Zephaniah 1
1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. This is the word of the LORD that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah:
La Palabra de Yavé que vino a Sofonías, hijo de Cusi, hijo de Gedalías, hijo de Amarías, hijo de Ezequías, en días de Josías, hijo de Amón, rey de Judá.
2 “I will completely sweep away everything from the face of the earth,”
Destruiré completamente todas las cosas de sobre la superficie de la tierra, dice Yavé.
3 “I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and the idols with their wicked worshipers. I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth,”
Destruiré los hombres y las bestias. Destruiré las aves del cielo y los peces del mar. Haré tropezar a los perversos y cortaré al hombre de la superficie de la tierra, dice Yavé.
4 “I will stretch out My hand against Judah and against all who dwell in Jerusalem. I will cut off from this place every remnant of Baal, the names of the idolatrous and pagan priests—
Extenderé mi mano contra Judá, contra todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. Exterminaré de este lugar lo que queda de baal, y el nombre de los ministros y sacerdotes idólatras,
5 those who bow on the rooftops to worship the host of heaven, those who bow down and swear by the LORD but also swear by Milcom,
a los que se postran sobre las azoteas ante el ejército del cielo, a los que se postran y juran por Yavé y al mismo tiempo juran por Moloc,
6 and those who turn back from following the LORD, neither seeking the LORD nor inquiring of Him.”
a los que se apartan de seguir a Yavé, y a los que no buscan a Yavé ni le consultan.
7 Be silent in the presence of the Lord GOD, for the Day of the LORD is near. Indeed, the LORD has prepared a sacrifice; He has consecrated His guests.
¡Silencio ante ʼAdonay Yavé! Porque el día de Yavé está cercano. Yavé preparó un sacrificio y escogió a sus invitados.
8 “On the Day of the LORD’s sacrifice I will punish the princes, the sons of the king, and all who are dressed in foreign apparel.
El día del sacrificio de Yavé castigaré a los principales, a los hijos del rey y a todos los que llevan ropa extranjera.
9 On that day I will punish all who leap over the threshold, who fill the house of their master with violence and deceit.
Aquel día también castigaré a todos los que asaltan la entrada, que llenan de violencia y engaño la casa de su ʼadon.
10 On that day,” declares the LORD, “a cry will go up from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second District, and a loud crashing from the hills.
Aquel día, dice Yavé, habrá voz de clamor desde la puerta del Pescado, un gemido desde la ciudad Nueva, y un estruendo enorme desde las colinas.
11 Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who weigh out silver will be cut off.
¡Giman, habitantes de Mactes, porque todo el pueblo de mercaderes está arruinado! Todos los que iban cargados de plata son exterminados.
12 And at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish the men settled in complacency, who say to themselves, ‘The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.’
En aquel tiempo escudriñaré a Jerusalén con linterna, y castigaré a los aletargados sobre los restos de su vino, a quienes dicen en su corazón: Yavé no hará bien ni mal.
13 Their wealth will be plundered and their houses laid waste. They will build houses but not inhabit them, and plant vineyards but never drink their wine.
Además sus riquezas serán saqueadas y sus casas desoladas. Edificarán casas, pero no las habitarán, plantarán viñas, pero no beberán su vino.
14 The great Day of the LORD is near— near and coming quickly. Listen, the Day of the LORD! Then the cry of the mighty will be bitter.
¡Cercano está el día grande de Yavé! Cercano y se apresura rápidamente. Escuchen el día de Yavé. Hasta el guerrero clama amargamente.
15 That day will be a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
Día de ira es aquel día, día de tribulación y angustia, día de destrucción y desolación, día de oscuridad y tenebrosidad, día de nubes y densa niebla,
16 a day of horn blast and battle cry against the fortified cities, and against the high corner towers.
día de trompeta y de griterío sobre las ciudades fortificadas y las altas torres.
17 I will bring such distress on mankind that they will walk like the blind, because they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
Atribularé a los hombres y deambularán como ciegos, porque pecaron contra Yavé. Su sangre será derramada como polvo y su carne como estiércol.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the Day of the LORD’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy.” For indeed, He will make a sudden end of all who dwell on the earth.
Ni su plata ni su oro podrán librarlos el día de la ira de Yavé, cuando el fuego de su celo consuma toda la tierra, porque ciertamente todos los que viven en la tierra serán destruidos apresuradamente.
