Zephaniah 1
1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. This is the word of the LORD that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah:
Palabra de Yahvé que llegó a Sofonías, hijo de Cushi, hijo de Gedalías, hijo de Amarías, hijo de Ezequías, en los días de Josías, hijo de Amón, rey de Judá.
2 “I will completely sweep away everything from the face of the earth,”
Barreré todo de la superficie de la tierra, dice el Señor.
3 “I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and the idols with their wicked worshipers. I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth,”
Barreré al hombre y al animal. Barreré las aves del cielo, los peces del mar y los montones de escombros con los malvados. Eliminaré al hombre de la superficie de la tierra, dice el Señor.
4 “I will stretch out My hand against Judah and against all who dwell in Jerusalem. I will cut off from this place every remnant of Baal, the names of the idolatrous and pagan priests—
Extenderé mi mano contra Judá y contra todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. Cortaré de este lugar el remanente de Baal, el nombre de los sacerdotes idólatras y paganos,
5 those who bow on the rooftops to worship the host of heaven, those who bow down and swear by the LORD but also swear by Milcom,
los que adoran al ejército del cielo en las azoteas, los que adoran y juran por Yahvé y también juran por Malcam,
6 and those who turn back from following the LORD, neither seeking the LORD nor inquiring of Him.”
los que se han apartado de seguir a Yahvé, y los que no han buscado a Yahvé ni han preguntado por él.
7 Be silent in the presence of the Lord GOD, for the Day of the LORD is near. Indeed, the LORD has prepared a sacrifice; He has consecrated His guests.
Guarda silencio ante la presencia del Señor Yahvé, porque el día de Yahvé está cerca. Porque Yahvé ha preparado un sacrificio. Ha consagrado a sus invitados.
8 “On the Day of the LORD’s sacrifice I will punish the princes, the sons of the king, and all who are dressed in foreign apparel.
El día del sacrificio de Yahvé castigaré a los príncipes, a los hijos del rey y a todos los que se visten con ropas extranjeras.
9 On that day I will punish all who leap over the threshold, who fill the house of their master with violence and deceit.
Ese día castigaré a todos los que saltan el umbral, que llenan la casa de su amo con violencia y engaño.
10 On that day,” declares the LORD, “a cry will go up from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second District, and a loud crashing from the hills.
En aquel día, dice el Señor, habrá ruido de gritos desde la puerta de los peces, un lamento desde el segundo barrio y un gran estruendo desde las colinas.
11 Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who weigh out silver will be cut off.
¡Llorad, habitantes de Majtés, porque todo el pueblo de Canaán está deshecho! Todos los que estaban cargados de plata han sido eliminados.
12 And at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish the men settled in complacency, who say to themselves, ‘The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.’
Sucederá en aquel tiempo que registraré a Jerusalén con lámparas, y castigaré a los hombres asentados en sus escorias, que dicen en su corazón: “Yahvé no hará el bien, ni hará el mal.”
13 Their wealth will be plundered and their houses laid waste. They will build houses but not inhabit them, and plant vineyards but never drink their wine.
Sus riquezas se convertirán en un despojo, y sus casas en una desolación. Sí, construirán casas, pero no las habrán habitado. Plantarán viñas, pero no beberán su vino.
14 The great Day of the LORD is near— near and coming quickly. Listen, the Day of the LORD! Then the cry of the mighty will be bitter.
El gran día de Yahvé está cerca. Está cerca y se apresura mucho, la voz del día de Yahvé. El poderoso llora allí amargamente.
15 That day will be a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
Ese día es un día de ira, un día de angustia y de aflicción, un día de problemas y de ruina, un día de oscuridad y de tinieblas, un día de nubes y de negrura,
16 a day of horn blast and battle cry against the fortified cities, and against the high corner towers.
un día de trompeta y de alarma contra las ciudades fortificadas y contra las altas almenas.
17 I will bring such distress on mankind that they will walk like the blind, because they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
Traeré tal angustia sobre los hombres que andarán como ciegos por haber pecado contra Yahvé. Su sangre será derramada como polvo y su carne como estiércol.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the Day of the LORD’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy.” For indeed, He will make a sudden end of all who dwell on the earth.
Ni su plata ni su oro podrán librarlos en el día de la ira de Yahvé, sino que toda la tierra será devorada por el fuego de su celo; porque él acabará, sí, terriblemente, con todos los que habitan la tierra.
