1 Chronicles 12
1 Now these are the men who came to David at Ziklag, while he was still shut up, because of Saul, the son of Kish; they were among the strong men, his helpers in war.
Voici ceux qui vinrent auprès de David, à Ciklag, lorsqu’il se cachait encore pour échapper à Saül, fils de Kich. Ils faisaient partie des vaillants guerriers, ses compagnons de lutte,
2 They were armed with bows, and were able to send stones, and arrows from the bow, with right hand or left: they were Saul's brothers, of Benjamin.
maniaient l’arc, lançaient des pierres de la main droite et de la gauche, et des flèches avec leurs arcs. Parmi les parents de Saül, issus de Benjamin, il y avait:
3 Ahiezer was their chief, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Beracah and Jehu the Anathothite;
le chef Ahiézer et Joas, fils de Hachemaa, de Ghibea; Yeziël et Pélet, fils de Azmavet; Berakha, Yêhou, d’Anatot;
4 And Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a great man among the thirty, and their chief; and Jeremiah and Jehaziel and Johanan and Jozabad the Gederathite;
Yichmaïa, de Gabaon, vaillant parmi les Trente, et chef des Trente; Jérémie, Yahaziël, Johanan, Yozabad, de Ghedêra;
5 Eluzai and Jerimoth and Bealiah and Shemariah and Shephatiah the Haruphite;
Elouzaï, Yerimot, Bealia, Chemariahou, Chefatiahou, de Harouf;
6 Elkanah and Isshiah and Azarel and Joezer and Jashobeam, the Korahites;
Elkana, Yichiahou, Azarêl, Yoézer, Yachobam, les Korahites;
7 And Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.

8 And some of the Gadites, siding with David, went to his strong place in the waste land, great and strong men, trained for war, expert in the use of arms, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were quick-footed like roes on the mountains;
Des Gadites se détachèrent pour passer à David, dans la forteresse du désert, vaillants héros, hommes de guerre, maniant le bouclier et la lance, ayant une apparence de lions et semblables à des chamois sur les montagnes pour la rapidité.
9 Ezer their chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
Le chef était Ezer, le second Obadia, le troisième Elïab,
10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
le quatrième Michmanna, le cinquième Jérémie,
11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
le sixième Attaï, le septième Eliël,
12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
le huitième Johanan, le neuvième Elzabad,
13 Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
le dixième Yirmeyahou, et le onzième Makhbannaï.
14 These Gadites were captains of the army; the least of them was captain over a hundred men, and the greatest over a thousand.
Tels étaient les Gadites, chefs d’armée: le plus petit en valait cent, le plus grand, mille.
15 It was they who went over Jordan in the first month, when the river was overflowing, and put to flight all the people of the valleys, to the east and to the west.
Ce sont eux qui passèrent le Jourdain dans le premier mois, quand il coule à pleins bords, et qui mirent en fuite tous les habitants de la vallée à l’Ouest et à l’Est.
16 And some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to David in his strong place.
Des Benjaminites et des Judéens rejoignirent aussi David dans la forteresse.
17 And David went out to them, and said to them, If you have come in peace to give me help, my heart will be united with yours; but if you have come to give me up to those who would take my life, though my hands are clean from wrongdoing, then may the God of our fathers see it and give you punishment.
David sortit à leur rencontre et leur adressa ces paroles: "Si c’est avec des intentions pacifiques que vous êtes venus à moi, pour m’aider, je serai de cœur avec vous; si c’est pour me livrer traîtreusement à mes ennemis, sans que j’aie commis de faute, que le Dieu de nos ancêtres voie et juge!"
18 Then the spirit came on Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, We are yours, David, we are on your side, O son of Jesse: may peace be with you and peace be with your helpers; for God is your helper. Then David took them into his army and made them captains of the band.
Alors une inspiration s’empara d’Amassaï, chef des Trente: "A toi, David, dit-il, et avec toi, fils de Jessé, paix; oui, paix à toi, et paix à tes auxiliaires, car ton Dieu t’assiste!" David alors les accueillit et les plaça à la tête des troupes.
19 And some of the men of Manasseh came over to David, when he went with the Philistines to the war against Saul, but he gave them no help: for the lords of the Philistines, after discussion, sent him away, saying, He will go back to his master Saul, at the price of our lives.
Des gens de Manassé se rallièrent aussi à David, lorsqu’il vint avec les Philistins combattre Saül; mais ils n’aidèrent pas les Philistins, car les chefs de ceux-ci, après s’être concertés, l’avaient renvoyé, en disant: "C’Est au prix de nos têtes qu’il se rallierait à son maître Saül."
20 Then when he went back to Ziklag, there came over to him, of the men of Manasseh, Adnah and Jozabad and Jediael and Michael and Jozabad and Elihu and Zillethai, captains of thousands from the armies of Manasseh.
Lorsqu’il alla à Ciklag, se joignirent à son parti, d’entre les gens de Manassé, Adna, Yozabad, Yedïaêl, Mikhaël, Yozabad, Elihou, et Cilletaï, chefs de mille en Manassé.
21 And they gave David help against the armed bands, for they were all great men of war, and captains in the army.
Ils furent un grand appui pour David à la tête des troupes, car ils étaient tous de vaillants guerriers, et ils devinrent des chefs d’armée.
22 And from day to day more supporters came to David, till he had a great army like the army of God.
Journellement, en effet, on venait à David pour l’assister, au point qu’il eut un camp grand comme celui de Dieu.
23 These are the numbers of the chiefs of the armed men, ready for war, who came to David at Hebron, to give the kingdom of Saul into his hands, as the Lord had said.
Et voici le décompte des chefs des hommes, équipés pour faire campagne, qui vinrent rejoindre David à Hébron, pour lui transférer la royauté de Saül, selon la parole de l’Eternel.
24 There were six thousand, eight hundred spearmen of the children of Judah, armed for war;
Des Judéens, portant le bouclier et la lance: six mille huit cents hommes équipés pour l’armée.
25 Seven thousand, one hundred of the children of Simeon, great men of war;
Des Siméonites, vaillants hommes d’armes: sept mille cent.
26 Of the children of Levi, four thousand, six hundred.
Des Lévites: quatre mille six cents.
27 And Jehoiada, chief of the family of Aaron, and with him three thousand, seven hundred men;
Joïada était le chef des Aaronides; il avait avec lui trois mille sept cents hommes.
28 And Zadok, a young man, great and strong in war, with twenty-two captains from his father's people.
Çadok, quoique encore jeune, était un vaillant soldat. La maison de son père comptait vingt-deux capitaines.
29 And of the children of Benjamin, the brothers of Saul, three thousand; for up to that time the greater part of them had been true to Saul.
Des Benjaminites, frères de Saül: trois mille. Jusque-là, la plupart avaient gardé leur foi à la maison de Saül.
30 And of the children of Ephraim, twenty thousand, eight hundred great men of war, men of great name in their families.
Des Ephraïmites: vingt mille huit cents, vaillants guerriers, possédant une grande renommée, répartis selon leurs familles.
31 And from the half-tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, listed by name, came to make David king.
De la demi-tribu de Manassé: dix-huit mille, désignés nominativement pour aller conférer la royauté à David.
32 And of the children of Issachar, there were two hundred chiefs, men who had expert knowledge of the times and what it was best for Israel to do, and all their brothers were under their orders.
Des gens d’Issachar, experts en la connaissance des temps pour décider la conduite à tenir par Israël, il vint deux cents chefs, auxquels obéissaient tous leurs frères.
33 Of Zebulun, there were fifty thousand men, who went out with the army, expert in ordering the fight, to give help with all sorts of arms; true-hearted men.
Des gens de Zabulon, allant à la guerre et menant le combat avec toute sorte d’armes de guerre: cinquante mille; ils gardaient leurs rangs d’un cœur ferme.
34 And of Naphtali, a thousand captains with thirty-seven thousand spearmen.
Des gens de Nephtali: mille chefs, commandant à trente-sept mille hommes, armés de boucliers et de lances.
35 And of the Danites, twenty-eight thousand, six hundred, expert in ordering the fight.
Des gens de Dan, dressés au combat: vingt-huit mille six cents.
36 And of Asher, forty thousand who went out with the army, expert in ordering the fight.
Des gens d’Aser allant à la guerre et prenant part aux combats: quarante mille.
37 From the other side of Jordan, there were a hundred and twenty thousand of the Reubenites and the Gadites and the men of the half-tribe of Manasseh, armed with every sort of instrument of war.
De la Transjordanie, en fait de Rubénites, de Gadites et de gens de la demi-tribu de Manassé, cent vingt mille hommes, armés de toute sorte d’armes de guerre.
38 All these men of war, expert in ordering the fight, came to Hebron with the full purpose of making David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel were united in their desire to make David king.
Tous ces guerriers, habitués des combats, vinrent avec enthousiasme à Hébron pour proclamer David roi sur tout Israël. Pareillement, tous les autres Israélites étaient unanimes à acclamer David.
39 For three days they were there with David, feasting at his table, for their brothers had made ready food for them.
Ils restèrent là avec David, trois jours durant, mangeant et buvant, approvisionnés par leurs frères.
40 And those who were near, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came with food on asses and camels and mules and oxen, with meal for food and cakes of figs and masses of grapes, and wine and oil and oxen and sheep in great numbers, for there was joy in Israel.
De plus, ceux qui demeuraient dans le voisinage, jusqu’à Issachar, Zabulon et Nephtali, leur apportaient des vivres à dos d’ânes, de chameaux, de mulets et de bœufs: aliments de farine, figues, raisins secs, vin, huile, viande de menu et de gros bétail en abondance, car c’était fête en Israël.
