Psalms 89
1 A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the loving devotion of the LORD forever; with my mouth I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations.
Hymne de Ethan Esrahite. Je veux chanter à jamais les grâces de l'Éternel, et d'âge en âge de ma bouche publier Ta fidélité!
2 For I have said, “Loving devotion is built up forever; in the heavens You establish Your faithfulness.”
Car je me dis: La grâce est édifiée pour jamais, le ciel est la base que Tu donnes à ta fidélité.
3 You said, “I have made a covenant with My chosen one, I have sworn to David My servant:
« J'ai fait une alliance en faveur de mon élu, je l'ai juré à David, mon serviteur:
4 ‘I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.’”
J'affermirai ta race à jamais, et je fonderai ton trône pour tous les âges. (Pause)
5 The heavens praise Your wonders, O LORD— Your faithfulness as well— in the assembly of the holy ones.
« Et les Cieux, Éternel, célèbrent tes merveilles, et disent ta fidélité dans l'assemblée des Saints.
6 For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD?
Car, dans les lieux éthérés, qui s'égale à l'Éternel? qui ressemble à l'Éternel, parmi les Fils de Dieu,
7 In the council of the holy ones, God is greatly feared, and awesome above all who surround Him.
à ce Dieu, redouté dans la vaste société des Saints, et plus formidable que tous ceux qui L'entourent?
8 O LORD God of Hosts, who is like You? O mighty LORD, Your faithfulness surrounds You.
Éternel, Dieu des armées, qui est comme toi puissant, ô Dieu? Et ta fidélité t'environne.
9 You rule the raging sea; when its waves mount up, You still them.
Tu domines l'orgueil de la mer; quand ses flots se soulèvent, tu les apaises.
10 You crushed Rahab like a carcass; You scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm.
Tu as écrasé l'Egypte d'un coup mortel, et de ton bras puissant dissipé tes ennemis.
11 The heavens are Yours, and also the earth. The earth and its fullness You founded.
A toi sont les Cieux, et à toi la terre; c'est toi qui as fondé le monde et ce qu'il enserre.
12 North and south You created; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name.
Tu as créé l'Aquilon et le Midi; le Thabor et l'Hermon se réjouissent à ton nom.
13 Mighty is Your arm; strong is Your hand. Your right hand is exalted.
Tu as un bras armé de vigueur, ta main est forte, ta droite élevée.
14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; loving devotion and faithfulness go before You.
La justice et l'équité sont la base de ton trône, la grâce et la vérité marchent devant ta face.
15 Blessed are those who know the joyful sound, who walk, O LORD, in the light of Your presence.
Heureux le peuple qui connaît l'appel de la trompette! Éternel, il marche à la clarté de ta face;
16 They rejoice in Your name all day long, and in Your righteousness they exult.
à ton nom il se réjouit toujours, et il se glorifie de ta justice.
17 For You are the glory of their strength, and by Your favor our horn is exalted.
Car tu es sa glorieuse parure; et par ta faveur tu nous fais porter la tête levée.
18 Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Car c'est de l'Éternel que vient notre bouclier, et du Saint d'Israël que vient notre Roi.
19 You once spoke in a vision; to Your godly ones You said, “I have bestowed help on a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
Alors tu parlas en vision à ton bien-aimé, et tu dis: « J'ai prêté secours à un héros, et suscité un adolescent du milieu du peuple.
20 I have found My servant David; with My sacred oil I have anointed him.
J'ai trouvé David, mon serviteur, et je l'ai oint de mon huile sainte.
21 My hand will sustain him; surely My arm will strengthen him.
Ma main lui est assurée, et mon bras le soutiendra.
22 No enemy will exact tribute; no wicked man will oppress him.
L'ennemi ne le surprendra pas, et le méchant ne l'humiliera point.
23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.
Je déferai devant lui ses adversaires, et je battrai ses ennemis.
24 My faithfulness and loving devotion will be with him, and through My name his horn will be exalted.
Et ma fidélité et ma grâce seront avec lui, et à mon nom il lèvera la tête;
25 I will set his hand over the sea, and his right hand upon the rivers.
et je mettrai sa main sur la mer, et sa droite sur les fleuves.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock of my salvation.’
Il m'invoquera ainsi: « Tu es mon père, mon Dieu, et mon rocher sauveur! » –
27 I will indeed appoint him as My firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
Bien plus, je l'instituerai mon premier-né, le plus éminent des rois de la terre,
28 I will forever preserve My loving devotion for him, and My covenant with him will stand fast.
Je lui garderai ma grâce éternellement, et mon alliance pour lui sera perpétuelle.
29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.
Je rendrai sa race éternelle, et je donnerai à son trône la durée des Cieux.
30 If his sons forsake My law and do not walk in My judgments,
Si ses fils abandonnent ma loi, et ne se dirigent pas selon mes jugements,
31 if they violate My statutes and fail to keep My commandments,
s'ils violent mes commandements, et n'observent pas mes préceptes;
32 I will attend to their transgression with the rod, and to their iniquity with stripes.
Je punirai de la verge leur désobéissance, et de fléaux, leur crime;
33 But I will not withdraw My loving devotion from him, nor ever betray My faithfulness.
mais je ne lui retirerai point ma faveur, et ne démentirai point ma fidélité;
34 I will not violate My covenant or alter the utterance of My lips.
je ne violerai point mon alliance, et ne changerai point la parole émise par mes lèvres.
35 Once and for all I have sworn by My holiness— I will not lie to David—
Je l'ai juré une fois par ma sainteté: Jamais envers David je ne serai menteur!
36 his offspring shall endure forever, and his throne before Me like the sun,
sa race subsistera éternellement, et son trône, comme le soleil, subsistera devant moi;
37 like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky.”
comme la lune, pour jamais il est consolidé; et le témoin qui est dans la nue, est véridique. »
38 Now, however, You have spurned and rejected him; You are enraged by Your anointed one.
Et Tu nous as rejetés, nous as répudiés, tu t'es irrité contre ton Oint;
39 You have renounced the covenant with Your servant and sullied his crown in the dust.
tu as méprisé l'alliance faite avec ton serviteur; tu as souillé, fait tomber son diadème en terre;
40 You have broken down all his walls; You have reduced his strongholds to rubble.
tu as abattu toutes ses murailles, mis ses boulevards en ruines.
41 All who pass by plunder him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors.
Tous les passants le pillent, il est l'opprobre de ses voisins.
42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; You have made all his enemies rejoice.
Tu as exalté la droite de ses oppresseurs, réjoui tous ses ennemis;
43 You have bent the edge of his sword and have not sustained him in battle.
et tu as fait céder le tranchant de son glaive, et tu ne l'as pas soutenu dans le combat.
44 You have ended his splendor and cast his throne to the ground.
Tu as réduit sa splendeur, et précipité son trône sur la terre;
45 You have cut short the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame.
tu as abrégé les jours de sa jeunesse, tu l'as couvert d'ignominie. (Pause)
46 How long, O LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath keep burning like fire?
Éternel, jusques à quand te cacheras-tu toujours, et ton courroux sera-t-il enflammé comme un feu?
47 Remember the briefness of my lifespan! For what futility You have created all men!
Pense à moi! qu'est-ce que la vie? Pour quel néant tu as créé les enfants des humains!
48 What man can live and never see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? (Sheol h7585)
Quel homme vit, et ne voit pas la mort? dégage son âme de la main des Enfers? (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
49 Where, O Lord, is Your loving devotion of old, which You faithfully swore to David?
Où sont tes grâces premières, Seigneur, qu'en ta fidélité tu promis par serment à David?
50 Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, which I bear in my heart from so many people—
Souviens-toi, Seigneur, de l'opprobre de tes serviteurs; songe que je porte en mon cœur tous ces peuples nombreux,
51 how Your enemies have taunted, O LORD, and have mocked every step of Your anointed one!
que tes ennemis insultent, Éternel, insultent aux pas de ton Oint!
52 Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and amen.
Béni soit l'Éternel a jamais! Ainsi soit-il! Oui! Ainsi soit-il!
