1 Kings 19
1 Ahab gave Jezebel news of all Elijah had done, and how he had put all the prophets to death with the sword.
[厄里亞退往曷勒布山]阿哈布將厄里亞所作的一切，以及他如何刀斬眾先知的事，全告訴了依則貝耳。
2 Then Jezebel sent a servant to Elijah, saying, May the gods' punishment be on me if I do not make your life like the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.
依則貝耳就派使者去對厄里亞說：「明天這個時候，如果我不使你的性命如同那些先知一樣，願眾神明嚴厲，且加倍嚴厲地懲罰我! 」
3 And he got up, fearing for his life, and went in flight, and came to Beer-sheba in Judah, parting there from his servant;
厄里亞害了怕，遂起身逃命，到了猶大境內的貝爾舍巴，叫他的僕人留在那裏，
4 While he himself went a day's journey into the waste land, and took a seat under a broom-plant, desiring for himself only death; for he said, It is enough: now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.
自己卻進入曠野，走了一天的路，來到一棵杜松樹下，坐下來求死說：「上主啊! 現在已經夠了! 收去我的性命罷! 因為我並不如我的祖先好。」
5 And stretching himself on the earth, he went to sleep under the broom-plant; but an angel, touching him, said to him, Get up and have some food.
以後，就躺在那棵杜松樹下，睡著了；忽然，有為天使拍醒他，對他說：「起來，吃罷! 」
6 And looking up, he saw by his head a cake cooked on the stones and a bottle of water. So he took food and drink and went to sleep again.
他看了看，見頭旁有一塊用炭火烤熟的餅和一罐水；他吃了喝了，又躺下睡了。
7 And the angel of the Lord came again a second time, and touching him said, Get up and have some food, or the journey will be overmuch for your strength.
上主的使者第二次又來拍醒他說：「起來，吃罷! 因為你還有一段很遠的路。」
8 So he got up and took food and drink, and in the strength of that food he went on for forty days and nights, to Horeb, the mountain of God.
他就起來，吃了喝了，賴那食物的力量，走了四十天四十夜，一直到了天主的山曷勒布。天主顯現給厄里亞
9 And there he went into a hole in the rock for the night; then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, What are you doing here, Elijah?
他來到那裏，進了一個山洞，在那裏過夜；有上主的話傳於他說：「厄里亞，你在這裏做什麼﹖」
10 And he said, I have been burning for the honour of the Lord, the God of armies; for the children of Israel have not kept your agreement; they have made destruction of your altars, and have put your prophets to death with the sword: till I, even I, am the only one living; and now they are attempting to take away my life.
厄里亞答說：「我為上主萬軍的天主憂心如焚，因為以色列子民背棄了你的盟約，毀壞了你的祭壇，刀斬了你的先知，只剩下了我一個，他們還要奪取我的性命! 」
11 Then he said, Go out and take your place on the mountain before the Lord. Then the Lord went by, and mountains were parted by the force of a great wind, and rocks were broken before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind there was an earth-shock, but the Lord was not in the earth-shock.
上主吩咐他說：「你出來，站在山上，立在上主前面。」那時，上主正從那裏經過，在上主面前，暴風大作，裂山碎石，但是，上主卻不在風暴中；風以後有地震，但是上主亦不在地震中；
12 And after the earth-shock a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, the sound of a soft breath.
地震以後有烈火，但是上主仍不在火中；烈火以後，有輕微細弱的風聲。
13 And Elijah, hearing it, went out, covering his face with his robe, and took his place in the opening of the hole. And there a voice came to him saying, What are you doing here, Elijah?
厄里亞一聽見這聲音，即用外衣蒙住臉出來，站在洞口。遂有聲音對他說：「厄里亞，你在這裏做什麼﹖」
14 And he said, I have been burning for the honour of the Lord, the God of armies; for the children of Israel have not kept your agreement; they have had your altars broken down, and have put your prophets to death with the sword: till I, even I, am the only one living; and now they are attempting to take away my life.
他答說：「我為上主萬軍的天主憂心如焚，因為以色列子民背棄了你的盟約，毀壞了你的祭壇，刀斬了你的先知，只剩下了我一個，他們還要奪取我的性命! 」厄里亞奉命敷油
15 And the Lord said to him, Go back on your way through the waste land to Damascus; and when you come there, put the holy oil on Hazael to make him king over Aram;
上主對厄里亞說：「你回去，仍取道曠野，往大馬士革去，到了那裏，給哈匝耳敷油，立他為阿蘭王。
16 And on Jehu, son of Nimshi, making him king over Israel; and on Elisha, the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, to be prophet in your place.
去給尼默史的孫子耶胡敷油，立他為以色列王；再去給阿耳貝默曷拉人沙法特的兒子厄里叟敷油，立他接替你為先知；
17 And it will come about that the man who gets away safe from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will put to death; and whoever gets away safe from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will put to death.
將來躲過哈匝耳的刀的，必為耶胡所殺；躲過耶胡的刀的，必為厄里叟所殺。
18 But I will keep safe seven thousand in Israel, all those whose knees have not been bent to Baal, and whose mouths have given him no kisses.
然而，在以色列我要為我自己留下七千人；他們全是從未向巴耳屈過膝，未與巴耳親過嘴的人。」厄里叟蒙召
19 So he went away from there and came across Elisha, the son of Shaphat, ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen, he himself walking with the twelfth; and Elijah went up to him and put his robe on him.
厄里亞於是從那裏起身，去找沙法特的兒子厄里叟。他正在耕田，在他面前有十二對牛，他自己趕著地十二對；厄里亞走過他身邊，將自己的外衣披在他身上。
20 And letting the oxen be where they were, he came running after Elijah, and said, Only let me give a kiss to my father and mother, and then I will come after you. But he said to him, Go back again; for what have I done to you?
厄里叟? 披在的父母吻別，然後來跟隨你。」厄里亞對他說：「你去罷! 要再回來! 因為我應為你作的，已經作了。」
21 And he went back, and took the oxen and put them to death, and cooking their flesh with the yokes of the oxen, he gave the people a feast. Then he got up and went after Elijah and became his servant.
厄里叟離開了厄里亞，回來牽出一對牛宰殺了，用駕馭牛的用具煮熟，分給眾人吃；然後他便起身跟隨厄里亞，作了他的侍從。
