine is the living.
അപ്പോൾ രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞത്: “‘ജീവനുള്ളത് എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞ്, മരിച്ചത് നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞ്,’ എന്ന് ഇവൾ പറയുന്നു; അല്ല, ‘മരിച്ചത് നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞ്, ജീവനുള്ളത് എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞ്,’ എന്ന് മറ്റവളും പറയുന്നു.”
24 Then he said, Get me a sword. So they went and put a sword before the king.
അപ്പോൾ, “ഒരു വാൾ കൊണ്ടുവരിക!” എന്നു രാജാവു കൽപ്പിച്ചു. പരിചാരകർ രാജാവിനുവേണ്ടി ഒരു വാൾ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.
25 And the king said, Let the living child be cut in two and one half given to one woman and one to the other.
അപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചത്: “ജീവനുള്ള കുഞ്ഞിനെ രണ്ടായി പിളർക്കുക; ഒരുപകുതി ഒരുവൾക്കും മറ്റേപകുതി മറ്റവൾക്കും കൊടുക്കുക.”
26 Then the mother of the living child came forward, for her heart went out to her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the child; do not on any account put it to death. But the other woman said, It will not be mine or yours; let it be cut in two.
ഉടനെ, ജീവനുള്ള കുഞ്ഞിന്റെ യഥാർഥ മാതാവ്, കുഞ്ഞിനോടുള്ള ആർദ്രസ്നേഹത്താൽ രാജാവിനോട് വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞത്: “അയ്യോ! എന്റെ യജമാനനേ, ജീവനുള്ള കുഞ്ഞിനെ കൊല്ലരുതേ! അതിനെ അവൾക്കു കൊടുത്താലും!” എന്നാൽ, മറ്റേ സ്ത്രീ: “വേണ്ട, എനിക്കും വേണ്ട നിനക്കും വേണ്ട. അതിനെ രണ്ടായി പിളർക്കട്ടെ!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
27 Then the king made answer and said, Give her the child, and do not put it to death; she is the mother of it.
ഉടനെ, രാജാവു വിധി പ്രസ്താവിച്ചത്: “ജീവനുള്ള കുഞ്ഞിനെ കൊല്ലരുത്; അതിനെ ഒന്നാമത്തെ സ്ത്രീക്കു കൊടുക്കുക; അവളാണ് അതിന്റെ അമ്മ.”
28 And news of this decision which the king had made went through all Israel; and they had fear of the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to give decisions.
രാജാവു കൽപ്പിച്ച വിധി ഇസ്രായേലെല്ലാം അറിഞ്ഞു. നീതി നടപ്പാക്കുന്നതിന് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ജ്ഞാനം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുണ്ടെന്ന് അവർക്കു ബോധ്യമായി. അതുകൊണ്ട്, ജനം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വളരെ ആദരവോടുകൂടിയാണു കണ്ടത്.
